I would've expected Serbia to be ahead of Croatia in military strength.

This index is BS. Croatia in this index is ahead of Greece in military power and this is completly false.

I didn't review "globalfirepower.com" in depth, but it appears the index value is military strength per person rather than total military resources. If this is indeed the case, it would make sense that Croatia is higher than Serbia based on their criteria. However, I agree that Serbia has more military resources (fighter aircraft, tanks, soldiers, potential reserves, etc.) than Croatia. Note that I am Croatian.

Russia has no capacity to do that and never will. It sent 250 soldiers in Kosova and was unable to feed them, and we are both in same continent. Think about this one.

It makes sence that Croatia is way ahead of Serbia. Serbia spends most of its money on old Serbian communist farts pensions. Serbs made 70% of the criminal Yugoslavia communist when they were only 30% of Yugo population. The weaponery of former Yugo that Serbia stole is well over 40 years old. As for the comparison between Serbia and Croatia, I am sure that Serbia has the capacity to be the strongest military power in Central Europe, but I am also equally sure that since the DOS putsch the Serbian armed forces have been decimated. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that Croatia had a larger and better armed forces than Serbia.

Serbia should reintroduce national. Service and begin a massive rearmament programme. As far as is possible it should rely on its own weapons. The world is becoming a very dangerous place. Serbia cannot escape the next World War, so it had better be well prepared for it.

The Serbian government should establish a mandatory physical fitness program for all children male and female begining at age five. The program should include training on personal self defense ( martial arts ) and also when they are 12 years old marksmanship and training on the use of fire arms for sporting target and also defensive for the future safety of the country. Physical fitness should be a life long habit. Japan for centuries dominated Asia and the Pacific, thier children from birth were trained in martial arts and the use of weapons.

Tommy, don't be so naive. America is by far #1 militarily. Just like we don't know what all Russia and China have, we don't know what America has either. They 'officially' spend $600 billion per year on their defense budget, but in reality they spend over $1 trillion per year on their military. That figure alone should tell you that the US has the advantage. The stealth fighter you talk about was shown to the public in 1989, yet developed in the 60's...just nobody knew about it. There are 194 countries in the UN (you know that organization that the organ traffickers aren't allowed to speak at without an invitation from a real country). Serbia is ranked 60 which means it is in the top 1/3 of strongest militarises on the planet.

Now take into account that under the Boris Tadic government, he systematically and purposely did every thing he could to significantly reduce the size of Serbia's military. In an interview he said Serbia will never be in another war again, so why does it need a military? Well a war takes two, and it's called being prepared, Boris.

So being 60th place is kind of a pleasant surprise considering the reduction of Serbia's armed forces. Had this not happened, Serbia would be in the top 50 at least.

it is strange and actually sick how people here are preoccupied with military strength, which always implies dominating other countries and societies, killing or oppressing humans, ruling over others, and war. Arguing if Croatia has more military power than Serbia or any other country only shows a macho behaviour which reflects an infentile minority complex, and a false understanding of values which really count, like humanity, peacefulness, and caring for each other. It all goes back to the the way nationalism is treated all over the Balkans. That ugly virus infected too many people, especially in Serbia.

I would be much more concerned about Serbia's economic strength (or better say: the absence of that)

It always amazes me how little you actually know about economics when you have always claimed to be some financial wizard.
Every action of trade restriction between Russia and the EU hurts Russia as much if not more than the EU or Germany.
You continually claim that if Russia shuts off the oil EU will freeze. Are you so naïve that you do not think that countries in the EU have been stockpiling oil and looking at alternative sources. Would a complete shutdown hurt yes, destroy no. But it would bankrupt the Russian economy. Russia is lucky to have such vast oil reserves but its value is contingent on having a market for it. The Asian market currently is fractional to the EU market and it will be years before that venue to replace income for Russia from the EU market.
The communist days of standing in long lines for staples are gone, Russians have traveled abroad and live a different life now. An attempt to put them back into that time is going to meet huge resistance.
Russian success relies on global trade and shutting those venues down is suicidal.

Serbs seem to not know anything about what BRICS actually is and what it is not. It is not a union of the countries similar to the EU. It is a group of emerging economies (meaning growing economies) that have similar interest and meet before maybe once a year or more but more recently a couple of times a year. They have similar interest(mostly their irritation of not being placed higher in organizations dominated by the west such as the IMF and WB. They recently decided to start their own organization similar to the World Bank, which offers low interest loans to distressed countries. Whether that actually materializes or not is to be seen, as another thing they share in common is their distrust of their associates.
They are not eager to open up membership to countries such as Serbia that remain more charitable states than up and coming economies. The people that would be likely to join would be other states that have established themselves in the growing international market. Germany would actually fit into that category but it is actually very well established in the western power structures.

