Serbia should not contribute.
These are awkward times and peoples (governments) concerns can be understood, however, Serbia should ponder the real reason for the invitation.
I recognise Serbians leaning towards Russia, but I believe it's one way.
Russia to Serbia is like the US to the UK and EU, when it suits and predominantly one way.
Old Europe is tolerated by these two countries.
Having said that, the decision by Western leaders to boycott the 70th anniversary is also a mistake IMO. The crisis in the Ukraine should not be used as an excuse, the US as been poking the bear with a stick ever since the Wall came down, Russia as said on many occasions that it will not tolerate NATO expansion to its borders. The arrogance of the west is deplorable.
The EU should be looking to build long term healthy relationship with Russia, this can be beneficial to both instead of sucking up to the US and sacrificing our independence thru the TTIP.
I end by repeating Serbia should decline the invitation to avoid embarrassing herself.

Does not that sound as offensive for Ukraine too?
How many Ukrainians have fought and died in the II-war for Union Soviet?
Of course man..... Was just Russians NO ONE ELSE...
How many Cro, Slo, Bosn, M.Negr, or Mak fought for YUGOSLAVIA in the II-war????

Meanwhile, 99.99% of Serb fighters in WWII belonged to the Chetniks or Partizan resistance.

Russia, no the Soviet Union, suffered casualties only after Hitler attacked them. Before that, they went to bed with the Nazis because they had the same sick mind. The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact is easily forgotten and not mentioned. What was in it rote?

There is a great passage in Solzhenitsyn's Gulag Archipelago that describes the love of Stalin for Hitler and the sense of betrayal he was feeling when Hitler attacked the Soviet Union. One of the best pieces of literature in the whole world. It should be an obbligatory reading for all children in Russia. In the end, Russia had to do war because Hitler left it no choice. In this sense, the Russian war victims and heroes were forced to be war victims and heroes by that first act of aggression.

The Americans on the other hand had a choice. There was no war in their country, and they chose to send troops to die for other countries and free them from both the Nazis and the future danger of being occupied by their brethren, Stalin and his friends. That is even greater heroism.

Regarding the article, I hope Nikolic goes to the parade, it will be a chance for Putin to remind him the gas money Serbia has not payed to Russia yet and tell him: "WE DON'T WANT POLISH APPLES IN RUSSIA!!".

Ustasa were also installed by the Germans/Italians.
(Danilo)

Belgrade was bombed 74 years ago yesterday by Germany for resisting Hitler's pacts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Retribution_(1941) Croatia wasn't bombed, it was allowed to build a Greater Croatia aka "Independent State" (puppet state) that slaughtered 750, 000 Serbs, Jews & Roma in just one concentration camp (there were several).

Serbia was carved up by the Nazis while everyone else in YU saw territorial expansion. Meanwhile the Nazi German army directly occupied the part of "Serbia" that was left after the carving where they committed huge atrocities http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kragujevac_massacre, but managed to subdue a couple of guys who saw an opportunity for themselves to act as puppets of the German occupation.

Danilo, if there is any proof in the world that there are a handful of Serbs who are greedy and hate the nation they came from, it's you. You would have been Nedic. Meanwhile, 99.99% of Serb fighters in WWII belonged to the Chetniks or Partizan resistance.

Geeze... one sure ends up stirring a lot of muck from just stating facts.

Ustasa were also installed by the Germans/Italians. I get it that it's easier to see things is black/white good/bad guys, but the fact is there were elements in many "anti nazi" nations that were pro-Nazi as well as vice-versa. Even the UK had it's share of Nazi sympathizers (including King George VI).

If stating facts makes me some sort of scum-bag in some people's eyes, then so be it, but it sure is strange from my perspective.

Balkans look like a casino where all the stakes are already made and nothing can be changed. But it’s not true and new bets can be made soon enough. Most neighbors of Serbia has sold their souls to the Evil and now they are worried about their own future. Their expectations to kill any dignity and will to resist are threatened by the hope that Russia grants to Serbia. This is why they all worry about any move of the two brotherly nations towards one another.

In fact the Yankees see no difference between the Serbs and their already conquered neighbors. All are waste materials for their world gendarme doctrines. The other day I enjoyed speech of Mr. Friedman from Stratford shadow CIA. He openly said that they cannot afford sending troops to every place of the world. So they have nothing to do but to initiate conflicts between peoples so that they waste their forces against each other but not against the USA.

