No carrier from Central Europe flies non-stop to the West Coast. I don't think flights to SF or even LA are a priority for Air Serbia but let's hope they will fly these routes.

Since MALÉV went bankrupt Budapest lost the link to the American continent. I just can't believe it. Few things did happen what even during the Cold War was unthinkable: no train from Moscow to Rome via Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and no air link between Hungary and U.S.

Captain Jovanovic,

I personally can't wait for the day that Air Serbia lands in Chicago. I just love the deal with Etihad because it has opened so many door for Air Serbia, and allowed the fleet to become very modern. Hopefully the balance sheet improves greatly as the airline gets more routes and these long distance routes. The A330 would really be a nice sized aircraft and it would keep training costs down with the 319/329's already there. I would completely agree to stay away from the 767...it's a good plane but it's a pain. I am an aircraft mechanic with 17 years at United. We also handle maintenance for many foreign carriers. If Air Serbia looks for maintenance handling contracts at O'hare, and we get it, I may just meet you and your crew members :) I would definitely get my qualifications for that.

As an Albanian from Kosovo living in the US, I would also like for this to happen. I know I probably wont ride it for reasons we all know, but competition is good. Hate flying to Instambul and them double back around.

"The new prime minister also announced that Air Serbia would next year introduce flights to destinations in the United States."

Would not be so bad. I think a market could be there or will be there, with Belgrade serving as a regional hub for direct intercontinental flights. Of course Belgrade will never be able to compete with the big European hubs, Frankfurt, London, Paris and so on.

Dear Aleks,

Thanks for your interest. I'm Captain Jovanovic of Air Srbija. We'll be flying the A330, of course. The balance sheets are in rough shape at the moment, so no A350 or 787 on the horizon yet. You'd sooner see refurbished 767, but let us hope not. Will we see you aboard our direct flight to NY or Chicago soon? Please ask for a cockpit tour if flying on my jet. You sound like you may be a pilot yourself, so I might even let you sub for my co-pilot for a short while.

I really hope that this happens!!! I cannot stand taking Lufty anymore! Too many larger and well known airlines have simply let themselves go and don't care about their passengers at all. If AirSerbia was to fly overseas, I think that they would push hard to have excellent customer relations... for at least a few years like the rest of them anyways. But that's enough for me to switch for at least that time.

I am really interested in seeing what kind of aircraft they would use for the US routes. Also, what their long term plan is. They leased A319/320's and placed permanent orders for the A320neo when it comes out. That's the latest and greatest narrow body. I would guess they would probably lease the A330 at first since cockpit cross utilization would be much easier, but I wonder if they would possibly buy a plane like the A350-800 (although that seat capacity may be too much) or the 787 (lower seat capacity and more efficient) down the road. With Etihad's backing, it opens that possibility up.
