"The Secretary-General, along with the Secretariat, is given the prerogative to exhibit no allegiance to any state but to only the United Nations organization: decisions must be made without regard to the state of origin."
I think that one statement leaves out Jeremic totally, and probably Tadic.

Jeremic showed during his term in the UNGA that he was there to advance his agenda on Serbian politics. Countries are looking for someone who can lead the world unbiasedly, not someone who puts his and his countries issues first. With the ongoing division among Serbia and most of the council as to the status of Kosovo it is very unlikely his bid will be taken seriously. With the constant calls of the UN to be status neutral spewing from his mouth for years, can he fulfill that same role??
But with 1244 at the center of the controversy, Jeremic made even a bigger gaff during his term. The rush to call his "debate" on the ICTY and other tribunals after the release of the Croatia generals. It ended with a pie to his face as the majority of countries sang the praises of the ICTY and proved that Jeremic is unable to lead such an organization for the betterment of ALL members and not a Serbian vendetta.

Vuk should have thought of this before he played songs that are derogatory to a group of people, just like the Croatian player being suspended for WC due to his idiotic gesture same should have been done for Vuk.

So Vuk sorry you shot Serbia in the foot with ICJ and ever time you went on TV you said lets wait for ICJ decision now you dont respect the same thing.

"Upon returning to Belgrade after a successful stint at the helm of the UNGA, Jeremić, according to Novosti, made no secret of the fact he would like to pursue a career at the top of the world's most powerful organization."

"successful stint"... haha that is laughable.... With the childish and provincial behavior Vuk showed as President of UNGA, Vuk is now the best description of what a non-candidate for UNSG would look like :)

So Boris Tadic cannot get support from Serbian citizens after serving as the face of post-2000 Serbia which has been a complete and utter failure, now it's time to see of the UN will take him?

Vuk Jeremic has real credentials and previous UN experience. What credential does Tadic have other than failing as a President.

It is doubtful either would have a chance as long as Kosovo is still an issue before the council. However, the position could become a bargaining chip, should any of the veto holders decide they want a definitive end to Kosovo in the UNSC and it gets moved by resolution to the EU.
It will be interesting to see if Serbia begins to support such an effort or not.
