Another thing to consider, if South Stream is delayed, the EU may suffer power cuts before the pipeline is completed. The sooner work begins the better for the EU.

Really Michael, you must consult sj or rote before coming up with such a specious argument The South Stream pipeline is dead. Only Serbia is willing to attempt to save face by continuing work on the S.S, in spite of loosing money it can't afford to waste. Don't forget, Europe did just fine before Russia even realized it had gas and oil. Also, even a temporary cash flow problem for Russia will prove devastating. Why else is Putin panicking as evidenced by his hopeless aggression toward Ukraine.

How did Russian gas get to the EU before South Stream? Hopefully nations will get smart, and invest in renewable, the more the better, the sooner the better. And let the Russians keep their gas.

The good thing about gas is that it can sit in the ground until it is needed. It doesn't go bad if not used. If the EU refuses to buy more Russian gas today, then this presents Russia with nothing more than a temporary cash flow problem, because the EU has no other choice than to buy Russian gas, and what is not bought today will be bought tomorrow.

It is the EU countries that have the real problem. If the Indians and Chinese buy more Russian gas, then there may not be enough left to supply Europe through South Stream. Another thing to consider, if South Stream is delayed, the EU may suffer power cuts before the pipeline is completed. The sooner work begins the better for the EU.

Usual Russian "disinformazia" .. the so called "plan B" is totally non sense because in Greece there are the same problem as in Bulgary regarding the rules of law of EU..So Gazprom can't avoid with a different route ..the only way for SS is that Russian say yes to what Brussels ask ...plain and simple
