Thing is, Putin doesn't care. He's never pressured Serbia in any way. Don't put sanctions on Russia and don't join NATO is the only thing Russia has ever asked from Serbia, which are like no brainers to any sane person. It's the EU that is obsessively trying to rule Serbia with an iron fist. Russia has been fair, it's never told Serbia what to do. Serbia has a healthy relationship with Russia, whereas the EU subjugates Serbia.

Russian aggression of her neighbors goes unstopped.

It is not the same think with Kosovo....
Kosovo was part of ex. Jugoslavia like Kroatia, Bosnia, M.Negro, etc, never was part of Serbia ( if you WANT... to refer to the true history ),

Actually Questioner the west actually did keep with the tradition of democracy and self determination.

Since any governement in the world MUST be legitimised by the local population it seeks to govern and impose its rules and laws.

When a governemnt ties to impose its rule by force, and foresake the welfare of the people (see Massacres, genocide, wars againt the local populations etc) , and when the people no longer recognise as legitimate said force, then the norms of internaitonal law dont apply to the governement, they actully now apply to the people. The right for Kosovo has been epheld by internaitonal court cases (bruought by Serbia itself) and by a Majority of the UN.

Unlike Kosovo, Ukraine had a treaty guranteed by Russia, broken by Russia, where violence has been emploeyed by Russia and fueled by Russia and guided by Russia.

Russia has , at every instance broken all norms of international law.

So yes the two instances are VERY differant.
