Due to the oppression the Kosovo Albanians suffered from 1960s-90s, there are many Kosovo Albanians (and their descendents) outside of Kosovo. There are 300,000 in Germany, 200,000 in Switzerland, 100,000 in Macedonia, 50,000 in Sweden ect.
(Ian, UK, 3 June 2014 12:09)

Yeah "oppression". Liberal language laws, their own university, positive job discrimination, and a safe haven from Hoxha's tyranny in Albanian next door. All that and they still complain like the spoiled welfare babies Europe knows them to be. Those that fled this "oppression" can stay in Germany, Switzerland, and anywhere else they migrated to. Let them blight other communities for a change. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 - 15 years they'll start pushing the idea that Munich was ancient Illyrian territory and launch a campaign of overbreeding to chase out the "invading" population.

...I think so, too. Means elections ballots will be faked, voters threated, votes will be bought, results manipulated, many voters will vote twice or three times, and crime minister Thaci's candidate will be be voted by 115% of the voters in his home clan region. In the end, it's Kosovo and its very own way of 'democracy'.

Rhetorics aside, he is calling for Kosovo Serbs to vote in the elections of the parliament of Kosovo. This type of calls from Belgrade politicians would have been unthinkable a couple of years ago.

(Ari Gold, 2 June 2014 19:50)

Exactly. Serbia was TRYING it, but it didn't succeed, it fired back, and now the hundreds of thousands of Croatians from Krajina and Albanians from Kosovo returned, and instead Serbs from these regions were 'ethnically cleansed', i.e. they were forced to leave their homes and don't dare to return, for good reasons.

250,000 Serbs in 1999? And even more in 2004? Wow! That is a lot of Serbs to be forced to leave Kosovo. The only thing I don't understand is, how can that many Serbs be forced to leave Kosovo if the Serb population of Kosovo was only 194,190 in 1991? And as things stand, the Serb population of Kosovo is 150,000 today. The only explanation I can think of is as an incredibly high birth rate during 1991 and 1999. Them Albanians are evil for forcing hundreds of thousands of Serb babies out of Kosovo. Now lets go back to reality.

Albanians have always been the majority in Kosovo. Even Serbia's own sources show that when they colonised Kosovo in 1913 that over 75% of Kosovo's population were Albanian. However in 1920, there was an official government process which tried to change the demographics of Kosovo by importing 65,000 Serbs to Kosovo and from 1918 to 1921 there was a mass scale expulsion of Albanians with the Albanian population reducing to 439,500 from around 1 million. Yugoslavia tried to transfer a further 200,000 Albanians to Turkey but WW2 got in the way. Thankfully Tito put an end to this sick government programme when he came to power after he helped defeat fascism.

Are you kidding? The Kosovo government is constantly reaching out to the Serbian minority, but the hand is always bitten! They should be pretty damn thankful, considering the Yugoslav government completely blocked institutions including education and the right in government for Albanians. Serbs have those rights that are enshrined in the constitution of the Republic of Kosovo. Also, 800,000 Albanians refugees fled Kosovo, the most refugee count since WW2. The fact that "more Serbs were refugees" is total cow dung. Not to mention the 10.5 k Albanians killed compared to, according to Serb sources, 2.5 k. If you include south Serbia, even more dead Albanians are found. You could use the 1244 card all you want, but in truth, the Serbian government is being in denial with the rights of Serbs in Kosovo and that Kosovo is technically a legit state. The argument against the Kosovo side is so pathetic that "historical reasons" is the second, sorry, first reason why they didn't recognize the Republic of Kosovo. Pozdrav iz Kosovski Albanac.

Whether or you know about the oath or not it is real and goran rakic had to sign it to take office after pantic wouldn't. He is bound by that to be a loyal subject of pristina and his conduct in office has indicated nohing but cooperation and acceptence of pristina rule. If he strayed from that and did anything to oppose Kosovo independence he could be removed. Any elected Serb could.

You must swear an oath of office to be faithful to the country and its laws and that's what all Serb mayors in Kosovo have done. Pantic wouldn't so he had to be replaced and was replaced by rakic who campaigned on the loyalty oath.
(Brian, 2 June 2014 19:09)

Never heard of this "oath". And isn't it interesting that even after Serb leaders were found to govern the north, they still run it like their own territory. What's this oath say? "I promise to govern under my own laws and own standards"? That sounds about right for Kosovo.

Actually, the current demographic make-up of Kosovo & Methojia is the result of firstly over decades long process of ethnic cleansing during the communist times, and then the war in 99 which saw 250, 000 Serbs forced to leave their homes due to organized violence from the Albanian community. Then after the war, the pogroms...continued ethnic cleansing. Serbia has more refugees than any other country in Europe. And yet Serbia was accused of trying to ethnically cleanse other regions...

This "kosovo" is not one that is based on justice or a sustainable peace for either side really. "Andre" says Serbia is wrapped up in nationalism, so he is either knowingly or foolishly ignoring the countless acts of Albanian violence towards Serbs before, during and after the war.
