(regarding your second comment:)

The republic was not imposed on the people, or else the Naradna Odbrana would not have called themselves Naradna, pre-1914. They were not monarchists. Draza Mihailovic stated he wanted a USA style democracy when speaking to an OSS agent in the 1940s. The USA military documents were released in 1985, go read it. You lack a lot of intelligence with your goal of an utopian monarchy. The past monarchy is no beacon, neither is the heritage law. The past monarchy removed Serbia and Serbs' identity by replacing it with Jugoslavia.

He needs to publically apologize to Serbs outside of Serbia for suspecting them of being communists or associates of Milosevic during the 1990s when he couldn't fluently speak to Serbs in their mother tongue.

Serbia should be about Serbia, not about their image to the world's brainwashed image of Serbs. He is not smarter than victimized Serbs. He is reliant on Serbs paying taxes to cover the heritage law he enjoys without a reason. I'm sure Apis would not sponsor him. How many others received money today for abandoning their property and people of the past? If Serbia has a welfare system then Aleksandar should be privileged to receive it, if need be. Today's tax paying Serbs should not be paying for what Serbs deemed necessary 70+ years ago. The monarch fled his kingdom leaving his property and people behind. That was his choice as a teenager.

Aleksandar is no salvation to Serbs. He's been there how long under the heritage law? He claims having him as monarch will bring Serbia back, but doesn't state how, just like Bosnians say if they join the EU the economy will be better without stating how. Blah, blah, blah. He has no fixes.

They are not royals, nor are they state officials. They hold no official political or ceremonial state position or title. Don't say they do by referring to them as royals. They received a lot of money from a heritage law and many people wrongfully think that is some sort of state position. State officials of today should represent state officials of the past.

To: Ari Gold,

You're wrong. It was Apis, not the Karadjordjevic family that led the unification of Serbs ever since the Austrian monarchy annexed Bosnia. The Croats and Slovenes wrote a letter in 1918 wanting to join the Serb Kingdom after they lost fighting for the Austrian monarchy, and to which they committed crimes against humanity with their atrocities against Serb civilians in Serbia during the invasions of Serbia, starting in 1914.

His grandfather didn't choose Jugoslavia over Serbia, he created Jugoslavia under his dictation! He eliminated democracy.

Furthermore, his father fled the kingdom when Hitler invaded. It was the people that remained and fought. Russians liberated Belgrade. You probably already know that, though, and are willing to overlook it.

There is no crown prince of Serbia, today. He is there because of a heritage law, and not some sort of political position. Apis (Dragutin Dimitrijevic, state security) removed the Obrenovic dynasty and replaced it with the Karadjordjevic family. His grandfather turned the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes into a dictatorship in the 1920s with his creation of Jugoslavia. His assassinated Grandfather's uncle (prince regent) signed a deal with Hitler, hence giving up sovereignty. His father abandoned Serbia, while the people remained. He is in Serbia, and got the property back, because of a heritage law, not because of a Serbian militia placing him on the throne. The radical party have been critical of the Obrenovic dynasty and the Karadjordjevic dynasty in the past two centuries; hence, no crown on their party's emblem.

I understand where you come from, but joining the Allies brought us death and destruction on a grand scale. Yugoslavia was never meant to fight in the second world war, Hitler never planned to invade Yugoslavia, hence why he pushed us to join the Axis union.

You mention the Kingdom of Yugoslavia wanted to protect allies? Please explain how they are our allies?

British agents were present and promoted the League of Prizren in the late 1800's, Greeks in WW1 only stepped in to help Serbia because of diplomatic pressure by the Russian Empire. Even the UK did not want to send troops to Corfu but were pressured once again by the Russian Empire to do so.

If the people of Beograd knew 1 million Serbs would be killed and our nation would be occupied by communists, I don't think they would be dancing in the streets haha.

For one the people demanded it, and celebrated in the streets chanting "better war than pact" Think about what this means for that generation that already saw war and lost about a quarter of their population 25 years earlier. The Air Force bloodless coup was loyal to the royal family, placing the young king in power and even respectful to the prince regent who erred in making this peace but was not killed for it. The Officers did not do it for their own power. They did it to redeem Serbia. That redemption, demanded by the population, blocking the Nazis from attacking our Greek brothers, was one of Serbia's and Royal Yugoslavia's finest moments. I cannot comprehend how you think it was bad.

Like at Kosovo in 1389 they knew they would be punished by an occupier, but still refused to fall into slavery.

A new era upon Serbia, today, tomarrow and there after should be the most concern for us all. The future we can control but the past now only history. For Serbia the highest priority today, tomarrow and there after is SECURITY and ECONOMY. Security in the form of total updating and upgrading of military equipment to the highest modern technology standards. Second the Economy. to establish open markets and trade with friendly countries who are growing and expanding. Serbia a nation surrounded by hostile and evil can only accomplish the above mentioned goals by becoming a part of a much bigger and greater Eastern Empire World. Serbia united with Russia, the first and most important step to the path of stability for Liberty and Peace. Today Russia the most powerfull military country in the world! Today Russia allied with China and India to form the Great Eastern Empire World. Serbia to become a great nation of the Eastern Empire World. Our Serbian history, tragedy and accomplishments honored and never to be forgotten. Our Kings and Heroes honored and never to be forgotten. Now Serbia in a new era, we march on, the destination Liberty and Peace for our sacred race. We are now in the new millenium, all the rules have changed and Serbia must accept this reality and must adapt for extreme change. This new century began with extreme tragedy for Serbia and it's people but because the fuse of wrath was lit by evil, this century will indeed end in great tragedy for the whole world!

