On one hand, a wise decision. To give autonomy to the Donbass Region (with the exception of defense and international representation), would certainly breathe new life into the already dying (if not dead) negotiations and could even lead to a peaceful resolution to the conflict (hopefully). Kiev forces unfortunately are responsible for a lot of damage and death in the region, so the people cannot be expected for things to just go back to before the war. Would be fair... in an ideal world.

Only one problem: the case of Crimea. Crimea technically had such a status quo within the Ukraine and it is now very much a part of Russia (despite the lack of universal recognition), meaning that Russia did not respect the previous status quo ante of the region. Who is to say that they will respect this proposition and not encourage a referendum there in the future? Russia should not even be consulted in the affairs of another sovereign state, but everybody is aware of Russia's intentions towards the Ukraine, so it is very much a viable question.

This is dangerous business, because nobody can state beyond responsible doubt that such a situation won't repeat in Latvia and Estonia, with the large Russian populations that are living there, for example. Moldova has already gone through it as well.

So softly softly Putin wins the next step in peeling away independence from neighbours.

I agree those are complicated land problems in Europe and they have no unique solution. But I believe that people’s will is a dominating factor. If in Lvov instead building fortifications to stop the Russians they vote being back to where they came from I will respect this will. 500 years we lived apart from Galitskaya Rus and we can do it 500 years more. I agree those are complicated land problems in Europe and they have no unique solution. But I believe that people’s will is a dominating factor. If in Lvov instead building fortifications to stop the Russians they vote being back to where they came from I will respect this will. 500 years we lived apart from Galitskaya Rus and we can do it 500 years more. If only They say so and Poles +++ also agree. But Crimea is special also because we saved them from the maniacs.

Comparing KIM and Crimea is not very correct. Because Albanians are the rats that came from outside to the Serbian land. They multiple like rats and behave like rats. Look how we fight for our land and recal how the bastards attracted NATO to steal the saint land. So the comparison is weak. Also if not Serbia they would already undermine other regional states. So Serbia lowered their appetites. But now that the balance of power is changing so fast Serbs may obtain new prospects soon.

I heard of several Poles fighting on our side but the balance is 1:100 … Poles fight us unexpectedly good. Mostly they are professionals. Also hundreds of Russian warriors of the private armies fight us. It is also the truth. Some of them are from the French Foreign Legion some from Blackwaters or Academia. Also many Spaniards , French and other Europeans sides the Russians. To say nothing of the Serbs who are forming a brigade her. Maybe they will later need it in Kosovo.

I am talking from a legal perspective. Yes, Crimea is definitely Russian in every way from a historical/cultural perspective, but if we go by your logic today, then you have Germans claiming half of Poland, Czechia and Lithuania as German land, Hungarians claiming the whole of Slovakia, half of Romania, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia as Hungarian land, Poles claiming Lithuania and half of Ukraine and Belarus as Polish land etc. and you know where that has led Europe in the past, especially with all of them saying that they have "spiritual historical bonds" with that land and "bled for it" etc.

I also believe 100% that Crimea belongs with Russia. Problem is that you have 98% of Kosovo's population "saying so" about independence from Serbia too. When just talking in these terms, what is the difference?

There are also Poles fighting on the side of separatists (one of them a known Polish nationalist). You have volunteers with different viewpoints, hence why there are Poles on both sides (admittedly more on the Ukrainian one), and you have mercenaries doing it for money, which is why you even have Serbs fighting on Kiev's side, where traditional/historical loyalty counts for zero.
