Russia has alternative buyers for its energy.
(Amnesty Yugoslavia, 5 December 2014 20:53)

Just a small correction... "will, eventually have alternative buyers for its energy at lower prices". The pipeline to China is years away...
----------

EU residents and current consumers of current Russian gas, are less worried about Russia and more concerned with how they expect to heat their homes and run their industries.
(Amnesty Yugoslavia, 5 December 2014 20:53)

Sure, and being supplied by Russia is certainly not the answer as Russia has demonstrated itself.

The "analysis" is mediocre, at best. Just because an "analysis" supports what you have fabricated in your mind does not make it "insightful". As an example, the "analysis" attacks the EU's insistence that SS comply with EU's Third Energy Package, but the author does not say why he thinks the Third Energy Package is not good for the European consumers?

Why is that not a suprise to me? Because the author of the article is somebody who has been disbarred in the UK for deceiving a client. Is he perhaps also one of the distinguished legal experts of RT News you usually refer to?

(icj1, 3 December 2014 05:35) Perhaps Russia can still demand payments from the EU even after it closes the gas.

----

Russia has alternative buyers for its energy. In the future they will no longer be demanding payments from the EU, because they will be rerouting supply to China, India, South Korea, Japan, Turkey and other Asian customers.

EU residents and current consumers of current Russian gas, are less worried about Russia and more concerned with how they expect to heat their homes and run their industries.

What is really amusing is reading the postings of the Albanian barbers, car wash attendants and pizza deliverers pretending to be energy experts. What is contradictory with my comment about Russia signing the two biggest gas deals with China and couple more in the pipeline?Russia is the second largest trading partner of Turkey and it's natural for both countries to increase their trade. What is even more funny is the Albanian ranting on the matter. You're neither an EU member nor a gas recipient therefore your saying on the subject should be zero.

It's too bad for Serbia to lose South Stream, but Serbia's love for Russia does not translate to being the hub of the RF's foreign policy.

The RF is very, very big.

Serbia is very, very small. Serbia saw this coming. Perhaps this is what motivated the recent trip to that other very, very small country, Israel.

The only catch for the RF in turning towards Turkey is the rise of Islam as a political force there. Russia is openly hostile to Islam in its borders and with good cause, but what does that mean to Turkey and how they deal with Russian energy? Are they going to be the same treacherous business partners as Ukraine?

You probably ignore what Osborne said on his budget speech in March 2014,so lets remind ourselves. He said said oil and gas was a “key British export” of the overall economy. Therefore, price falls will not affect only Russia and other countries but it will also leave a huge hole on Britain's finances.Considering that Britain's deficit this year is well above budget expectations you should expect more austerity measures from Osborne and co.

"Putin believes that Bulgaria isn’t acting like an independent state by delaying the South Stream project, which would be profitable for the country."

How truthful is this statement. This is the kind of sovereignty the EU envisages for Ukraine as well. The EU's poorest country, which badly needs any revenue it can get, is so independent that it shoots itself in the foot after McCain and EU commission issue their diktats and direct threats to Sofia.

This is of course another good move by Putin after the two mega gas deals he recently signed with China. With this move Russia together with Turkey will completely kill off any Nabuko plans because Turkey won't have any interest to support that project when they have Blue Steam with all its gas supplied by Russia at cheaper prices.

In summary, they don’t need to since the EU has not passed the threshold.
Having said that, if Russia was to ban imports and close the gas it would affect the entire world and its economy as well. These are cards they have and play when they consider necessary.
The EU’s economy is precarious. Angela Merkel is not liked by German business people, but they do like Russia and Moscow plays up to them. There are strong rumours about removing Merkel, but they are only rumours at this stage. If she crosses the line then they will be fact.
This is the third time Germany has lost the “war” on controlling Europe.
The west is folding and it’s not propaganda on my part, but a fact. After some 500 years the money is no longer in the west. Russia now controls a huge chunk of the world’s energy because it controls the Caspian oil and gas through Azerbajan. Crimea is gone and Russia has taken control of the Black Sea. Turkey is playing ball with Moscow and soon Europe will be under its control. The affects of shutting the gas would cause economic collapse in Germany and if they go then the rest are finished.

sj

pre 9 godina

You under estimate Vladimir Putin at your peril and with announcement of cessation of construction of South Stream may have more to do with positioning in the game now being played by Russia and the west.
You have to remember that the major owners of this pipeline are EU corporations that have so far pumped billions upon billions of Euros in the project. These same corporations will now turn on the EU political leadership and demand either a change on the way South stream is being treated or seek compensation which would place the EU budget on an even greater strain. The money involved is enormous.
Putin now has driven a wedge between Turkey and its NATO partners by signing up on a huge trade deal with Ankara, which the US does not like for one minute. In addition, Russia has brought to reality a number of projects much earlier than the west estimated and Putin can issue a take it or leave it ultimatum.
All Russia now has to do is reduce the amount of gas being sold to the EU and industry stops or they freeze. I’ve never seen this level of bungling from the west much like standing on a chair putting a noose around their necks and threatening anyone who comes close they will kick the chair from under their feet. Meanwhile Vlad is saying kick it now LOL.

The arguments they make are so contradictory that even they don't know what to love or hate at this point - they have just cornered themselves to being the laughing stock of these forums.
(icj1, 3 December 2014 05:59)

What is really amusing is reading the postings of the Albanian barbers, car wash attendants and pizza deliverers pretending to be energy experts. What is contradictory with my comment about Russia signing the two biggest gas deals with China and couple more in the pipeline?Russia is the second largest trading partner of Turkey and it's natural for both countries to increase their trade. What is even more funny is the Albanian ranting on the matter. You're neither an EU member nor a gas recipient therefore your saying on the subject should be zero.

We were waiting for this announcement for some time ...SS was a project with no economic sense, with a cost that was scaling up every months and with a European market in crisis of total consumption...Now Putin will play his cards directly with Ukraine and will try to consolidate his alliance with Erdogan who from his part is very happy to slap EU and Obama .. we will see what the future will be...

he doesn't realize that this is just another recipe to add for more disunity and tensions within the crumbling EUSSR. I wonder if you'll be laughing when your country is the first to leave even after you vote for it to remain a province of this empire.

Now as social tensions continue to rise because of EU austerity in places like Italy and Greece, these people have to forego the most inexpensive and convenient option for their energy needs because of these same vile institutions that you love so much.

If Russia gets a too pissed off it will ban all EU imports and close the gas to the EU then first country to go under is Germany and with it the rest including the UK. Then they will not be offering you a voluntary redundancy package but giving you the boot with nothing. Try laughing at that one mate.

Russia is having serious financial issues, they simply couldn't finance south stream.

Putin found a nice political trick to cancel the project, and at the same time he sold a lot of natural gas to the middle east islamic country of turkey. Nice deal for him, problem for those who believed and trusted him. But this is a classic russian approach, those who were naive now face a terrible truth

sj

pre 9 godina

If the Turks can get cheaper gas from Russia so will the Greeks, why not. They are all winners. But I cannot understand the Albanian ranting on the subject. You are neither EU members nor buying any gas ( mind you the word buy is not on the Albanian vocabulary)therefore not affected or shall we say you're trying to extract your little revenge on Putin.

Leonidas

Yeah, that's very tragic because Russia will go under before them with its currency in free fall and not receiving anymore $$$ for its gas. What a place will the world be without mother Russia!!!

But there is a solution. Perhaps Russia can still demand payments from the EU even after it closes the gas. The CE of B92 forums sj should be able to confirm if that's possible so we can all celebrate that Russia is safe.
