Paris is stuck with something they cannot sell plus a billion Euros for the cost of building those ships.
(sj, 8 January 2015 12:33)

Why they cannot sell?! They have not thrown the ship away lol France can do whatever it wants with the ship. I understand that people who think that God Vlad the Great is omnipotent are aghast to hear that, but they will learn :)

Hollande , you’re full of it. You are screaming because it’s hurting you not because it may hurt Russia.
Anyone who thinks that Hollande is “thinking of Russia” is deluding themselves. It’s simply that the Russian sanctions are hurting both France and the Nazis. Hollande’s problem is the ships that Russia ordered have not been delivered and France is running out of “wriggle room in the contract” where they can no longer hold out and if they do not deliver Russia can demand its deposit back while Paris is stuck with something they cannot sell plus a billion Euros for the cost of building those ships.

Jimbo,

when you say "Macedonia" you mean the country of FYROM, i.e., Southern Serbia, right? If yes, then you are wrong thinking that your example regarding the name "Macedonia" can contradict what Elena says about Kosovo-Metohija and Serbia's position towards the EU. To make you see this, I have a better example for you. In Southern Albania (Epirus) there are Greek minorities that have been living there since..well, since before the Balkan wars. The only contradiction you can find in Greece's position regarding Kosovo is that if Greece recognizes Kosovo, it will automatically create a status quo for future independence of those Greeks in Epirus. And yet Greeks refuse to recognize Kosovo. That's the real contradiction in Greece's position, not the name Macedonia. You Albanians go to Greek blogs begging/asking/threatening Greeks to recognize Kosovo. You are stupid enough to neglect that if that ever happens, your time in Epirus will be over. But don't worry too much, Greeks will never betray Serbs and Serbs will never betray Greeks. Historical bonds die hard in these countries. As for the EU...the sinking ship is all yours!

Merry Christmas to you.

@ Watcher

Dobro jutro! I've never been to Detroit, but I spent 1 year in the US (Midwest) as part of my studies and I think people from Midwest are exceptionally kind (not kinder than our beloved Serbs, though).

Disagreement can be handled diplomatically as long as a nation forces its government to. I don't think many politicians are willing to do what's morally right and those who avoid to have a war, do so only because they cannot safely predict the outcome. Not that every politician is like that, Olof Palme for instance was a well known pacifist, but it was the Swedish nation in the 70s that opened the gate to such political culture. The only problem is that people don't realize that at the end of the day it's them who have the power. This is why hyper-nationalism exists, it makes people feel primitively "powerful".

As for the States, multiculturalism is what gave birth to the country in the first place. Europe has different history and demographics. And on top of that, no one can be the imperialist of the 18th century anymore, the territorial game is played through the population/minorities game, like in Kosovo. Moreover many EU countries had to accept (legal) non-EU immigrants only because the EU required them to. Apart from that, the wars in Middle East triggered a huge wave of illegal immigrants in the EU. All these together with the austerity measures triggered a rise in the far right in many EU countries.

Yes, I am an American-born with Serbian parents in the greater metro Detroit area! I was blessed with parents who saw thru nationalities and color of skin. Again, I have been blessed with friends from all backgrounds and nationalities. Those I can reasonabally debate without letting emotions override reason, those people I love to talk to.
Elena, I don't disagree with you, but disagreements should be handled in a diplomatic and reasonable way. You are absolutley correct, sometimes that cannot be acheived and thus, the problems of today. I don't have the answer and as far as i can see on this board, no one does! The one thing I DO know, our Lord said "Thus far and no further". So there is a time for everything and an end to everything. My faith is in God, not our governments!

Thanks for the feedback.
However, I ABSOLUTLEY believe what I wrote about corporations making the rules, also governments. Who do you think these "lobbyists" are? They offer millions of dollars to promote their "product"! What about weapon manufactors? BILLIONS of dollars to create "markets" for their product? WHY would they need peace? Peace would be no good for business! Offering money to get what you need or want is what "cililized" countries call Bribing. Not in OUR US government! I ask you WHY NOT?
icj1, my friend...me & you are just "cannon fodder". Me & you are what the rich & ruling class call "collateral damage". They make their money and keep their power by "me & you" fighting...they don't want or need me & you friends. You are not a Serb who lives abroad, are you?

Yes, perfectly said, "no peace and no nuclear war...just good old killing the old way!" And I further agree, Putin is not an angel, no politician is an angel. But as for the people...it depends. A nation is not convinced over a night to wake up the next morning and start killing another nation just like that. Patriotism is one thing, blind nationalism is another. To make a nation, especially a well educated nation, to move from patriotism to unjustified nationalism it requires time. A nation has all the time it needs to realize where the situation is heading and make it stop. So when it comes to people, it depends on whether they are actually people or sheeple. But if one of the two nations involved is drawn to nationalism, the other one will eventually follow without necessarily being brainless. When you are attacked, you have to defend what's yours. And no matter what the outcome is, you have a good reason to keep negative feelings for the other nation for quite some time.

(china-serbia friends for life, 5 January 2015 17:34)

You are right in that the EU is falling, but I'm not sure if Greece or any other country is leaving the euro-zone (not the EU) this year. Not that we wouldn't like to, I think adopting euro was a big mistake. But getting a divorce costs more than getting married in the euro-zone. Otherwise even Belgians would have left already. But what Greece and other countries will do should have no impact on Serbia's decision. Serbia should not join the EU, especially since the EU expects Serbia to give away its own territory. Some things are not for sale and it's time the EU realizes that. Apart from that, the euro-Asian market is on rise and Russia and China are the leading countries on that market. So it's not like "EU or nothing", Serbia can join the BRICS, find investors and financial support and most importantly diplomatic allies.

I understand the West's position here.

What would you have them do? Start shooting? Send troops in and start another war? Would it be OK if YOUR son or daughter die in that war? Is it OK to spend another trillion dollars of taxpayer monies for a small, obscure piece of turf? And what if Putin decides to start shooting missles at us or anybody?
Would all out Nuclear war be enough to satisfy you?
Remember - Putin is saying Georgia & Ukraine are made possible by the nation building actions of the West. Does it make it right? Absolutley not, but how do you stop him? THAT is my question! Do you tell him we have a God given authority to do what we do and you don't?

Ehm? To the negotiating table? Where Russia can negotiate about how many million square meter of Ukrainian territory it will annex, with how many millions of $$ it will support ethnic separatists and how many 1000s of Russian soldiers are allowed to spend their 'holidays' (with Russian military equipment) in eastern Ukraine?

No, the goal of the sanction were to stop Russia from doing these things.

But if one of the two nations involved is drawn to nationalism, the other one will eventually follow without necessarily being brainless. When you are attacked, you have to defend what's yours. And no matter what the outcome is, you have a good reason to keep negative feelings for the other nation for quite some time.

Hvala vam i takodje:)

All the best, my Greek friend:)

@icj1
The LAST thing people in power want is for people to know that they can get along better without them than with them, because knowledge will always govern over ignorance..ALWAYS!
As far as the Bible/Quran, with all due respect, not a debatable issue. You trust your guns & bombs, I'll trust my faith & hope.
Again, thanks for replying.

Elena you are right Serbia should not join the EU because EU is asking Sebia to give up their own land Kosovo and the same for Macedonia should not join the EU because EU is asking Macedonia to change their name. (Jim, 6 January 2015 19:54)

I believe that EU is no longer attractive but concerning Macedonia I have to remind you that the EU stance is based on the Greece position while Elena is a Greek …
