Isolating Russia serves nobody's interests, apart that is from the United States which is pathalogically Russophobe. Washington is still trapped in the cold war as far as Russia is concerned. Undoudtedly Russian domestic politics is mired in authoritarianism and corruption. But sanctions and isolation will not solve anything. Serbia was destroyed by crippling sanctions in the 1990's, and all that did was bring misery to ordinary people and cement the Milosevic regime in power. Europe needs to bring Russia in from the cold and work together to solve the Ukraine crisis.

Russia does not give a flying toss about these sanctions, not one iota. As far as Moscow is concerned they can keep them for the next hundred years because they are hurting EU members not Russia.
Lavrov said “We were not the ones imposing sanctions. We did not trigger the spiral of sanctions that is widening. Some colleagues (EU colleagues) have been hinting, 'let's agree on the criteria, you fulfill that criteria, and then we will lift the sanctions'. We will not discuss anything. These are absolutely illegitimate measures,"
