Serbia is never going to join the EU. It can support its own amputation or not, membership will never materalize. Not only for Serbia, but also for the rest of the region. Second of all, the EU is not really in Serbia's economic interests. Ask Bulgaria and Romania how many real benefits there have been for their people since EU membership. The primary benefit is they get to leave their country to go serve tables in northern Europe as richer countries in the EU have to deal with mass immigration.

Dealing with corruption and making Serbia economically competitive is a lot more important than some stupid EU membership which will never actually happen in a million years anyway.

What fight did serbia put against Kosova's independence? As ARI said it many times, serbia actually helped Kosova to get there. Clearly not because Serbian government is nice and tomerant, but because they want to become a part of EU. I am sorry my friend, but this is only your personal opinion, or at its best, it is the opinion of a minor part of the Serbian population. The fact is that 70% of the Serbian parents, consider Europe as the future for their children. Can Serbia be better off, outside EU??? I don't think so. Looking at the past 20 years (the period of time when Serbian/Yugoslavian politicians decided to do on their own and against Europe and the west) things have not improved for Serbia did they?. Your average income (salary) decreased to 350 Eur/month by November 2014. As an Albanian parent, I would,like the same for my children. And at the same time, I remember the 80's when our leaders told us that Albania dose not need anybody and it will be "the sole lighting lantern of Europe".

On the other hand I have already asked one of my Romanian friend about the benefits of joining EU and I will give you her personal example. She was graduated as a medical doctor in Romania and working in hospital in Frankfurt Germany. Well dear Peggy, let me tell you a little bit about my family history. Both my grandpartents fought the Nazi's, and refused to join the Nazi party, even it was oblatory back than. They fought the Nazi's wherever they could, but also had to make sure that their falilies were protected. As a result they both lost their good paying jobs, and were forced to work in jobs way below their qualifications. During the war they were drafted against their will, and that is the last my grandparents and partents saw of them. A few weeks later they were both informed that they had died, no reason given, and their graves were never found, just like the Kosovars that were killed by fascist serbs and whos remains were never found. We think they were killed by the Nazis. My dad was a young teenager at the end of the war, living with the trauma that his dad was killed most likley by the Nazis, and he was drafted a few weeks before the war was over, and thank god he survived the Nazi terror.

For the 100th time this was never ever offered during any of the talks between Serbia and Kosovo. I challenge you to find one thing from the time to show that this was ever a legitimate offer on the table before the talks. Other than personal blogs which seems to be the choice proof on this site.
Also an explanation of what that means from anyone would be nice. The Taiwan situation is not an example. It is basically what Kosovo and Serbia has today where both deny the others authority with the exception that there are 108 countries that recognize Kosovo.
Also explain how the Albanians might regret not accepting such an offer. How could be subserveant to the Serbs ever be better than being under their own control. The only thing they do not have right now is UN/EU membership and they would not have than under Serbia.
But I would fully support a federation system where Serbia and Kosovo have equal status and would have to be in agreement with any laws and international treaties or agreements. With possibly a rotating chair in the UN.

Well, we all are very informed with the results of "stopping recognitions" campaigns in the past. It`s goal is to "minimize the losses".

The serbian and albanian politicians know very well that politically Kosovo case is solved. It"s finished. But economically Kosovo is still "under Serbia". Serbia is the main trade partner of Kosovo.

Economy, this is the battlefield now. But this is "a silent battle". It`s kept away from the public eyes (and ears) because it`s a "dirty war".

Suffer from memory loss long now. If you remember events Serbia held all the cards and Milosevics answer was to rid Kosovo of Albanians first by trying to force them out with starvation,intimidation and oppression by closing all the factories, throwing them out of all state jobs, then closing the schools, hospitals etc. When that did not work and they started to try and defend themselves he used force. It took the big powers to bring that to an end. Serbia only came to the table because the big powers forced them to, and they refused any negotiation. It was after total fruitless negotiations without interference with only a moderator that it was determined talks were hopeless. Because Serbia had NOTHING to lose. UNSC 1244 had stripped Kosovo from Serbia in every way except name, and forcing the Albanians into living in turmoil was the best option Serbs could come up with, as they thought talks would just last forever.
It wasn't until the talks ended and they found out Kosovo was going to unilaterally declare independence and it would be supported by most if not all of the west that the Serbs came up with the slogan of "more than autonmy less than independence" An idea never offered at the tables. Things might be different if they had!

