"Asked whether the abandoning of the pipeline would endanger Europe's gas supply, the source said that EU 'has no problems with gas supplies.'"

Of course not. Not with North Stream running smoothly. And that's all that matters to the EU, right? :)

This so called anonymous source is nothing but a spin doctor and talking crap. There is no way that the current low oil and gas prices are sustainable on the long term. In fact, they are likely to go up again even before South Stream would have been completed. For sure the price would not remain this low for the planned lifespan of the South Stream, so this argument that South Stream would not be financial viable does not make any logical sense.

As for the EU's stance/behavior, it's all just arbitrary. Considering that the TAP pipeline is t bound by the same regulations that are used by the EU to sabotage South Stream, it is clear that the regulations themselves are not the real problem. Given the fact that this whole episode started immediately after some American senators (John McCain, Christopher Murphy and Ron Johnson) visited Sofia, the whole regulations dispute is more likely to just be an excuse found to match the demands of these (war) criminals to hurt Russia in any way.

That as a result, Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia and Bulgaria itself get seriously shafted by the EU and the USA, could not bother them the least. I can only hope that the EU and the USA will one day pay for all the damage they've done. Until then, the rest of the world better embrace itself, for it's likely going to get a lot worse now that the EU and USA essentially have committed themselves to maintaining their power by ever increasing (war) criminal behavior.

It really isn't Bulgaria's fault. The EU central institutions are made up of people who are unelected, so they don't care how the average European actually lives. So hundreds of thousands of jobs are depended in Europe on trade with Russia, and whether those people lose work or not, it doesn't matter. The South Stream Pipeline currently presented the countries it would go through (all of which except Serbia are EU member states), with the most affordable and convenient energy.

Had the free-market been allowed to take its course, the pipeline would be still on. But because the central planners meddled with progress, European states can add energy insecurity on their long list of problems created by this cancerous EU.

Not like the central planners care. They still have their chauffeured BMW's driving them around enjoying their luxurious lifestyles all brought to you by the hard-working European tax payer.
