"It is possible to support the independence of some regions around the world whilst opposing others"
(SCP UK, 17 November 2014 21:57)

Sure it is, but it's nothing like a 'principled stance' and you might have problems finding people who understand your point of view.

For me it's clear: Either you respect the principle of territorial integrity of states, or you support the principle of 'freedom of ethnic minorities' who have the right to declare own states. But then - for each and everyone. Why should Kosovo Albanians have the right to declare an own state, while Russians in Ukraine have not? Or why should Russians have this right, but you deny it to the Kosovo Albanians? Makes no sense, sorry. And please, spare me with the 'Crimea has always been Russian' nonsense - it's easy to find out what ethnicity has been living there first. Little hint: The name of this native ethnic group which once made the majority of population even has the word 'Crimean' in it.

"Šešelj is a fascist. Simple. so I don't understand how he fits in with Putins ideology, especially since he is actively involved in fighting the so-called fascist regime of the Ukraine. "

Well, he fits perfectly with Russian fas.. eh nationalist ideology, which is maybe more popular in Russia than in Ukraine. Ever heard about Zhirinovsky?

The fact that you hold that view shows just how narrow minded you are. It is possible to support the independence of some regions around the world whilst opposing others, your standpoint of criticising Albanian seperatism in Kosovo whilst spewing the usual US/EU inspired BS about Russia and their allies is laughable.

Patriot?

Huh. Rubbish.

He is an unpleasant nasty pig of a man, a criminal who has blotted Serbia's good name.

It says little good for Russia if it wishes to be associated with him.

Šešelj is a fascist. Simple. so I don't understand how he fits in with Putins ideology, especially since he is actively involved in fighting the so-called fascist regime of the Ukraine.
For those who believe that whatever the Russain TV reports are not the sentiments of Putin himself then let me inform them that it is common knowledge, even in Russia, that every sound bite that gets broadcast over the Russian airwaves these days is controlled by Mr President himself.
So either VP is confused what Fascists are or what heroes are because in my book you can't put both words in the same sentence.

He said that his party supports the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk republics, and considers "Crimea a part of Russia, as Kosovo is a part of Serbia."

What a moron. Did he mean:
- Crimea is part of Russia, as Kosovo is part of Albania?
Or
- Crimea is part of Ukraine, as Kosovo is part of Serbia.

Only those combinations make some sense. Supporting the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk republics is like supporting the self-declared republic of Kosovo, each of them created by ethnic minorities on the terriotry of a sovereign state.

That hurts doesn´t it B92? You where always the NR1 leading anti-Serbian US client in the hysterical post-war smearing campaign, but you as well as NATO´s and Ahlbright´s pompous imperial "tribunal", have yet to produce just ONE convincing evidence of his guilt, let alone pay him reparations for defamation and slander. "Suicide" him in prison would have been to much after Milosevic, even for the anglo-american toads posing as "judges" in the kangaroo court...

I saw the interview and I can say it was not quite so as described here. First of all they said that HUDREDS came to greet him but not TENS OD THOUSANDS. It was really said that VS was the most famous prisoner in Europe and everybody knows it is true. ( Now it must be Ratko Mladic. ) What is important there was no contradiction between VS and the current government being mentioned. Because everybody understands that compared to Boris Toma has made a big step forward in relations with Russia. Yet VS reminded me of Nicolic before he took the chair. At least the interview we are talking about was similar to what Toma was saying to the Russian mass media. I mean he used to be more of a radical than he is now. Today he has to think about all the sequences of what he’s doing or not.

One must also understand that Russia would prefer faster progress in bilateral relations and Russia is more decisive towards the west if only Serbia can afford it. Also I have to tell that Serbia and destruction of Yugoslavia are discussed here every day in a revenge spirit. (Yesterday they spoke of the Srbska Kraina massacre) So the comeback of a man like VS had zero chance not to be noticed. It is always mentioned that Serbia has deprived itself of the custom’s taxes and part of independence for years in exchange for some misty promises. As a whole Russian mass media remain utmost loyal towards Serbia and nobody is here to undermine the government. So much will depend on Serbia itself.