Serbia is never going to join the EU. It can support its own amputation or not, membership will never materalize. Not only for Serbia, but also for the rest of the region. Second of all, the EU is not really in Serbia's economic interests. Ask Bulgaria and Romania how many real benefits there have been for their people since EU membership. The primary benefit is they get to leave their country to go serve tables in northern Europe as richer countries in the EU have to deal with mass immigration.

Dealing with corruption and making Serbia economically competitive is a lot more important than some stupid EU membership which will never actually happen in a million years anyway.

Well dear Peggy, let me tell you a little bit about my family history. Both my grandpartents fought the Nazi's, and refused to join the Nazi party, even it was oblatory back than. They fought the Nazi's wherever they could, but also had to make sure that their falilies were protected. As a result they both lost their good paying jobs, and were forced to work in jobs way below their qualifications. During the war they were drafted against their will, and that is the last my grandparents and partents saw of them. A few weeks later they were both informed that they had died, no reason given, and their graves were never found, just like the Kosovars that were killed by fascist serbs and whos remains were never found. We think they were killed by the Nazis. My dad was a young teenager at the end of the war, living with the trauma that his dad was killed most likley by the Nazis, and he was drafted a few weeks before the war was over, and thank god he survived the Nazi terror.

I am Albanian from Kosovo and so proud to be one. I love my country, Republic of Kosova that is. I AM MORE THAN SICK of these stories and the problems that our societies still have in the 21st century for the GOD's sake. For the 100th time this was never ever offered during any of the talks between Serbia and Kosovo. I challenge you to find one thing from the time to show that this was ever a legitimate offer on the table before the talks. Other than personal blogs which seems to be the choice proof on this site.
Also an explanation of what that means from anyone would be nice. The Taiwan situation is not an example. It is basically what Kosovo and Serbia has today where both deny the others authority with the exception that there are 108 countries that recognize Kosovo.
Also explain how the Albanians might regret not accepting such an offer. How could be subserveant to the Serbs ever be better than being under their own control. The only thing they do not have right now is UN/EU membership and they would not have than under Serbia.
But I would fully support a federation system where Serbia and Kosovo have equal status and would have to be in agreement with any laws and international treaties or agreements. With possibly a rotating chair in the UN.

UNSC 1244 had stripped Kosovo from Serbia in every way except name, and forcing the Albanians into living in turmoil was the best option Serbs could come up with, as they thought talks would just last forever.
It wasn't until the talks ended and they found out Kosovo was going to unilaterally declare independence and it would be supported by most if not all of the west that the Serbs came up with the slogan of "more than autonmy less than independence" An idea never offered at the tables. Things might be different if they had!

I am sorry my friend, but this is only your personal opinion, or at its best, it is the opinion of a minor part of the Serbian population. The fact is that 70% of the Serbian parents, consider Europe as the future for their children. Can Serbia be better off, outside EU??? I don't think so. Your average income (salary) decreased to 350 Eur/month by November 2014. As an Albanian parent, I would,like the same for my children. On the other hand I have already asked one of my Romanian friend about the benefits of joining EU and I will give you her personal example. She was graduated as a medical doctor in Romania and working in hospital in Frankfurt Germany. Only last year she bought an apartment for 400,000 Eur for herself (something that she can never do in Romania).

Serbia is never going to join the EU. It can support its own amputation or not, membership will never materalize. Not only for Serbia, but also for the rest of the region. Second of all, the EU is not really in Serbia's economic interests. Ask Bulgaria and Romania how many real benefits there have been for their people since EU membership. The primary benefit is they get to leave their country to go serve tables in northern Europe as richer countries in the EU have to deal with mass immigration.

Why was that swept under the rug? Nikolle, I am a Professor at the University of Amsterdam myself, I 'm Greek, every semester my students are from 65 countries on average because the Programs I teach in are all in English and I guarantee that the only thing Europeans know about Serbia is that Serbia has been on the right page in the history in both world wars. And the only thing they know about Albanians (trough the European Press) is that Albania is the biggest producer of criminals in Europe.

I am telling you this without a shred of irony: Dont be isolated, travel a bit and spend some time abroad just to see how the world spins. Too much tee vee and internet can give you the wrong impression about the world.

Daniel, Germany was ruled by the SS until late 60s. What Willi says about his fam fighting the Nazis is full of crap, Germans supported the SS in their governments for 20 years after WW-II. Assuming you are Serb, make sure your politicians don't convince you to join the EU. As for Albanians...they are considered the worst criminals in Europe.