I am not a royalist and I firmly belive that nobody has a birthright to anything. Just because someone is born to a particular set of parents by accident of birth doesn't entitle them to hold any position where they govern on others' behalf at public expense. That privilege must be earned.
Having said that, the fact that the royal family was welcomed back in Serbia they have to be afforded the respect that position holds. We can't have it both ways. We cannot have the royals back and then insult them. This is an example of the level of maturity Serbian government has reached and clearly they are still set in the old Communist ways.
Not a good look if they want to be taken seriously by anyone besides China.

Ya but it's bigger than that. Serbia's identity is tied to the Monarchy and a part of our great history is the fact that the Karadjordjevic dynasty was started by liberating Serbia from the Ottoman Empire. The dynasty has made a lot of mistake in the past, i.e choosing to create Yugoslavia and bring the rest of the south slavs into civilization.

But in an increasingly globalized world, the monarchy is a beacon of traditionalism and stability which will keep Serbia close to its roots and above all else, give it the identity it sorely has lacked since it became a republic under communism. The republic was imposed on Serbia and at the very least, the Serbian people should have a referendum on if they want to bring the monarchy back. I vote yes.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with your assessment of history. You can't mismanage something you have no control over don't forget it was the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Third Reich that were the aggressors not the Serbian monarchy. We fought against all odds in these conflicts and though not totally victorious in the end the least we can do is honour our dead properly and on state occasions that should include representatives of the monarchy if you have one. Whilst I would agree with you that this guy is not a barrel of laughs,he and his selfless wife do a lot for Serbia and the Serbian people. As much as is in their power. So chill out the monarchy has it's place and should not be disrespected after all if we had less corrupt institutions then people would not be looking elsewhere for salvation because that is what Serbia needs.

His great grandfather liberated Serbia from the Turks. His grandfather led Serbia towards the cause of liberating the rest of the South Slavs from Austro-Hungary. Would you have rather stayed occupied? I am so proud that our nation unlike some of our neighbors in the region consistently stood up to much stronger empires and did not bow down to their interests in the Balkans. This carried on with Nazi Germany and NATO in the 90s. It's an honor to die for your nations' freedom, I'd do it any day. Are any of Serbia's neighbors better off for not doing that? No, not at all.

I will say one thing though, his grandfather was a brave hero who fought on the front lines of WWI while he was King, but the one mistake he made was choosing Yugoslavia over Serbia at a time when USA, Russia, France and the UK allowed Serbia to pick for her sacrifice in the Great War.

I don't think its asking too much for King Aleksandar to be present at the commemoration. Sa Verom u Boga, Za Kralja i Otadzbinu!

If the people should have their say then I would like to say My Grandfather and one of his brothers was a Solunac (veteran of the battle of Thesolonika). He fought under the command of Vojvoda Stepa Stepanovic. Along with all the survivors of the retreat through Albania, he did so loyaly to his commander, his king, people and God. When the communists took over they tried to erase these veterans and king from history. Drunk communist thugs broke into the home of, and murdered 80 year old vojvoda Bojovic in peace time. Milunka Savic, the most decorated woman in the history of modern warfare died as a cleaning lady in Belgrade without even a pension.

We the people want to remember King Peter, and it is our expectation that his grandson can honor those who fought for his country, and his grandfathers

Serbia does not know what is good. The prime minister is a dictator and curtailing freedom of the media. Alexander and Katherine are what is best for Serbia, they care about people and help them with their humanitarian work. Serbia is just a banana republic using monarchy symbols. Serbia would do well to be a constitutional monarchy and send a new positive image to the world.

That is true because you can take a horse to the lake, but you can't make it drink the water. But you are also wrong because you are missing the bigger picture.

1913- (Serbia was forced out of Albania by both the UK and Austro Hungarian Empire- Serbian royal family obliged).
1919- (The UK forced the creation of Yugoslavia- Alexander agreed to this like a dog begging for his owners approval)
1941- (UK forced the royal family to tear up the Axis pact- Serbian royal family obliged)
1943- (UK forced the Serbian royal family to denounce the chetniks and instead support the communist satanists.)

If you cant see that the Royal Family are a weed then you need your eyes checked, even King Petar the first when he returned to Serbia refused to be a king, he wanted to be a democratic leader, however he was forced by our good friends the UK to take the throne.

We the people want to remember King Peter, and it is our expectation that his grandson can honor those who fought for his country, and his grandfathers
kingdom. Things like this never happen in Great Britain or other kingdoms. In Great Britain and throughout the Common wealth, the Queen and governors general are central to all such memorial commemorations

Regardless what one may think about Monarchy,as a matter of protocal Crown Prince should have been officially invited by Government of Serbia to attend such important event in Serbia's history. It should not be forgotten by any Serb anywhere what contribution Prince's grandfather and great grandfather made in creation of modern State of SErbia.

I vote yes.

To: Ari gold,
(regarding your second comment:)

They are not royals, nor are they state officials. They hold no official political or ceremonial state position or title. Don't say they do by referring to them as royals. They received a lot of money from a heritage law and many people wrongfully think that is some sort of state position. State officials of today should represent state officials of the past.

There have been many politicians dead and alive, from multiple nationalities, who spoke/speak the language who have shared responsibility in the fact that not one generation in the Balkans has known peace.

To: lukebuyenovich,
There is no crown prince of Serbia, today.

Slavko

Aleksandar is no salvation to Serbs. He's been there how long under the heritage law? He claims having him as monarch will bring Serbia back, but doesn't state how, just like Bosnians say if they join the EU the economy will be better without stating how. Blah, blah, blah. He has no fixes.
