Look at the wording. Merkel mentions explicitely 'existing' criteria, so there will be no additional conditions for Serbia, including recognizing Kosovo.

She not need to mention it. 100% of Serbia's work toward the EU has been based on a Serbia sans Kosovo, recognition is not a prerequisite but only the realization that Kosovo is not a part of Serbia.
That message has already been received and accepted as Nikolic speech showed at the UNSC.
Once you get through all the begging for money. Between the requests for money to help with the overinflated costs of flood damage and that although Serbia was not asking for monetary reparations for damages incurred by the bombing campaign but that it was still owed to them, the message that Serbia was for sale could not have been bigger than if it was listed on ebay.
But in the end he concluded with the following quote.
"Instead of living in the past and making mutual recriminations, it is time to reach a sustainable solution for the future of the two nations. Our hand is reached out to touch the other side."
He also said that any deals between the EU and Kosovo independent of Serbia reflected badly on the EU but there was NO WAY for Serbia to stop them.
Pretty much believe that fulfills any real demands of the EU, of course there will be assurances made that Serbia will NOT stand in the way of Kosovo's road to the EU.

After cleaning the field in Ukraine Frau Merkel will have another EU candidate. Very democratic and western minded. No matter if they stay on the road and rob the transit routes coz they use the stolen money against Russia and it’s supporters.

As soon as Serbia demonstrates the Ukrainian or Albanian or Montenegrin level of loyalty to the western values it will have a chance. But if the things in EU run the way they do in a couple of years it will be Serbia’s turn to put terms.

You are living a fantasy, my friend. I know what you want, you want Serbia to be modernized. That's a good thing to want, but Serbia will not achieve this while taking this path "towards" the EU. I say path because it's a destination that Serbia will never actually arrive at.

The EU is fundamentally changing itself right now. While Germany and Merkel maybe require the EU to grow in size, the UK and other northern European countries are adamant of seeing an end to new members for at least a decade. The UK itself will probably leave the EU before any country actually enters it.

And now with Croatia a member.... remember, all it takes is for one member to veto Serbia's membership for one reason or another and that's it. Western European countries might even hide behind Croatia vetoing Serbia as the reason why it can't join the EU.

And before you get Croatia's yes, Serbia will be required to at the very least give all the territory that Croatia occupied as a Nazi client state in WWII, as well as recognize the war in the 90s as an act of aggression on Croatia.

You really need to understand that EU membership for Serbia is the most far-fetched idea out there right now.

"Taking a look at the history, we can tell that such changes are acceptable, while certain changes are slow. It is important that Serbia wants to take the EU pathway, and there will be peace in the Western Balkans only if there is a European perspective,"

You better take a look at history madam Merkel. The EUSSR, which Merkel controls, was born in the Nazi Party. The first EUSSR Commission president was a man named Walter Hallstein, who was a top flight lawyer and recruiter for the Nazi Party. It has been controlled by fascists ever since, and it is no surprise that a fascist wants to control it now (Junker). The EU is a new Soviet Union (under German control) in the making - and threatens to become the 4th Reich.Der Spiegel recently reported the German foreign minister as hoping for a 'European Army'. We can only imagine Euroshock troops scuttling around the continent crushing the last vestiges of national spirit and democracy.

Mrs Merkel is all charisma, she let's the Serbs know that this is a slow process, in which Serbia will evolve & also have to come to terms with the reality of a independent Kosova! No rush here, just making sure that everyone is going in the right direction, making sure everyone puts their signatures on the dotted line, that's all that the EU is requesting!!!

Merkel underlined that Berlin was "not against the EU enlargement," stressing that Germany was "only insisting of fulfillment of the existing EU membership criteria."
