I find Brussels stance very funny indeed. On the one hand Turkey has been waiting for years to join the EU and refused on various grounds, but we all know that Turkey is a muslim country and Brussels does not want millions roaming in the EU. On the other hand it now wants Ankara to tow the EU line. The pen pushers in Brussels are in for a shock.
I know that the west has made blunders at every turn, but to try and destabilise the current government would prove very hard since the military is no longer in secular hands. Plus Ankara can retaliate and cause untold damage to both the US and EU.
On the issue of sanctions against Russia, I’m still baffled how this is hurting Russia except the western press talks about Moscow being in a recession next year. Perhaps it’s those democratically grown cucumbers they don’t import from the EU. However, Japan announced 3 weeks ago that it is in a recession and Germany is on the edge too and let’s not talk about the other basket cases such as Italy or France.
Turkey has never paid any note on those sanctions.
