Vaclav Klaus has accused the West, especially the United States, for escalating the crisis in Ukraine and an attempt to be "world's only policeman."

Another conspiracy theory. Many people love them. The next one will be "Merkel's hidden agenda", or how did a DDR-agent hijacked German democracy on behalf of Honecker.

if, as you said, these leaders from the former eastern block have troubles letting go, ask yourself who in charge of eu. an eastern germainian isn't it. so your logic would apply that even she has a bit of ussr leaning in her mindset. as such, one with that leaning, leading a block of nations, and unelected officials might very easily start down a path of ussr-like behaviour.

"It was clear that Russia would try to restore partially the position it held for almost half a century since the end of World War II, which was lost after the defeat in the Cold War," wrote Klaus.

Which means occupying territories and sending soldiers of the former Warsaw pact. Happened to Czechoslovakia, too.

The EU is the new USSR- a supernational entity, artificially constructed and centrally planned by unelected bureaucrats. The EU suppresses individual freedoms and national sovereignty and is very detrimental to the prosperity of the European continent.

A man raised in a system suspicious of the West, will still have some of those feelings. Apparently, with the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia had its feelings hurt in 1989 and is now trying to get over that heartache by asserting itself in Ukraine. What nonsense of analysis. It seems to me, the will of the majority in Ukraine is to align themselves with the West and at some point join the EU. That this bothers Russia is really a problem for Russia and no one else. I mean, if the Ukrainians were happy to be in Russia's orbit, they'd not have rebelled. Even a loan offer from their infinitely more powerful neighbour was not enough to incite them. It seems pretty straightforward, but of course people who like to use words like geopolitics and dominance see things where others don't

" The EU is the new USSR"

For sure, like in the USSR, if you're a Euro-sceptic like Nigel Farage, you're banned from the European parliament, you're sent to prison, you're not allowed to hold rallies and all other restrictions that the USSR implemented on dissidents are carried out. Your stupidity is truly staggering.

The former Czech leader was among the most vocal Eurosceptics among EU heads of state and government, and used this opportunity to again criticize Brussels. He accused the EU because be believes the world and the Czech Republic with it are heading back to an era of central decision-making with suppression of freedoms, as before the fall of communism in 1989.

Vaclav Klaus is right on the money. The EU is the new USSR- a supernational entity, artificially constructed and centrally planned by unelected bureaucrats. The EU suppresses individual freedoms and national sovereignty and is very detrimental to the prosperity of the European continent.

As the EU has taken on more state-like functions, it has seen its share of the global economy dwindle. In the 80s it was at 40%, today 25% in 10 years-15%. The EU has caused nothing but suffering for hundreds of millions of people all over Europe. Klaus is one of the last true patriotic politicians in Europe today.
