(Ian, UK, 4 September 2014 21:01) stated that " Viktor Yanukovych was democratically impeached."

An impeachment is generally considered an accusation. It is the start of a process to remove an elected official from office. In most democracies with proper due process, an elected official is impeached (accused), tried, and then convicted or acquitted.
Your description of the events in Ukraine truly reflect undemocratic actions that were, in part, orchestrated by US diplomats. Please listen to the leaked phone conversations of Victoria Nuland and the US ambassador to Ukraine that is only a small taste from a rancid menu of US-led provocations and interventions.

And another factor is that people including the police were afraid to do anything about it incase they were labelled "racist" or "anti-Islamic". Political Correctness has gone mad in the UK.

Anyway, at least something is being done about it now. Better late than never.

I'd say that's the only reason.
Yes, you're right, let's wait and see what happens from now on but seriously, years of not doing anything because of fear of hurting their feelings is ridiculous.
So, this fear doesn't go away overnight. I wouldn't hold my breath that UK will clean up it's own act but it's plain to see that UK is so quick to "clean up" someone else's mess. Sorry, I meant to say mess up someone else's country.

"An election was not invalidated, instead Yanukovych was removed from office by the elected representative of Ukraine because he abused his powers. Parliament were well in their right to do so per the Ukranian Constitution."

That is absurd, there was no investigation, there was no conviction, there was no decision of a court or an appeal supporting his Conviction of a crime. Further complicating this, there was no Constitutional Court Review of this impeachment. Impeached one day, chased out by the right sector the next. Railroad justice. Finally don't pretend you have a legal background. Either you are not being earnest, and or you are out of your depth.

oh ian, your maths skills suddenly seem lacking.
in south ossetia since the 1926 census until 2007 census had a roughly 2-1 ratio to georgians. since 2008 it has shifted to 90-5 ratio. your made up reality foiled you again.
abkazia was clearly overrun by georgians and they've taken their lands back: late 19th century census shows a roughly 2-1 abkaz-georgian ratio which quickly changed when the georgian of all georgians, stalin, was in charge reaching its hieghts of imbalance in the late 1980s.
300 years? lol.
and a joseph muller census of metohija's three major counties showed a 3-2 serb-albanian ratio, and peter kukulj counted a roughly 2-1 serb to albanian ratio in the majority of kosovo.
and let us not forget that for 9 years kosovo was a oblast of nato, living and dying by the whim of the worlds military union. someone had to protect kosovo, and someone has to protect south ossetia and abkazia.

The article doesn't mention that fathers had to take matters into their own hands and actually go and try to resucue their children.
On arriving there, police were called and fathers are who got arrested.
How come it took them years to get to do anything?
Great going.
(Peggy, 5 September 2014 12:17)

You're mixing up two different grooming cases here. The fathers of the victims were never arrested in my nearby town unlike the grooming scandal in Rotherham.

As to why it took them years to do something about it in Rotherham, I don't know. The enquiry has just been commissioned and once that has concluded, we will have some answers. I suspect the reasons why nothing was done about it is because some people in Rotherham Council abused their positions and power to protect their 'friends' who were committing such horrible crimes. These horrible men would purposely get these poor girls addicted to drugs so that they would return to them. This made it very had for the police to make arrests as the girls would end up defending the groomers as they required them to feed their addiction. It is a very complex situation. And another factor is that people including the police were afraid to do anything about it incase they were labelled "racist" or "anti-Islamic". Political Correctness has gone mad in the UK.

Anyway, at least something is being done about it now. Better late than never.

"...Russia is trying to force a sovereign state to give up its rights and to determine its future path at gunpoint."

For sure. Russia wants guarantees that Ukraine will be non-aligned, but, why does Ukraine owe that to Russia? If the Ukrainians want to be part of the Western sphere of influence, then what is Russia's problem? Its their country, let them decide for themselves.

Ian, you don't know what Impeach means do you? It means they accused and charged him, it does not mean they invalidated, or could invalidate the election. But maybe you did know what Impeach means, and pretended not to just to win an argument?
(marKo, 5 September 2014 01:33)

Impeachment means to call into question the integrity/ validity/ practice, in this instance Yanukovych was impeached for the unlawful abuse of power. The impeachment was backed by 328 out of 449 democratically elected MPs. But Amnesty Yugoslavia seems to think his impeachment was "undemocratic" despite the vast majority of elected MPs supporting it. An election was not invalidated, instead Yanukovych was removed from office by the elected representative of Ukraine because he abused his powers. Parliament were well in their right to do so per the Ukranian Constitution.

