And, Serbia does not feel the same way toward Croatia ?
(Moderate Serb, 5 December 2014 07:42)

Ethnic Croatians living in Serbia are not encountering anywhere near the same obstacles as ethnic Serbs in Croatia. No doubt Serbs harbor ill feelings towards Croats too, but almost all of that stems from what the Croats have done in the past 70 years.

While being lynched at the Hague, Seselj testified to the truth in the recent wars in the former Yugoslavia and spoke the truth about the history of the Serbs and those who exterminated them before and want to do so again. He's a defender of truth and of Serb history - most people sell out today but he doesn't. For this reason alone, he has many admirers among the Serbs. He exposes the lies, barbarism, hypocrisy and corruption of the West and his fascist accusers.

Danilo, get a reality check PLEASE. Only recently has Croatia held some commemoration attended by a few officials for Jasenovac. At no point do any Croatians actually learn or accept what they have done in WW2, or have they been forced to accept it. They have not been forced to accept and apologize for their crimes. A huge majority of Croats believe Jasenovac is a farce and deny any wrong doing. Unlike in Germany where they were forced to see and acknowledge their Nazi past, and have them in school books, Croatia continues to deny its past and tried to repeat it in the 90's.

You are right that Sesselj went to the Hague voluntarily, my mistake on that. Sesselj is war mongering and talking, but nobody is listening. Of course you have a few whackos who support him, that's everywhere, but the overwhelming majority could not care. Only a few hundred greeted Sesselj at the airport while hundreds of thousands greeted Gotovina and company, which included a parade/fest and government/church officials. Serbia has never stated Serbia is only for Serbs, but Croatia stated Croatia is only for Croats.

Sesselj can talk about Velika Srbija, Krajina, Zagreb, Bosna, and all the other crazy talk he wants. He has no support. People have not rallied around him one bit. Serbs are looking to move forward, but it seems that Croatia still harbors nationalistic hate towards Serbs.

Serbia is Seselj and Seselj is Serbia. Serbs elected Seseljs and Slobo's proteges. Nothing has changed. You'll be treated like a spoiled child until you decide to grow up. So either grow up or quit crying.

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic says he agrees that the policy of Vojislav Seselj should be condemned, but that Serbia should not have the same treatment.

A good start. So if you (and Mr Nikolic, and Mr Vucic) would have said the sentence up to the 'but' right on time, this resolution wouldn't have been initiated and passed the EP.

P.S.: No, not only the policy of Seselj, but his sick words and ideas as well.

I note that someone has said that the Serbian government should tell him to shut up. Why? Do they have the right to tell ANYONE to shut up? No doubt if they tried to restrict freedom of speech of Seselj or anyone else for that matter they would fall foul of the ECHR. Personally, I think that Seselj is a despicable individual but the only person he damages with his rhetoric is himself. I don't like to agree with Dacic because he has hardly covered himself in glory over the last few years either, but he is right, condemn Seselj by all means but unless there is evidence to suggest that Serbian government officials agree with what he says there is no reason to include them in the resolution.

Aleks,

Your post has some strange things in it. Firstly, Serbia didn't arrest Seselj, he went to the Hague voluntarily.

Secondly, Croatia's has a yearly commemoration at Jasenovac to remember the crimes there and the president has attended every year.

Also not exactly sure what you mean about Seselj speaking out "about" warmongering. If by that you mean he is publicly warmongering during press conferences, you're right. If you're suggesting that he's rejecting it, then listen to his press conferences. He's unequivocal about being for extending Serbia's borders to Zagreb and Durres. Not sure how one would do that without war.

Aleks

This final statement about not being able to solve problems from the past, but rather making them irrelevant is a good statement and one that will be hard to over come in the Balkans. The one thing with making the past irrelevant is to finally, and openly deal with the past. Croatia has yet to even begin doing this. Croatia needs to admit to it's Nazi past, what the Ustasha did, and apologize. Admit to the WW2 camps, Jasenovac among them, admit that they tried to exterminate Serbs again in the 90's, and openly take responsibility for their actions. This is how you make the past irrelevant. You then make comments like Sesselj's irrelevant.

Serbia arrested and sent Sesselj to the Hague. When they initially wanted to release him, Serbia didn't exactly want him. They then released him without conditions. No Serb official greeted him at the airport. Sesselj has not only spoken out about 'warmongering', he has also spoken out against the Serbian government as well in some very fiery rhetoric. They haven't responded to those comments either, nor are they entertaining him in any way. So it's insane to think the government supports Sesselj in any way. Serbia also arrested Karadzic, Mladic, Milosevic, and several others. They apologized for Serb actions in Srebrenica. They too have work to do to make the past irrelevant, but Serbia is far ahead of Croatia on this matter. T

For what?
(Ari Gold, 2 December 2014 14:26)

For the simple reason that it would be the right thing to do as well as politically expedient.

you love to accuse everyone of "Serbophobia". Fact is Seselj (hardly an "old man"; he's 60. not even retirement age) built his career on calling for war and lynch. He's out of jail and still calling for war and lynch.

Like it or not, fair or not, Serbia has the reputation as being the main actor of war in the balkans. Also, most of the government today were once in the same party as Seselj.

If you're incapable of noticing all this and seeing that it would be much easier and correct to make a statement distancing him from this, then there's really no hope for you.

Question though.... do you think it's "anti Serbian" to say, "We don't agree with the concept of attacking other countries and nations?"

For what? To appease the highly expensive but utterly useless "European Parliament" that does not make the important laws of Europe anyway? What will Serbia get out of "distancing" itself from a dying old man's rhetoric, when the rest of the region is still suffering with fever-pitch hatred and Serbophobia??

In Italy just 3 weeks ago, the Croatian Ustashe mounted what could only be described as a terrorist attack during Croatia's football match with Italy. They aimed flame throwers at Italian players, used weapons against Italian police, tore apart seats at the stadium and threw them at Italian fans. This was very deliberate, organized and on a very mass scale.

And no word out of the useless European Parliament about that. It's the hypocrisy Danilo. That's the key word every time you must take into account when you spew your sick self-hatred. Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy! Say it with me!

The Serbian government needs to tell him to shut-up. No backbone I say. It appears Serbia cannot handle anything and cant make up it's mind which direction to go in until it gets a ultimatum and then scrambles and tries to make up their mind which never really happens. Come on - make some decisions.
