Of course Kosovo took part as a sovereign independent nation as Serbia signed the Brussels agreement mandating such a thing. Serbia is the leader in Kosovo recognition movement. Ask dejan pavicevic and Tomislav karadzic and vlade divac.

This is just one of many reasons why Serbia needs to get off the EU path immediately. There are plenty of economic and social ones too, but this one is important as well. See after unilaterally trying to legalize Serbia's amputation, the Western powers had little success and therefore had to switch the strategy towards pressuring Serbia's corrupted elite.

Fact still remains though, you get only as far as the Serbian government allows you to. You depend on the Serbian governments appeasement and therefore you cannot under any sane thought be considered "independent". You depend on Western humanitarian donations for your impoverished society and depend on Serbian generosity (as the case before).

I'm afraid Serbia has no choice but to stay on the EU path. Their "great friend and protecter" Russia is in line right behind Serbia at the soup kitchen. The US and Saudi Arabia have put the screws to Putin and his Kleptocracy. This blow dealt to Russia was a quadruple whammy: the price of oil tanking with no bottom in sight, the ruble at multiyear lows, their stock market in a nose dive and the price of gold collapsing AFTER Russia foolishly decided to buy. Rather piss poor timing for pathetic little Vlad, wouldn't you say!

Now, let's turn to Serbia's woes: after getting screwed out of Nis by their Slavic Orthodox brother Russia, Serbia had its only hope, the South Stream, dissolve before their its eyes AND to add insult to injury, the Dinar has devalued to the point where it takes a wheelbarrow full of Dinars to buy a loaf of bread. So Ari, what other option does Serbia have but to bend over and take it where the sun don't shine, just as Gaddafi, another of your heros did.

You Serb radicals keep saying that. But it was Serbia that was bombed, it was Serbia that had Kosovo stripped from it 15 years ago by the UNSC. It is Serbia that is forced to sit at the table with Kosovo authorities as equal or stay home. It is Serbia that is daily having to eat their own words everytime they say Kosovo is Serbia.
It is Kosovo that has been admitted to World Bank, IMF, now IOC. It is Kosovo that is formally recognized by 106 countries, and have developed relations with dozens more. It is Serbia that is being told that in order to even open talks to join the EU it must normalize "neighborly" relations
But yet the world does not like the people of Kosovo?

Well, Serbia also does not have universal recognition, and nobody is saying that Serbia should become part of some other country because of that. So, I'm not sure where the problem is, mate :)

Kosovo is and always will be Serbian. Albanians breed like rabbits wonder when the surrounding Balkan countries will rise up and say enough is enough.

All the other things, Serbia's corrupt elite handed it to you because only Serbia can do it, legally. And Serbia isn't "forced" to do anything, Serbia's feckless governments make concessions for an EU that not only is never going to allow Serbia (or Pristina institutions or Albania for that matter) into the EU, but it's not even going to exist in years time the way things are heading now.
