Serbian "slava" in UNESCO's cultural heritage list

The Serbian "slava" - family patron saint day celebration - has been included in UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

I welcome this. If there is one thing that represents being a Serb more than anything else, it's celebrating your slava. It is unique, and I don't think any other nation has something like it. Even during the long dark night of atheist Communism the slava endured to be recognised today, as a unique event celebrating Serbian identity.

Actually the slava is not unique to the Serbs, there are Muslim Gypsies from Vranje that celebrate the slava. They probably married with Serbs at some point and retained the practice of the slava after they converted to Islam.
