This is rubbish. Financial Advisors were appointed in early 2006 who recommended a stake of a non-controlling stake in a competitive tender process. The ruling DSS lead government accepted this proposal.Refining was experiencing a golden age and almost all companies present in central europe were interested in NIS. A change in leadership and political dithering resulted in missing this window. Advisors were jettisoned to save a couple of million dollars, Gasprom was given exclusive negotiating privileges and a poor deal was negotiated that has cost Serbia dearly.

“Yes, the European Union needs gas, and even more Russia”

Gas and oil live on the border of business and politics. This is why they cannot be measured in only one dimension. Russia and US are questioning the existence of one another while Europe is just one of the tools they use in this mortal war. So the price is much higher than the gas price. It is what Goebbels called TOTAL WAR. A more precise name than the update HYBRID WAR because it also shows the level of the efforts undertaken. At least for Russia it’s a TOTAL WAR. So many things are not taken into consideration because only final victory means. Just like in an old Russian song

А НЫНЧЕ НАМ НУЖНА ОДНА ПОБЕДА,
ОДНА НА ВСЕХ – МЫ ЗА ЦЕНОЙ НЕ ПОСТОИ.

"I believe the construction of South Stream will continue. The European Union needs gas, Russia cannot export all it as to China, and when there's a need on both sides, the project's realization can be expected," he told B92 late on Tuesday.

Yes, the European Union needs gas, and even more Russia as a country that is living only from exporting natural resources needs to export gas not to go bankrupt. But so far, there have been enough existing pipelines to provide Europe with Russian gas, except for the problems some years ago caused by a certain transit country. Gas demand in the EU was shrinking in the last few years. So I never understood the need for that pipeline at all.
