I guess Haradinaj can expect similar or more compensation since he was and acquitted and then rearrested and acquitted again!
Of course you would have deduct the convictions for contempt from anything he thinks he deserves.

Calm down, dear! He has already been found guilty of crimes, more than once, and received prison sentences for them.

If you're talking about contempt of court then he has already served that and BTW, it wans't eleven years.

So by your legal standards should he be convicted, would that mean those who have supported this criminal also face justice??

Yes, the ICTY has flagrantly violated all acceptable legal norms in this case. Monetary damages are appropriate and normal in such a case. In addition those who have defamed Dr. Seselj knowingly should face justice.

Even the NATO "court" admitted it was wrong to do that. There is nothing to justify this case taking 11.5 years and we still don't have a verdict. Well, except that this is not a court but a farce created by NATO and western powers.
(Zoran, 4 July 2014 00:07)

Just a small correction... according to the UN, which Serbs love so much, the Court was proposed by Russia, approved by Russia and these judges who are doing this "injustice" to this guy are approved by Russia. So, this being a Russia Court, please feel free to bring this "injustice" to Russia's attention and I'm sure that Russia will address it immediately since, according to the most patriotic of Serbs, Russia is Serbia's best friend.

So just because he does not recognize their authority we are suppose to have sympathy for him. We have criminals in the US daily who claim they do not recognize the authority of the court. I find no reason to side with them and definitely no reason to respect them.
If you remember the fiasco of Jeremic and co. when he thought by having a debate on the ICTY at the UN people would line up and discredit the court only to listen to country after country to sing its praises and Serbia was alone. It has only been shown for what it is as you say to the people who did not recognize the court in the first place. It seems the only people who call it a kangaroo court are the supporters of the guilty, which is also common throughout the years, very rare to find a guilty person say he got justice.
My condemnation of the court is in it let this travesty go on too long. They should never have allowed his shenanigens to paralyze justice.
You try seeing things from an objective perspective not one of every Serb is innocent.

I can't say I like Šešelj in any way... I think he's a narcissistic monster and a direct danger to anybody who likes to just live in peace. However, he does have a point here. No matter how bad Šešelj may be, that doesn't give the ICTY any rights to treat him unlawfully.

Being locked up between 2003 and 2007 isn't what I would call an example of anybody's right to a fair and speedy trial. Of course there are rationalization for why it took so long to start the trial and why the it's already taking 7 years. But it's not a valid argument to deprive anybody (even Šešelj) of the rights they have according to the law. If somebody has an issue with those rights, the only valid way is to change the law, not ignoring the law. The latter is in fact selective justice, which isn't a state of law but in fact tyranny.

I would not like to see Šešelj get away clean, especially not as a rich man. But if that happens it's something the ICTY and its supporters have primarily themselves to blame for. Sadly the ICTY has already on several occasions proven to be more of a politically motivated tool in favor of the “good guys” than that it really is dealing with serving justice to those guilty of war crimes. That is a very sad reality, for it essentially means that international (criminal) justice does not exists.

Not that this will be any surprise to anybody who has witnessed the USA and their NATO partners getting away with numerous war crimes for decades.

First you excuse his tactics which is what caused the delays and then you turn around and say you have sympathy because after 11 years a decision has not been made. You have sympathy for him for what he has done.

Even if the Hague wanted to let this war criminal loose, the powers at be in Beograd would never allow it. Why would Nikolic and Vucic allow their political careers to be destroyed by this monster. Serbia wont allow it nor will the E.U. The balkans don't want another war because of one mans fascist ideology of a Greater Serbia. This man if you could call him that will rot in jail for the rest of his life..Thank god !

Dirty Chetnik, he wants to be compensated for instigating mass murder not seen since WW2! Its very difficult to find individuals with his talent these days, and I guess he thinks he should receive payment for his unforgettable deeds? Funny they way some people think?

You mean the ethnic genocide of Serbs, Roma and Gypsies by Croatian Ustase, Bosnian Muslim SS Handzar and SS Skenderbeg made up of Albanians?!?!

