Deadline for Smederevo steel mill expires

The Ukraine is one of the world's biggest steel producers and production may stop completely. The steel mills, the coal mines and the iron ore are located in the Russian South and East of Ukraine. Production has been severely hit by the war, coal mines have been destroyed and many skilled workers have been killed, mobilised or have fled the country. Those European companies who have previously bought Ukrainian steel are now looking for alternative suppliers. It is for this reason that many bidders are expected for the strategically located Smederevo steel mill.
