Over 60 percent of Croatians would "block Serbia"

Good, as a Serb I hope Croatia does everything to block Serbia's EU membership. I understand that the Croats think this way to spite Serbia, but in reality it would be a blessing for Serbia to be kept out of that disaster. Every Croat that I've asked in Dalmatia regarding their opinions on EU membership has been negative, but if they'd rather spend their energy in blocking Serbia than trying to get out themselves then that's fine with me.

I don't think Croats know their place in the EU. Germans decide who joins the EU, Croats clean German toilets. If Serbia is ever unlucky enough to be absorbed by the EU monster, then they will be given an even worse role than that given to Croats.

What a sorry state of affairs when you have to rely on the whim of people like the Croats to be able to join some rotten club. You are perpetually at the mercy of this wretched nation's malevolent spite. How they must be rubbing their hands with glee. Serbia has a unique history in following her own path, and not kowtowing to powerful sponsors. (Apart from more recent behaviour towards Putin's megalomania notwithstanding) Serbia should develop a neutral stance trading with all and beholden to none. That way she could have the satisfaction of telling the Croats and others, where to stick their EU membership.

What the Croatians want is irrelevant. Since November of this year, the full Lisbon Agreement is in force. Only foreign policy requires unanimity (after the council of ministers have agreed to pass on their position to the EU institutions). All the other policy areas such as Enlargment falls under Qualified Majority Voting. There is no single member state veto.

Croatia was not ready to join in the first place.

It still is partly racist and pompous about its status in the world, and as far as I see it, Croatia was effectively rewarded for its policy of ethnic cleansing; that issue was not fully and properly addressed before joining the EU.

When it comes to the crunch moment for Serbia to join, Croatia will not be allowed to have the casting vote however. Croatia is not so powerful or so important that it can forever be part of the disruption of the Balkans.

Serbia is not the nationalists who post on this site. serbia is people who need to make a living just like any other country.

Serbia could go it alone, but I think that the people would vote to join the EU even though it has been going through hard times. The future Is longer than just the current recession. When the boom times come, Serbia would lose out if it remains behind barriers, and that will soon enough become very obvious to everyone.

The biggest and saddest issue for my Serbian people is that it never accepted it's role in the tragedy that happened in the Balkans, namely that Milosevic successfully brainwashed an entire nation (the majority) into believing that Serbia was anything else but an aggressor. I am a Serb that lived in Zagreb in the 80s/90s and I never felt threatened. Milosevic attacked Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and occupied some of the territories in an effort to create a grater Serbia. Croatia fought back and of course in the process many Serbian people suffered. Milosevic was so skilled at manipulation that to this day the majority believes everything he said. Show me evidence that such a program existed elsewhere. And not a single country has ever said that Serbia should pay anything or can you provide me with such a statement?
