Very good post.
But I have found that it is not really a concern for sons and daughters but those who are most vocal and outraged about these issues are actually combating their own demons. Its a way of trying to convince the world "I am not homosexual".
I don't think that these parades actually advance the acceptance of "being gay" as it does make a lot of people uncomfortable. Like so many have pointed out this will take a few minutes on some street and NO ONE is forced to go, so if you want watch a movie, go to a park, visit the mall or take your kids to a church function, the key is the ability of the state to prevent violence, and get away from the "anything or anyone different must be destroyed" mentality must go away.

Ratko: You couldn't miss the point more if you tried. No, don't cheer and take your children along, do something else that day and allow others to have their parade unhindered. This is not about forcing people to support Pride Week or the parade but to accept the right of others to express their feelings freely as you would expect to be allowed to express yours. I'm neither homosexual nor would I attend a pride parade, but then neither would I go to a dog show as I am not an animal lover. However, I respect the right of others to do as they choose within the law and in a peaceful manner. The only way that this parade will not be peaceful is if those against its holding turn up and cause disruption. Left to their own devices those taking part will not make trouble for anyone.

You don't BECOME gay, you are BORN gay.

Now think about it again.

I really can't understnad why people are so afraid of the parade.
Gays and Lesbians have were so obviously born to straight parents and raised by the same parents and yet they are still gay.
Why do people still think that having a parade will somehow turn their sons and daughters gay?
If that was the case don't these ignorant people realize that countries which have these parades still have a majority of hetrosexual people. How come majority haven't become gay as a result of being exposed to gay communities and parades?

It's only logic and so many people ignore it.

Same story year after year. Much like her economic growth, Serbia's social progress is pretty stagnant. Much like her admired Mother Russia, Serbia is trapped in a century-old mentality that is utterly repugnant to those viewing her from more advanced societies in places like Northern and Western Europe, North and South America, Australia and New Zealand. Just as I do every year, I challenge any homophobic Serb to vacation in New York or San Francisco and compare the atmosphere to that of Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis, Banja Luka, or Podgorica. Just try it and see for yourself how detrimental an effect homosexuals and their annual pride parades have had on those cities.

This is a test of freedom - which currently Serbia fails.

You don't have to like someone else's freedoms, but democracy requires an amount of toleration.

Parades don't last long and soon go by. If you don't like this one, don't look.

Let us hope that the Serbian government has the guts to stand up to the right-wing elements in Serbian society who are only out to make trouble. It is the right of every person to demonstrate freely for their views and it is the obligation of every truely democratic state to guarantee those rights.

"I would like to encourage the government and the city to organize a peaceful gathering, to provide and send a clear message to all people who want to use the language of threats and violence that such behavior is unacceptable," he said.

While in the last years, the government sent a clear message to the hooligans and right-wing extremists (like Dveri) that using the language of threats and violence is rewarded.