Yes, we are doing things about Islamic Extremists in the UK who going off to Syria and Iraq to fight for the so-called 'Islamic State'. Many arrests have been made lately and the Government has passed a new law giving the Police and other Authourites temporary powers to revoke the passports of people who they suspect of going to/ gone to Iraq and Syria to fight for IS. We've also been revoking citizenship too of people who've been fighting for IS, some have even been made Stateless; I say let them rot in their Jihadi phantasy land.

As to Cameron doing 'nothing' about Pakistanis grooming women in the UK, here is an article from my local newspaper 3/4 days ago (depending on time zone): http://www.keighleynews.co.uk/news/11444670.28_men_arrested_in_Keighley_grooming_gang_probe/

The newspaper is trying to be 'politically correct' by not mentioning their ethnicty or religion, but I can assure you that they're Pakistani Muslims as this was confirmed by BBC Radio Leeds.

Thank you for biting the bullet. I've been waiting for someone to compare Abkhazia and South Ossetia to Kosovo. The main difference is Albanians have pretty much always been the majority population in Kosovo for at least the last 300 years or so, whereas in Abkazia and South Ossetia, Abkhazs and Ossetians have only been the majority since the Russian forced the Georgians out in the early 90s; then they finished what they started in 2008. If the Georgians retuned, they would form a majority in both, therefore in a independence referendum in both, a yes vote would not succeed.

Also Abkhazia and South Ossetia are not independent, they're de facto autonomous oblasts under Russian Occupation. This is why there have been several notable anti-Russia protests in Abkhazia since 2008 because even the Abkhazians don't believe they're truly independent, they're just ruled by Putin's corrupt puppets.

NB: I would actually support the independence of a truly independent Abkhazia and I would support the independence of Ossetia (North & South) but Putin doesn't care about them, he wants them both under his thumb as well as to punish Georgia for not being pro-Russian.

Mr Cameron, you should concentrate on protecting your own citizens first and fight jihad on your own soil before you stick you nose where it doesn't belong.
Thousands of girls have been systematically raped by Pakistanis in your own country and you do NOTHING about it. It has been going on for years but your police ave too scared to even go there and resue them. You should fight this horror at home. Save your children Mr. Cameron and maybe you will have some credibility.
What's the matter, your jihadists in Iraq and Syria are not playing by your rules any longer. Did you expect them to? You helped them get the upper hand there and now they are out of control. If it wasn't for the poor Christians and other minorities there I would have a real good laugh right now.

Just like Kosovo back in 1999 here we go again. USA, Germany and England getting involved where they don't belong. The situation in Russia and Ukrainia is serious but no need to turn it into a catostropic tragedy. The USA, England and Germany have enough problems to try and resolve within their own territories, better they concentrate resolving their serious financial and social internal issues before they go out and molest other governments of the world. The West has turned it's face from God, Serbia faces East to pray, God will be on the side of the rightious.

Amnesty Yugoslavia:

"Their words are not consistent with their deeds. Fact: Ukraine's elected president was removed by undemocratic means."

Incorrect. Viktor Yanukovych was democratically impeached. It was put to a vote in the Ukrainian parliament on 22 February and 328 out of 449 democratically elected MPs voted in favour to impeach him, even MPs from his own Party of Regions voted in favour to impeach him.

"Russian interference was preceded by the US led effort of Victoria Nuland (US Asst Sec of State) to overthrow a democratically elected government."

The Government wasn't overthrown, the cabinet resigned and the President was impeached.

"If the US and UK were so concerned about democracy, why didn't they support a peaceful transition of power and why do they continue to drive a military and violent agenda in Kiev?"

They did support a peaceful process, but Yanukovych fought tooth and nail to stay in power by any means and aggressively cracked down on peaceful protesters. The UK and US are supporting the Ukraine military now because Russia militarily annexed Crimea and now Russia has destablised the east of the country by engineering an attempted succession using fifth columnists with fancy Russian military toys. Russia has destablised their weaker smaller neighbour and are now complaining that Ukraine isn't stable.

I can't recall a threat or a head being removed from any American by a Russian. This need to demonize Russia is the dumbest long term politcal move Cookie and Bozo could invent. Baseless and stupid for all. Russia is not the threat to the world, for I'd live under Russian rule anyday than under those islamic nazi's.

