"South Stream must comply with EU laws"

The EU will not interfere in the construction of South Stream through Serbia, "but the pipeline will be put into operation only when it complies with EU laws."

Too late, alternative gas supply pipeline construction already started:

Nabucco is really dead first...second i think that SS can still have a chance but the new norma is "in my house you behave as i want " ... so the ball is in Gazprom side , they only need to say "ok i accept the new rules "...

Maybe. But if the EU really wants to kill South Stream, I think simply offering Nabucco to Serbia might do the trick. Think about it, they cut Russia out and secure favor from Serbia. Two birds, one stone. Romania might protest but they're already in the EU/NATO anyway.

Never be afraid of the dog that yapps, but take great care of the one that does not bark. Brussels is doing a lot of yapping of late.

I do wish these gobshites in Brussels would stop making stuff up. Note the 'official' actually cites EU rules that apply solely to EU member states and pure EU projects, of which Serbia is neither a memeber nor is South Stream an EU project, rather an intra-European project and thus not subject to EU contorsions. Russia has neither ratified the European Energy Convention.

Oettinger is just blowing his horn again as he heads out the door. For someone representing the 'EU rule of law', he seems to have a particularly flexible concept of EU rules and law. In fact, anyone who is not blind, deaf or dumb, let alone dead will know that EU has abused its own laws, the acquis communautaire on multiple massive occaisions by letting countries join the EU even though they do not (and still do not) meet basic EU requirements. The 'EU' simply makes up as it goes along, breaking the rules when they are found to be inconvenient (sic, the Euro bailout).

Meanwhile, I can confirm that the bureaucrats and the bright young euros of the European Parliament are back in their bubble having returned from their expensive holidays all refreshed and tanned, ready for more fun and enjoying the late night cafes and bars whilst the rest of Europe rots away. It's hard to support the EU when you see these people carrying on without a care in the world.
