Really? How come that Dacic, Vucic and Nikolic all at least thousand times have said that Serbia will NEVER recognize Kosovo independent and that Kosovo is still a part of the constitution then?

Russia has 400 billion in foreign reserves and twice that in gold reserves meanwhile western countries have nothing and they are doing well. You need to finish your primary school then you might know something.
(sj, 24 December 2014 20:33)

Mate, I understand that building a new virtual reality like you have been doing for years is a great exercise, but stating flat out lies that Russia has 800 billion in gold reserves does not even fit into that virtual reality of yours and is sign of desperation :)

According to Russia itself, Russia has about 38 million ounces of gold reserves. With the gold price at about $ 1200/ounce, it means Russia's gold reserves are about $46 billion... that's a bit too far away from the 800 billion!!!

In addition, US alone has 7x more gold reserves than Russia, whereas Germany, Italy and France have 3x, 2x, and 2x more gold than Russia, respectively. I know, it would be great if these evil countries had nothing, and I can totally see why the most patriotic of Serbs would love to live in your virtual reality where such a thing has been made a... "reality" lol

Hahahaha... sj, you are a true Luddite! Don't you know that Apple Computer, alone, is valued at 657 billion dollars, far more than the 400 billion Russia has in reserves. Just imagine, one American company worth over 50% more than all of Russia's foreign reserves. Try to wrap your head around that one!
As for the ruble, it has dropped more than 50% against the dollar, all in the last year and it hasn't brought down any foreign currency other than the Serbian dinar. So, try as you might, you're unable to distort the truth concerning the weakness of Russia. Have a Merry Christmas, although it won't be possible for many in Serbia this year.

Daniel- the Serb voters only vote for people to go to parliament who support eu not reintegrating Kosovo. That's why referendum endorsing Kosovo independence for eu membership would pass. Radicals and dss and all nationalists eliminated from parliament. Serbia signed Brussels agreement saying Kosovo can be in eu As a sovereign nation! That government is still in power because Serbs recognize Kosovo independence. When an election occurs where any policitian who says Serbia will reestablish control over Kosovo and recall dejan pavicevic who is Serbia ambassdor to Kosovo you will be right.

My little Albanian posing as a Serb Russia is a creditor country unlike the US which now owes 19 trillion and by this time next year it will be 20 trillion. Not really. I knew that would happen from the beginning. You have strong international lobbying. Not because anyone likes you, but because they must clean themselves off from all the mess in the Balkans, by legitimizing your occupation. In fact, it was Hashish Thaci himself who promised 150 recognitions within the first year. Here we are almost 7 years later and that still has not been achieved. What I am more worried about is the corruption on behalf of the Serbian government which would be willing to sell sovereignty for EU membership that is never going to materialize, and even if it would, would not bring Serbia any benefit whatsoever.

Instead of worrying about how much "recognitions" you have, perhaps you should concern yourself with the fact that Kosovo-Metohija, despite so much aid during communist days, despite billions from the West, is still the most impoverished territory in Europe. As long as that remains the case, you are not INdependent, but very much dependent. Dependent on the West for hand-me-down donations and dependent on your state of Serbia for her concessions.

Over 99% of voters voted in favor of independence, with a turnout of 87% The referendum was boycotted by Serbs living in the region, who comprised around 10% of the population.

I understand the historical significance of Kosovo to Serbia but modern realities unfortunately have made the situation similar to Greece and Constantinople/Istanbul. Total nonsense, since Russia is an economic basket case, bordering on collapse. Japan has finally done the smart thing by using Q.E. as did the U.S. during the banking crisis in 2008. Notice how well the US Economy and Stockmarket have done since then. Now, low and behold, the Japanese Stockmarket is responding in kind, where as the Russian Rouble as well as Russia's economy have tanked with no sign of recovering unless Putin is removed from office. As you can see, it's a Catch 22 for Russia.

Don't worry about the EU, Draghi will employ Q.E. if necessary. Its economy can be turned around, unlike Russia's.

Your country Germany is increasingly opposing the Islamicization of your society with thousands of people rioting in the streets. In the south, Greeks and Italians are rioting every day against austerity measures. Hell even Brussels itself was brought to a standstill over this very thing.
Ari Gold Dec, 24th

There is no rioting against the fear of islamisation anywhere here in Germany. What is happening are demonstrations by right wing groups, and that happens in the former commuist east, mainly in Dresden. Germany is a multionational society and that will not change. What is not mentioned in articles published outside of Germany is, that there is a huge public consensus that these people are wrong, and public demonstrations against those dumb right wing crap are taking place all over. In Munic 25,000 people alone demonstrated against them, and also in most other major German cities. The protesters against this movement by far outnumber those misleaded right idiots.
The strange thing is, that there are not really very many 'foreigners' (I do not like that word, because it implies something strange, and whoever lives here is welcome) living in the former east, and it just shows that the old communist thinking, which is still found there, in a lot of ways is very comparable to right wing thinking. Rest assured, these people have no future here, and do not have a big backing in society.

If Kosovo is such a big deal then why give it up.
Nikolic may say what he likes about Serbia never recognising an independent Kosovo but 'de facto' Serbia already has done so by choosing the path of joining the EU.
The EU does not want a candidate with 'issues'. Serbia knows this all to well.
The point is that no president or prime minister has the political will to disclose to the public that Kosovo is already a lost case.
No politician today or tomorrow will risk his carreer to lay the facts on the table. Nikolic is simply passing the 'buck' to the next elected president and this will go on until there is someone with the balls to give the Serbian public a choice.
The choice is simple; EU or Kosovo but Serbia can't have its cake and eat it.
The only way to hang on to Kosovo is an other bloody and pointless war, and as always with no winners.

