As an Englishman living in Belgrade I am totally confused by the degree of negativity directed towards this project. It is such a positive project. Huge investment, huge faith in the investment potential of Serbia, massive potential to improve the image of Belgrade to the outside world be it tourists or potential business partners. On top of this it will generate jobs for local workers, it will generate much needed spending in the local economy and who can argue that the approach to Belgrade over Branko's bridge doesn't desperately need a major facelift? This is a wonderful city full of wonderfully friendly people. Why wouldn't you want to encourage a project that will have such a positive impact on an already very positive city?

I thought Serbs hate Muslims and all wars in Balkans were fought against them and now you are happy to accept their money.
i don't know what Iriney has to say about that..
Typical Serbian hypocrisy

Serbs never hated Muslims. They were against others stealing their land. You have all wrong in your mind.

Do you know what Serbia will be with all those useless credits and a ticket for the sinking EU ship?
Something close to the toilet of history...

It would be a good thing for Belgrade if this project really will be build, but please try and learn from other cities that have gone through similar urban development processes.
Don't trust all these developers unconditionally and believe all these wonderful promises they and some politicans make. They will only build what they actually can sell at a profit at the end. The project will have to be financed. This UA development company will not use their cash reserves for it, and in order to get a bank to finace it, at least 1/3 of the space will have to be sold or rented. This will most likely be high price real estate and office space. I do not know, but is there really a market for a project of that size ? Can people pay these high prices, can companies pay the high rents? I live in a metropoletan area which has seen so many ideas for skyscraper developments come and go, and I can tell you, that at least 40% never will be build. Even in case the project would be build as planned, it will have an impact on rents and office space prices elsewhere in the city. They will go up. The other thing which makes me wonder is, that only a foreign investor is involved in it. It would be better if a domestic investor would at least be part of that project as well. My advice can only be, look, at other European cities, and see how they do it, and don't trust promises made by politicians or developers.

And all this without participation of Serb architects or the consultation of the people. Serbia allows foreigners to dictate their city skyline. And there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Build even more shopping malls while the existing ones are already empty,
Build even more office buildings while the existing ones are empty or becoming ruins before ever being completed.
Build even more high class hotels which will never open their doors and only serve real estate speculation.
Build more high class housing next to the Danube, while the existing ones are flooded or empty because people can't pay such high rents.
Recruite more high class councelors, for free,or not, like Dominique Strauss Kahn, Tony Blair, or, why not, Conchita Wurst.
Give away the last resting pretentions on national sovereignty on Kosovo, Voivodina or anything else.
Change your labor laws for to reduce you people to slavery and sell all of your assets as soon as there is any buyer showing up.
Accept GMO's and submit unconditionally to US hegemonony
and eventually, in 20 years you will obtain the label "EU-ready"
which will lead you precisely...
NOWHERE!

I think these projects in Belgrade actually show a spark of imagination, and national pride. If completed properly it will attract investment, enhance business and bolster the tourist trade. Hopefully the Belgrade leadership will have the foresight to attempt similiar projects in the neglected and rural areas of Serbia.

By doing this, we give the world a glimpse into the potential of Serbia and the talent and the creativity of its citizens.

One step forward no steps back-good luck Serbia!

Nothing wrong with this in theory. But is this gov'ts plan to further modernize Belgrade while the rest of Serbia continues to be forgotten and neglected? I know Dubai is helping Serbia a lot with this new investment (and God knows they did a good job with Air Serbia), but is that waht Vucic wants? For Belgrade to become what Dubai is to the UAE? One huge center surrounded by absolutely nothing? Well that works for them because the region is a desert anyway, but in Serbia people live in Valjevo, Leskovac, Sombor etc. What about them?

Well sad, MikeD

The National Museum has been shut since the Western Putsch toppled President Milosevic. This is all part of the Western plan to destroy nations and cultures. The National Museum is the protector of history and culture and so is the enemy of the West. Don't expect it to open anytime soon.
