Finally the circle closes. The man who said he would withdraw from politics after his mandate expired has finally.... left his party. Hmmm. The door is open but Kostunica never had the heavy lifting to try to create something on his own, so unless other people do the work he won't be forming his own party either.

DSS hasn't really improved its chances much with Raskovic Ivic, who always gives that kind of nun from the 19th century impression. The only normal potential candidate from DSS was that Popovic who was acting president but didn't stand for election. In any case chances were that had Popovic been elected Kostunica would be a back seat driver so...

Meanwhile SNS continues to rule Serbia in almost every sphere, on almost every level - including the media. However, the roots of public discontent have been sown, public worker protests, student protests, serious and legitimate concerns about SNS control and influence over all of the Serbian media etc. The only question is when it will all come crashing down, not if. The problem is that SNS will not attempt to create pluralism and strenghthen institutions, no they are centralising power. This means the next lot will be loathe to increase democracy and the corrupt politics will continue.
Sad state of affairs in Serbia today...

damn.... I rather appreciated his, however unintentional, comedy.

I hope he forms his own party.
