When genetic Russophobes begin to advice to Serbs it always sounds false. This year Russia offered the USA to arrange military competition between S-400 and their latest Patriots and between their F 22 and SU 35. Americans refused as they knew that we will beat them in every component be it in the air or in the sea or on the soil. Now think about it POLAND BECAME PRODESSIONAL SUCKER OF THOSE WHO FEAR THE RUSSIANS ALL OVER THE GLOBE ... You delegated your independence overseas and you deployed their rockets on the german lands that the USSR have granted to you. Almost 90% ( 600 00) of those who were killed during setting you free from the Nazi slavery were Russians and only 11% (123 000) and now tell us how many our monuments were destroyed lately to lick the Yankees ... Then tell us about Captain Closs tales and MIGs ... And I'll remind you about the Poles in WW2 :

500 000 in Wehrmacht
200 000 in Reserve Corp in Scotland
130 000 in Corp of Anders in Palestine and Egypt
380 000 in Armiia Kraiowa (with your granpa) that little bothered the Nazi
90 000 in Voisko Polskoe, USSR
32 000 in Armia Ljudowe, NKVD SSSR
62 000 as Prisoners of war in USSR

That cold shower was really refreshing and it helps me think more clearly. Now what it has help me see is that a country the size of Serbia that is potentially months from bankruptcy, would be wiser to make plans and expenditures on things that would help boost their economy, than a dream of becoming a stronger military power that has NATO on all its borders.
Unless it becomes aggressors again, it does not need the defense aspect in the near future, and if it wants them for an offensive operation in the middle of NATO's front yard they are simply being suicidal. But again if you need a donation of a battery in order to get your outdated and probably unsafe aircraft in the air, plans to buy more advanced jets is really only a pipedream.

Perhaps a cold shower would do you a favour before replying to me. ;)

I am well aware of what is written in the article and stated explicitly that Serbia should map out a plan (over a period of several years) to modernize its airforce, not immediately shell out money for 10 4th generation fighters. It would save Serbia on maintenance and operating costs to scrap these old Migs in order to free up space in the annual defence expenditure over a period of several years, which would help in the long run in the purchase of something more modern. This is something Romania did, for example (in 2003), which has helped them with the procurement of F-16's from Portugal (second hand, but nonetheless, more advanced than their fleet of Soviet-era Mig-29's), or even Albania, which while their air force does not exist, they are not shelling out money on maintaining and operating their commie-era Chinese and Soviet pieces of junk and will be able to save up in part for something more state-of-the-art.

Serbia should really send its best and brightest to study, train and work in Russia. Serbian immigrants did so much for the west and all it did was set-up wars and brutally attack their ethnic kin in the Balkans.
(ida, 3 September 2014 02:28)

But many of them did dear, during the Olympic Games construction works in Sochi. And when it was time to get paid, they were kicked out of there. I know, they probably were not the best and brightest, they were construction workers, but they were family men nonetheless. They were not very happy I must say.

A very humorous post indeed. You spend the first paragraph speaking of how the Serbian planes are obsolete and they should update to the newer more efficient varieties totally clueless to the article saying these outdated migs are flying today solely because of Russian DONATION of batteries. If Serbia cannot afford to purchase batteries, how in he.. could they afford to spend the necessary billions to upgrade to newer jets???
And then to add further humor you attempt to poke fun at "Albanians" for doing exactly what you did. Maybe a second cup of coffee in the morning before you start to post may help.

Peter Sudyka

pre 9 godina

It would be wise to scrap these planes, save on maintenance costs and map out a replacement aircraft in future. Mig-29's are simply obsolete and stand no chance on the modern battlefield. Even just up to 10 Eurofighters, Gripens, F-16D Block 40, F-18 or (if they want to stay with Eastern technologies), Mig-35 or J-10 is what Serbia should probably be looking into, not keeping these museum pieces alive.

I see a lot of Albanian users poking fun at Serbia's air force. We all know very well that Albania's air force is equipped with state-of-the-art American and European multirole fighters, stealth bombers, drones, strategic bombers, gunships etc., but give the Serbs a chance to get back on their feet. Not everyone in the Balkans is a massive economic and military success story like Albania is. ;)

I figured I would provide everyone with the lyrics to Kenny Loggins song "Danger Zone". I wonder if there is a Turbo Folk version? LOL!

Revvin' up your engine
Listen to her howlin' roar
Metal under tension
Beggin' you to touch and go

Highway to the Danger Zone
Ride into the Danger Zone

Headin' into twilight
Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the deck
And shovin' into overdrive

Highway to the Danger Zone
I'll take you
Right into the Danger Zone

They never say hello to you
Until you get it on the red line overload
You'll never know what you can do
Until you get it up as high as you can go

Out along the edge
Is always where I burn to be
The further on the edge
The hotter the intensity

Highway to the Danger Zone
I'm gonna take you
Right into the Danger Zone
Highway to the Danger Zone
Right into the Danger Zone

The only place those antique MIGs are going is to hardened bunkers in Serbia, never to see the light of day again. Otherwise, they risk being shot down as were other Serb jets, back in the 1999 war with NATO. It would be best to leave flying those museum relics to competent pilots absent in Serbia.

As a third world country Serbia should follow the cut the coat to suit your cloth policy. Lashing out on new jets would be extravagant and unnecessary as not enough money could be spent on pilot training and relevant support. For Serbia's needs a squadron of overhauled Lancers would do the job.

Yeah, like we're going to listen to anti-Serb albanians' advice. Listen troll, those jets are going to be used on your KLA organ snatchers in the future, so just shut up and enjoy your temporary NATO occupation, it won't last forever :) .

If Serbia was smart they would save taxpayer money and stop buying and maintaining these stupid aircraft that have no chance whatsoever in real battle. If Serbia was smart they would become part of an alliance with Russia and hire the Russians as an outsourced Air Force. Kosova did just that and it worked and works brilliantly. Rewind to 1999! Mount Pastrik! LOL!!
