To UK:

What do the exit polls show so far? Is the whole euro-skepticism movement expressed entirely by the UK Independence Party or do you have more parties towards the same direction? I do remember Cameron expressing concerns about the EU's enlargement (last summer I think) but that was only because of his concerns regarding future immigration in the UK.

Each EU hopeful will never get into the union. Simply because it will not exist in the near future. All that Germany is doing right now is staging their own economy for the eventual EU collapse.

you are right, it is all about that Trojan horse, so the expression is more like beware of Greek bearing gifts...

UK: It sounds to me as if Serbia is placing obstacles in its own way. Corruption is endemic in the Balkans and more often than not the top politicians are the worst offenders. Trying to get them to agree an action plan that will severely reduce their opportunities to feather their own nests will not be easy. I and my colleagues spent years in Bosnia trying to make progress in this area to no avail. If this is the step necessary to BEGIN negotiations then I would forget the whole affair. It was obvious from the start in Bosnia that the tactics of the politicians in ALL areas was to do nothing and hope that the EU blinked first and gave in. Initially this policy was successful but now attitudes have hardened after the financial crisis of 2007/8 (which is still on-going in Southern Europe) and member states are demanding visible progress before agreeing to move the accession process forward. 2025? Don't hold your breath.

Beware of Germany bearing gifts. (EU Dude, 8 December 2014 13:48)

In Russian it sounds as БОЙСЯ ДАНАЙЦЕВ, ДАРЫ ПРИНОСЯЩИХ. I’ve heard it many times but when I looked to the dictionary I found that “Denyen” are Greeks. So can someone finally explain it to me WHERE IS IT FROM ?

Haha, since B92 did not tell us the reason of this decision by Germany, let us all make something up. I say it is because of the love of Nikolic for Russia.

Thank you Germany. Telling Serbia to not get its hopes up for joining your club is very helpful. To be sure, it wont sway the Serbian government from taking on its EU has no alternative cause which literally amounts to suicide. But my hope is that it will become increasing apparent to reasonable people in Serbia who were duped into believing lies about EU membership, both its likeliness and its prospect to actually help Serbia.

But really, this isn't about Serbia. No one is going to join the EU any time soon. The EU is going through a very rocky time right now, it cannot afford to take on new members.

No surprises there then. Despite all the rhetoric of recent weeks from a variety of European politicians, it seems there will be obstacles placed every step of the way. It begins to look less and less attractive a proposition to try and join this club. The goalposts keep getting moved and I don't suppose that is going to change any time soon. I also begin to think that when the promised UK referendum takes place, serious consideration should be given to leaving the EU. I am becoming increasingly sceptical of the usefulness of membership.

All of those who were engaged in signing the similar SAA with Turkey ( on both sides) 51 years have died already … But the hope is always the last to die.