Yes the years add up, but let's not forget it was due to witness intimidation. and don't forget the years of dicking about with the court.Don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Why should the law not be equal for all? Tell us. He's been in jail for so long without being found guilty. Who gets that long for nothing?
(Peggy, 3 July 2014 22:57)

Calm down, dear! He has already been found guilty of crimes, more than once, and received prison sentences for them.

poetic justice

Hopefully he will be released back to Serbia, he has enough of a following to split the SNS and wreck the govt, but not enough support to actually take control. And if he did it would only be a blessing for the rest of the world as Serbia would totally isolate itself.

Serbia should be compensated too because it didn't have a robust opposition for this long and it's going to cost.

Was wondering who would be the first to pull out the "eternal victim card" that all Serbs seem to carry in their pocket.

For goodness sake they tried and let go the real murders Oric and Gotovina in less time.
(Mia, 4 July 2014 05:35)
I wonder how many lawsuits they filed to delay their case?? How many times they had to separately be tried for contempt because they released the confidential names of witnesses against them? Also I do not remember a bypass but actual illnesses were a minor delay.

Think- it was a court he didn't recognise for obvious reasons. A kangaroo court with a political agenda. If he had done as you say, he would be accepting it's legitimacy, something impossible. Try seeing things from an objective perspective.
They have nothing on him, and have been found out for what they are . A gravy train for second rate judges and lawyers. And I have no sympathy for him either, except that after 11 years, some decision should and could have been made.

They are hoping this man will just disappear, but to kill him now would be a grave mistake because even the dumb dumbs in Washington would not attempt it.

If what you say has any veracity, then I am willing to wager that the real reason for a release is that your current govt will prevent him from upsetting their empire, at any cost!

He's already humiliated the anti-Serbian lynch mob at the Hague. They have nothing on him. Nothing. Does anyone?

But where does he take a lawsuit? What court hears it?

Peggy

pre 9 godina

He has been a master of manipulating the system and this is just another example.
========================
Regardless, even if you're right, they still had all these years to convict him of something. Why haven't they? Because he is INNOCENT.
They've been keeping an innocent man behind bars and have robbed him of a huge chunk of his life. He has every right to get compensated.
Serbia should be compensated too because it didn't have a robust opposition for this long and it's going to cost.

So by your legal standards should he be convicted, would that mean those who have supported this criminal also face justice??

I guess Haradinaj can expect similar or more compensation since he was and acquitted and then rearrested and acquitted again!
Of course you would have deduct the convictions for contempt from anything he thinks he deserves.

The world has much to learn from albanian justice. It was a mistake for other countries to give up the medieval blood feud system which fortunately still exists in Albania,Kosovo and Macedonia.

Zoran

Actually no you are wrong. 90% of the delays in his case have been self caused. Anything from frivolous lawsuits, delays for depression, hunger strikes, medical illnesses, contempt procedings etc, etc, etc.

LOL! Where do people get this BS from?

The prosecution ended their case 4.5 years ago. He decided not to put up a defence. If he wanted to delay the case, we could still be hearing it. He went on hunger strike as he was denied the right to defend himself. Even the NATO "court" admitted it was wrong to do that. There is nothing to justify this case taking 11.5 years and we still don't have a verdict. Well, except that this is not a court but a farce created by NATO and western powers.

Seselj has done a great job exposing it. Well done to him.

This mysterious verdict that’s been around for 2 years is laughable and that is the reason they will not hand it down.
The proposed release of Seselj is a cover up just to get rid of him under the pretext of him signing up to certain conditions, which are also a joke. They are hoping this man will just disappear, but to kill him now would be a grave mistake because even the dumb dumbs in Washington would not attempt it.

Yes it is unbelievable he got sick, had a by pas got cancer got depressed after being locked away for 12 years for nothing (otherwise they would have already proved their case) For goodness sake they tried and let go the real murders Oric and Gotovina in less time.

Please Explain

"He decided not to put up a defence.... he was denied the right to defend himself."

These statements in one post seem in direct opposition to each other. Which is true that he decided not to put up a defense or that he was denied the right to defend himself...or was he denied a right to defend himself BY himself. That would be grounds for a defense of a different type right there.

He has exposed "it" to only those who did not want the court to begin with and those followers who are too blind to see the manipulations as they are. You are doomed to never see the truth. The same people who continue to call it a NATO court, although the judges are from a variety of countries including the most anti-NATO ones. You have chosen to prejudge and have held with it.

Dr. Jonathan Levy

If you're talking about contempt of court then he has already served that and BTW, it wans't eleven years.
