It is Vladimir Shamanov the airborne troop’s commander who became famous during storming Grozny city where he arranged a false corridor for Basaev and about 3000 of his gang men. He sent a major who persuaded the bandits that for USD 100 000 he can arrange a safe retreat route. Not only the bandits were ambushed but they were canalized to the mine field that was activated at once. As a result some 1500 Wahhabis were killed and many were wounded including Basaev to lose his foot. Over the TV said that Basaev and his men were easy to be guided ("as goats") because they were "shepherds".
