(Nenad, 15 December 2014 11:47) quoting a peak budget figure doesn't really tell me anything.
----
Here are the latest budget numbers with a November 2014 head count of 654.

2014-2015: $ 179,998,600
2012-2013: $ 250,814,000
2010-2011: $ 286,012,600

Complete lunacy to be spending $US 180 000 000 on the small number of cases and appeals in 2014 and projected for 2015.

False experts like Ridlemayer, who embarrassed the OTP and purjered himself during cross-examination, weren't worth a wooden nickle in expense. The laughably poor quality of evidence and the lack of any professional investigative capabilities demonstrated the squandering of money and resources on an unimaginable scale.
Meron hinmself recognized the incompetence of Del Ponte and lobbied to have her replaced.

You may wish to read the email Judge Harhoff sent to his colleagues and friends indicating how politics and foreign governments dictate judgments at the ICTY.

Or you may wish to read some of the cables sent by the US embassy in the Hague indicating how Meron lobbied to replace the incompetent Del Ponte.

Or you may to choose to follow icj1's lead and selectively cherry-pick the items that are only suitable for your narrative and tribe, to remain a blind ICTY apologist.

Amnesty Yugoslavia, quoting a peak budget figure doesn't really tell me anything. What were the expenses? In peak years, there would have been dozens of suspects in detention, each having multiple legal professionals attached to his or her case. Then you have facilities costs, back office staff, judges, investigators, travel cost incurred by investigators...it adds up. And all those costs have to be covered by an organization whose revenues were already said to be insufficient years before the global financial crisis, so just imagine the budget constraints of today.

According to ICTY insiders and whistleblowers the limitation was not budget, the limitation was competency, or rather the total lack of it.

(Nenad, 11 December 2014 14:31) I would also argue that many of the problems with the court are the result of a limited budget.

----

At its peak the annual ICTY budget was approx US $300 000 000 (three hundred million US dollars per year). I have heard many irrational and illogical arguments from ICTY apologists over the last two decades. However, the argument that this quantity is "limited" is laughable lunacy, perhaps only matched by the idiocy of ICTY paid experts (ie. for example see the many cross examinations of paid experts such as Ridlemayer in the Seselj case).

According to ICTY insiders and whistleblowers the limitation was not budget, the limitation was competency, or rather the total lack of it.

And you call the ICTY a kangaroo court, but do you honestly think Serbs would have received a fair trial in Serbia?
(Nenad, 11 December 2014 14:31)

Just as fair as the croat warcriminals got in Croatia or the muslim ones in Bosnia.

Jeff,

I would have thought the opposite. I don't think the UN is a well-funded organization, so hard to imagine the ICTY being a " gravy train". I would also argue that many of the problems with the court are the result of a limited budget, and ask exactly how much money countries are contributing to the UN - particularly those who tend to be more antagonistic toward the efforts of the ICTY. No better way to block the success of an organization than to refuse it money.

And you call the ICTY a kangaroo court, but do you honestly think Serbs would have received a fair trial in Serbia?

Time to get off the gravy train. Most of them know full well what a political kangaroo court it was from the start. It was just easy and paid well for mediocre lawyers.