From this point of view all peoples of the Balkans are potential allies. Their main enemy is the USA but not Russia and Serbia. They unite against the Serbs because they know that none of them can withstand an open face-to-face war. Since the 1-st Balkan war big powers not only used the contradictions on the Balkans but they always added fuel to the flame. Albanians or Croats cannot be happy until the Serbs are happy. So any confrontation they join is aimed against themselves. And Russia’s aim is not to help Serbs regain their power but to bring just and peace here.

After bombardment, it was directly militarily occupied by Germany and it's territory was given off to Albanians and Croats (sounds kinda familiar doesn't it?). Nedic had no following, he wasn't supported by anyone in Serbia, he was just a quisling who agreed to be the middle man between Germany's occupation.
(Ari Gold, 6 April 2015 16:27)

Right again, as I said... it was an occupation. In your sick self-hating Serbophobic mind, being directly militarily occupied is the equivilence of collaborating. Because an individual like Milan Nedic or Dimitrije Ljojic saw an opportunity to become puppets of this occupation has nothing to do with the Serbian nation as a whole.

Serbia's response to bombardment and occupation was forming two resistance groups to defeat Nazism. Save your hatred for your meetings with Natasa Kandic.

Serbs did not form an SS Nazi division or join any Nazi unit during the war. Fact.

Serbs were considered so anti-Nazi that the Germans executed 100 Serbs for every German Nazi soldier killed and 50 Serbs executed for every German Nazi wounded. Fact.

No where in Europe, except in Russia, did men, women and children fight so fiecely and relentlessly against the Nazis.

Croat Nazi sympathisers like you are desperate to create some sort of equivalence between the peoples of the former Yugoslavia. You want to present the Serbs, Croats, Bosnian Moslems, and Albanians as being equally good and bad during the Second World War. But that is False. Serbs were heroes and victims and you Croats vwere icious Nazis. Fact.

"Many representatives of western countries will not attend the military parade because of the war in Ukraine and the cooling of relations, as they, under pressure from the U.S., decided to refuse the invitation from Moscow."

No, B92, bad reporting, they refused to attend the parade not because 'of the war in Ukraine', but because Russian soldiers (officially on 'holidays') invaded a neighboring country, and even more, Russia annexed a part of Ukraine territory (Crimea). And another no, western countries can decide on their own if they accept the invitation of a regime that supports those actions.

P.S: Instead of a military parade, most western officials decided to lay down wreaths to honor the millions of soldiers that were killed fighting against the Nazi regime.

It would be an insult to the Russians to refuse. the Serbian govt has shown that it is sensitive to the feelings of other nations, even the Croats. So when the Croats expressed outrage at the burning of the Croat flag, the Serbian govt condemned Seselj for this action. If the Serbs reject this generous Russian offer, then their actions will be seen for what they are, a slap in the face to Russia and the Russia people. There will be consequence for such an insult.

Why take part in a parade that basically rewards Russian aggression? In this case rewarding Russian aggression against Ukraine, this aggression is basically starting off as the same type of aggression the NAZI's inflicted against country's 75 years ago! Putins regime of today is no better then Hitlers regime of the 1940s, imagine the many European country's that would be under attack by the dictator Putin & his regime had the west been weak!

This is what I was writing here 10 days ago and there’s nothing to “weigh” for the Serbian side. Not only it’s a unique historical chance but any negative respond will unmask them again. These new American patriots in the Serbian government always find themselves in difficult situations when moments of true come. With Dacic at the helm OSCE and Benderast’s son M.Bochurkiv as head of the mission in Ukraine OSCE remains a side in the conflict and same is Vucic now. It increased my personal sympathy for Tadic who openly sides NATO. Anyway in 1945 Serbs more than anybody else deserved to storm Berlin together with the Poles and now we have a chance to improve the things. If the government finds a pretext not to send troops to Moscow they will mud themselves forever and the Yankees will have to find another “patriotic” Serbs to bring to power. Rotation is a way of imitation. Many armies dreamed to march at the Beautiful Square called abroad as the Red Square and the Serbs will feel at home here.

Fact.

Woow, that's a very precise calculation. Can you please show the math behind the 99.9%?

After bombardment, it was directly militarily occupied by Germany and it's territory was given off to Albanians and Croats (sounds kinda familiar doesn't it?). Nedic had no following, he wasn't supported by anyone in Serbia, he was just a quisling who agreed to be the middle man between Germany's occupation.
(Ari Gold, 6 April 2015 16:27)

That's a correct description of what happened more or less in Serbia, Albania, France and many other countries in Europe occupied Germany or Italy. So what's your point?
