The Serbian diaspora is fairly large in the US (some estimates put this number to 300000), the catchment area of Belgrade Airport can easily go beyond Serbian borders and finally when you take into account much lower operating costs (cheaper time slots) the calculation seems to add up nicely.
Furthermore there is a chronic issue with the capacity of Western European Airports especially in England (Heathrow presently operates at 99%). The proposed expansion plans face huge opposition mainly due to the environmental impact.
In that regard Belgrade can serve as a hub for Middle Eastern and Asian routes to the USA.
@Bob, your comments about Serbs are generalised and callous.

"Air Serbia plans to introduce direct flights from Belgrade to US"

Doubt it. Not much interest to Americans going to Serbia other than diaspora Serbs visiting home. And Serbs can't afford, let alone get a visa, to visit America. Wishful thinking.

Belgrade can only be a regional hub like any other Eastern European or Balkan capital feeding passengers to major Central and Western European hubs which already have direct flights to USA.

When it comes to comedy class (economy), Air Serbia is by far the best in Europe! Warm meals, metal cutlery and free drinks... Its like flying in the 90s!!!

Managed to fly biz class from London to Belgrade once and was presented a mix grill for dinner! Now that proper bites in the air!

If they serve burek and Sumadija tea on morning flights, I'm sold for ever!!!