What's funny is how much I've gotten under some people's skin so deeply that they feel the urge to research me and post the results on this site.

it is strange and actually sick how people here are preoccupied with military strength, which always implies dominating other countries and societies, killing or oppressing humans, ruling over others, and war. Arguing if Croatia has more military power than Serbia or any other country only shows a macho behaviour which reflects an infentile minority complex, and a false understanding of values which really count, like humanity, peacefulness, and caring for each other. It all goes back to the the way nationalism is treated all over the Balkans. That ugly virus infected too many people, especially in Serbia.

There is huge difference between economics and finance; one is theory and the other fact.
The EU only has a couple of months of reserves not years and if it was that easy to obtain oil from other sources they would have put into play years ago not now. For you information China is now the No1 economy in the world even surpassing the US. I strongly recommend that you take time off and travel to Asia – seriously.
The picture you’re painting of the world is akin to sailing past the Golden Gate Bridge and a few Ks then you fall of the end of the world – it’s not true.
What staples are you talking about? Russia can get all the fruits, vegetables, chicken, pork and beef from Asia, India and South America. Poland exports 30% of its fruits to Russia and guess who is going to have to find money to pay compensation? Brussels and there are many more EU members ready to do the same.
Next time you go to Wal Mart spend time in there and see how much is manufactured in the US or EU and perhaps that will give you an idea of how affective those sanction are on Russia. The US and EU borrow money from Asia. The centre of finance is in Asia not EU or UeS; teh GFC saw to that problem.
All of this BS about Russia suffering is for you consumption. I read how Germany makes chemicals used in refining oil and Russia is now banned, but they don’t mention that China makes them as well or oil drilling equipment.

I didn't review "globalfirepower.com" in depth, but it appears the index value is military strength per person rather than total military resources. If this is indeed the case, it would make sense that Croatia is higher than Serbia based on their criteria. However, I agree that Serbia has more military resources (fighter aircraft, tanks, soldiers, potential reserves, etc.) than Croatia. Note that I am Croatian.

Yes, Serbia is not heaven on earth, though I don't believe Kosovo, or Albania, for that matter, rate very high in any of those "good lists" either (living standards, corruption transparency, monthly earnings, purchasing power, employment rates etc.), as a matter of fact, they score even lower than Serbia.

The Serbian government should establish a mandatory physical fitness program for all children male and female begining at age five. The program should include training on personal self defense ( martial arts ) and also when they are 12 years old marksmanship and training on the use of fire arms for sporting target and also defensive for the future safety of the country. Physical fitness should be a life long habit. Japan for centuries dominated Asia and the Pacific, thier children from birth were trained in martial arts and the use of weapons.

Balkan countries should establish JOBS.SOCIAL CARE.FIGHTING THE HATE,POVERTY AND RELIGION EXTREMIZEM, that they should start teaching in schools starting from 5 years old kids so in 25 years you will be able to se changes in Balkan society .. as now Balkan is still vulnerable for any easy ethnic conflict as it was for century's ....cheers..

just to inform you, the german exports to Russia, were 3.5% of its total exports in 2012. A drop in the bucket which will only cause very minor problems if they ever decided to complety cut it off altogether.

Serbs seem to not know anything about what BRICS actually is and what it is not. It is not a union of the countries similar to the EU. It is a group of emerging economies (meaning growing economies) that have similar interest and meet before maybe once a year or more but more recently a couple of times a year. They have similar interest(mostly their irritation of not being placed higher in organizations dominated by the west such as the IMF and WB. They recently decided to start their own organization similar to the World Bank, which offers low interest loans to distressed countries. Whether that actually materializes or not is to be seen, as another thing they share in common is their distrust of their associates.
They are not eager to open up membership to countries such as Serbia that remain more charitable states than up and coming economies. The people that would be likely to join would be other states that have established themselves in the growing international market. Germany would actually fit into that category but it is actually very well established in the western power structures.

It always amazes me how little you actually know about economics when you have always claimed to be some financial wizard.
Every action of trade restriction between Russia and the EU hurts Russia as much if not more than the EU or Germany.
You continually claim that if Russia shuts off the oil EU will freeze. Are you so naïve that you do not think that countries in the EU have been stockpiling oil and looking at alternative sources. Would a complete shutdown hurt yes, destroy no. But it would bankrupt the Russian economy. Russia is lucky to have such vast oil reserves but its value is contingent on having a market for it. The Asian market currently is fractional to the EU market and it will be years before that venue to replace income for Russia from the EU market.
The communist days of standing in long lines for staples are gone, Russians have traveled abroad and live a different life now. An attempt to put them back into that time is going to meet huge resistance.
Russian success relies on global trade and shutting those venues down is suicidal.
