If Serbia had a way to create jobs and develop its economy without the EU, I'm sure it would have done so long ago. Even without the devastation of war and sanctions Serbia's economy would still have struggled post communism, given the mentality of that part of Europe. As a Briton born in England, I can assure you there are many aspects of the EU that I can't stand, the much abused human rights act is one of them. We're awash with foreign criminals we can't get rid of, when we have enough of our own to deal with. The EC was originally designed to keep the peace in Europe and primarily keep Germany under control. Well now Germany controls Europe. The rest of us may not like that, but it's a fact. We constantly speak of this emotional attachment to Russia, but wasn't it the Red army that gave Belgrade to Tito's partisans. The same applies to the Americans. They couldn't care less about the Albanians. Occupying Kosovo suited their strategic interests. The people of Kosovo aren't free or independent. If the West pulled out it would collapse tomorrow. I'm afraid the powerful always get what they want in the end. The small people do as they're told.

It has always amazed me on this site the number of Serbs who have left Serbia for a better life for them and their families, who believe the ones who were left behind should live a life of destitution in order to maintain the "Serbian Pride".
It is up there with the ones who have built a life in the west(notice you do not see Serbs who emigrated to Russia posting here) and would never consider moving their children to Russia from say Australia or Berlin, and yet they constantly want to drive Serbia and its people away from their successful life toward Russia.

Because there is an enormous number of the unemployed in Serbia that would kill to get a job, even one with a low wage. Remember, you can't eat pride!

why does serbia still want to be part of the EU? so many members are doubting the value of being a member and some even talk of leaving it. the EU is a welfare program for eastern european nations and in exchange the nation becomes a market for cheap labor and is stripped of any power and identity
