The (Russian) ministry stressed that the EU should respect the results of the referendums held in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, bla, bla, etc. etc.
Sunday's referendum was a farce. Because....
*The electoral lists were outdated, incomplete and in many polling stations totally absent, making it possible to cast one's vote numerous times.
*There was no secret ballot because voting booths were not installed, therefore all votes had to be performed under the watchful eyes of the organisers (scary) and...
*there were no independant observers.
So how the Russians can expect any intelligent human being to respect these results is beyond my comprehension.

Well, you need to put things in context... In Russia, elections like the ones you described above are considered normal free and fair elections.

You mean these 'organizers' holding a Kalashnikov and watching if the 'voters' put their mark at the right place while politely looking away when someone casted two or more ballots?

"It's time for Brussels to stop seeing the substantial part of the Ukrainian people who do not accept the Kiev authorities as 'Russian separatists' and understand that it will be impossible to resolve the conflict without acknowledging its internal nature," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

While Russia acknowledged the 'internal nature' of this conflict by annexing Crimea - though latterly, they prefer the wording 'reunification'. After the successful 'Greater Serbia' and 'greater Albania' ideas, now the world can enjoy the 'greater Russia' ideology.

Or is it just that the typical arrogance of (wannabe) imperial rulers, that consider any act defying their divine rule as acts of sedition. If only their rule is valid, then indeed any opposition to it can be deemed as efforts to destabilize peace. Just don't ask what kind of peace that is. It sounds like only compliance with the opinions of the US/EU/NATO is considered peaceful. That is not a position belonging to a democracy, but a hallmark of a fascistic police state.

I wonder, if the EU would fall victim to a populist fascistic takeover itself, what would be Catherine thoughts? Would she also consider herself to be a destabilizing separatist then? That is of course assuming she wouldn't be actually opposing it and not be part of it. In the running up to WW2, there were many politicians who didn't oppose the Nazis, some of them openly supporting and rationalizing them, because they simply didn't recognize the danger.

I'm ashamed for someone like Catherine to be representing the EU, in which I was born, raised and still belong. I can only hope are many more Europeans who are equally disgusted by these kind of statements.

Quote from the original article:
... EU High Representative Catherine Ashton expressed on Monday "great concern over the continued efforts of pro-Russian separatists to destabilize eastern and southern Ukraine." ...

I dare Catherine to go to an elderly home in a country like Germany, Holland, France and repeat these same words in front of a group of former resistance fighters who fought their fascist oppressors. She may find it difficult to leave unharmed. I'm pretty sure that my grandfather, who barely survived from a concentration camp, would have had an urge to strangle this woman.

The audacity of Catherine is outright shocking. It's beyond me how limited her little world of information must be, to be able to characterize the situation the way she does with a strait face. I guess she only believes what her best “friends” tell her, dismissing anything else as lies.