The true solution to what is threating us all is so obvious, but America leaders are currently as useless as the pimple on the ass of progress. President of American, whoever current or future moron is, travel to Moscow. Hug it out with President of Russia...travel to Beijing..hug it out with Chinese leadership which owns the USA as well. Let all past greivences be dismissed, without condition...from this moment forward, we are partners of the world. America, deploy 200,000 combat troops in Isreal, and another 200,000 in Turkey. Russia, move 500,000 troops onto the borders of Afgnistan. China, deploy 1,000,000 on Pakistan Border with another 500,000 support Troops from India. When the Olympic gun goes off, invade he Middle East from all fronts and meet in center. I think the debate on the comments has strayed a little from the topic this particular news piece is presenting. Regardless what you think about Obama and Cameron, do you really think Russia in NOT invading Ukraine? Do you really think that IS/ISIS/ISIL is doing good deeds in Iraq and Syria? Now, I think someone should stop ex KGB officer Putin and those lunatic militants. There is no doubt in my mind that whatever US or UK do, do it for their own interests, but that is not so bad when you get to save Europe from the renovated communist threat and maybe, i am saying maybe, Middle East from the IS (though I guess they will find other ways to kill each other). Now, I do understand that some Balkaners here are angry because they don't get to have the control they used to have on the region, but that's how history goes. Italians are not angry they don't control half of the world like Rome used to do. Also, in some of the comments I noticed that: Serbs have endured ethnic cleansing??? Jeez, I got to throw away all the history books I have read! But, as some here would say, for sure the books I read have been published by Obama or Cameron Inc. :-)

Hundreds of thousands of Albanians who left Kosovo from the 60s to 90s to countries like Germany (300,000 KAlbs) & Switzerland. (200,000 KAlbs). Most of the 800,000 Albanians who left Kosovo in the 90s have returned.

In Communist times, moving from one part of Yugoslavia to another didn't constitute as ethnic cleansing. Nor did Selling your house in impoverished Kosovo to an Albanian for lots of money and buying a larger and cheaper house in a more economically sound area in Serbia. No one forced them to sell up. One has to bare in mind that many Serbs who left Kosovo and Yugoslavia as a whole, did so in the 70s and 80s, this was directly related to the decline/ collapse of the Yugoslav Economy.

Now if you want to talk about real crude ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, go back to just after WW1 until 1921. Kosovo's Albanian population reduced from around 1 million to 444,000. In 1935 Yugoslavia signed a treaty with Turkey to deport 200,000 Albanians from Kosovo. They signed another treaty in 1938 to deport a further 40,000 Albanian families. These mass deportations to Turkey never materialised due to WW2 and Tito cancelled them once he came to power.

There is only evidence that 40,000 Albanians came to Kosovo from Albanian after WW2, this fits in with census figures too; however most of the Albanians who came to Kosovo shortly after WW2 were the descendents of Albanians who had been expelled from Kosovo shortly after WW1.

250,000 Serbs were ethnically cleansed from Serbia were they? That isn't mathematically possible. The Serb population of Kosovo was 194,190 in 1991. Please explain how 250,000 Serbs were ethnically cleansed from Kosovo if there weren't even 250,000 Serbs to begin with and there are still 140,000 Serbs in Kosovo today. I smell BS!
(Ian, UK, 4 September 2014 11:11)

By 1991, Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija had already went through over 40 years of ethnic cleansing during Communist Yugoslavia. Kosovo-Metohija was given a special territorial status within Serbia that allowed it to manage its own budget. Kosovo-metohija was also the poorest region in the country, so much of the national budget went to develop this impoverished territory.

..Only problem is that the provincial government that was managed by the Albanians used that money not to develop Kosovo-Metohija but to use it to bring over their cousins from Stalinist Albania.

So the 194, 000 was after decades of ethnic cleansing and cultural genocide. Meanwhile the number of Albanians living on Kosovo-Metohija has only increased despite the claim that it was Serbia committing "ethnic cleansing". It can't be ethnic cleansing if the population isn't being cleansed and instead increasing in size.

An annexation is where a country takes territory from another country and incorporates it as their own territory. Russia is the only country that thinks this acceptable in the 21st century having aggressively annexed land from both Georgia and Ukraine a bit like Nazi Germany did to their weaker smaller neighbours. :-)

That is absurd, there was no investigation, there was no conviction, there was no decision of a court or an appeal supporting his Conviction of a crime. Further complicating this, there was no Constitutional Court Review of this impeachment. Impeached one day, chased out by the right sector the next. Railroad justice.

What about the illegal annexation of kosovo to albanian terrorists and organ traffickers? What about the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia? (So sad, too bad, 4 September 2014 10:27)

A territory cannot Annex itself. No one annexed Kosovo, the inhabitants of Kosovo declared independence. An annexation is where a country takes territory from another country and incorporates it as their own territory. Russia is the only country that thinks this acceptable in the 21st century having aggressively annexed land from both Georgia and Ukraine a bit like Nazi Germany did to their weaker smaller neighbours. And now Russia is threatening to conquer Ukraine in two weeks, a bit like how Nazi Germany quickly conquered Poland (with Stalin's help).

The UK and US respect and support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia.

Ian, UK

pre 9 godina

(Ari Gold, 4 September 2014 12:51)

How come it took them years to get to do anything?
Great going.