I am a non-Serb American who follows Serbian news on B-92. I am also an Orthodox Christian. My question is why would Serbia want hostile (and potential subversive) Albanians back in their borders? I understand the historical significance of Kosovo to Serbia but modern realities unfortunately have made the situation similar to Greece and Constantinople/Istanbul. My idea, for what is worth, would be for Kosovo/Metohija to be joined to Serbia, Serbs and Albanians who want to relocate from Kosovo to Serbia and vice versa be compensated, and that all Serbian churches and monasteries and select historical structures in 'Kosovo' be given special status and placed under the protective jurisdiction (with troops to guard them) of the UN.

As one of the VERY FEW reasonable albanians, i truly feel sorry for Serbs!
Everyday i see how they are abused and killed in Kosovo and this makes me feel ashamed of my own people!
We albanians have now become the biggest criminals in the region and have created enemies with all our neighbours, Serbs, Montenegrins, Greeks and Macedonians!
We albanians have become monsters! I dont know why, but we are cruel and savage people with no history, culture or respect!
It appears we still haven't evolved from the trees, and it seems truly impossible to negotiate or reason with us.
Thanks to EU/US blackmail, the Serbs have been placed over a barrel.
However the Serbs should be very cautious when negotiating with venomous snakes! Good luck and all the best from Pristina

"What's his play? I'm not trying to be sarcastic. I'm just trying to understand public opinion on the matter."
(cry me a river, 24 December 2014 16:52)

That's easy and obvious. With his words, Nicolic, as a nationalist, tries to create an anti-EU atmosphere by connecting EU with Kosovo recognition, to please nationalists - no matter if it's true or not.

all Serbian churches and monasteries and select historical structures in 'Kosovo' be given special status and placed under the protective jurisdiction (with troops to guard them) of the UN.

They are already guarded by KFOR troops.

Please whoever is writing as Albanian and is reporting murders in Kosovo, show facts rather than words, and let us see if there are any killings in Kosovo??

Russia has 400 billion in foreign reserves and twice that in gold reserves meanwhile western countries have nothing and they are doing well.
I see the Russian rubel has gained ground on the Euro and dollar. I hate to break it to you but if the rubel collapsed it would have brought down many other currencies and it would have affected the US.
(sj, 24 December 2014 20:33)

Hahahaha... sj, you are a true Luddite!

Mr.Nikolic used to be a cemetery supervisor in his early days. And judging from the way he runs his office, I am afraid he thinks he is still supervising a cemetery. Can someone tell him, to wake up and move forward.

What good was brought to the population of Serbia from years and years of Kosovo reality denial. Are Serbs living or felling better now than a decade ago? Will Serbs be better of, outside EU? Is your friend Russia a trustworthy ally? If you take a minute to answer these question, that is the end of the story.

Of course it’s a condition for entry into the paradise called the EU where upon literally overnight your unemployment is halved and your spending power triples while at the same time happiness reigns forever, just look at Romania and Bulgaria the model members whose streets are paved in 24 carat gold and their peoples live in luxury and joy.
Now that the fairy tale has been told, current politicians are in a dilemma. Firstly, they can’t just recognise Kosovo which means a referendum, that’s where Kostunica shows his brilliance. Secondly, since these guys are paid to sing the praises of heaven on earth, how long can they string Brussels along squeezing out every last Euro out of them before they awake and find out that it’s all a rouse.
Sadly the EU is now on the edge of a Recession, now I wonder if Washington has sanctions on the EU???? Japan is there already ahead of Russia, now how did that happen???? Please don’t tell the Albos as they like to keep their heads in the sand and not be told the bad news LOL.

I agree. Seeing as tens of millions of people within the EU want out, I sure as hell hope Serbia leaves the offer. Nikolic is an embarrassment as is Serbia's political elite regarding Kosovo-Metohija. Joining the EU is suicide for any nation-state as we can see all the dire problems in Europe today-north and south. Your country Germany is increasingly opposing the Islamicization of your society with thousands of people rioting in the streets. In the south, Greeks and Italians are rioting every day against austerity measures. Hell even Brussels itself was brought to a standstill over this very thing.

Who ever thinks Serbia's place is to join this cancerous EU is out of their minds.

(T, 24 December 2014 12:17)

Oh, did they? I never heard about a referendum that took place in Kosovo (though Mr. Obama erroneously said so when comparing Crimea with Kosovo) - there has been only a unilaterally declaration of independence issued by a mysterious undefined group calling themselves 'representatives of the people of Kosovo'. So, fact is, nobody, not the elected representatives, and not a majority of Kosovars, decided about the independence.

So did the citizens of Crimea but still you dont think that they should have it because they are russian. (Dardani USAlbania, 24 December 2014 13:58)

My little Albanian posing as a Serb Russia is a creditor country unlike the US which now owes 19 trillion and by this time next year it will be 20 trillion. As one US satirist said, they could not pay off that debt even if they sold Alaska. 10% of Americans own 90% of the stock on the US stock so who is benefiting there again?
QE is just printing money and 3rd law of physics applies to everything including finance – there is a price for action. Interest rates need to rise to soak up all those printed dollars to avoid inflation not because of a revived economy.
According to the Japanese Government it is in a recession as of 4 weeks ago, but its only savings grace is that the money the government owes belongs to the Japanese people not outside banks.
