But the truth is both the economic and the democratic system are broken and our elected representatives have become shills for corporate interests, a bunch of greedy piss taking pillocks and mindless avatars for the elite controlled media. But people are starting to notice the nature of the future that is being slowly set before them. The end of EU, as we know it, is surely approaching.

Leonidis,

You have to admit that the Greek Stockmarket has recovered greatly since the EU made those overly generous loans and NOT because the Greek people have changed their lazy habits. However, it won't last forever if the Greeks continue not paying taxes and pass their time in coffee houses complaining and blaming everyone else for their misery. It might do you good to find a job and spend less time trying to be an armchair economist. What do you think will happen to Greece if the EU become defunct?

Peter Sudyka,

I couldn't agree more with your comment. What's happening in Eu right now truly beggars belief; it's becoming increasingly difficult to comprehend the sheer lunatic wickedness of it all; and yet on and on it goes.Take for example Schengen (no EU country can afford such a lunacy, the Eu is very vulnerable.)Greece has discovered to its detriment hosting more than 1 Million illegal mainly muslim immigrants, that she's not a transit country,as the EU bureaucrats have been saying and there is nothing the country can do because the illegals invoke their human rights legislation. In the meantime the EU is urging Greece to solve the problem by legalising them.Other countries such as France are petrified of the militant, jihadist leaning muslims, which infest French cities.Yet,the same Ministers and senior "functionaries" continue pretending to be an important voice in the EU they let slip.

The unemployment figures quoted by the EU Peter are much lower than the actual ones because they include only current claims.Unemployed people whose entitlements have run out are not included. As I have said many times before the common currency has been an unmitigated disaster. One size fits all is a prison which enslaves countries and deprives them of any flexibility. They EU wants the Euro saved - even if it drives southern Europe into penury. As Lagarde freely admitted "We broke all the rules because we really wanted to save the Euro."
They won't save themselves though.

The unemployment in Europe today is in part the result of overpopulation and stretching of the carrying capacity of especially the Western European countries due to mass immigration and open borders into those countries. This is proof that capitalist greed in hiring foreign workers for much less and pumping vast amounts of taxpayer money into welfare for the millions of unemployed (and welfare tourists from Africa, Middle East and Asia) is a gigantic strain on the country's services and the local population's job opportunities and living standards.

Austerity can only go so far (how many tax increases can you introduce before the local population crack under the strain?) and are short term when it comes to lowering unemployment. Also, I assume there will be government spending cuts, but I wonder where (probably not in the welfare department out of fear of riots). How do they see this solving the problem in the long run? And they are still open to further enlargement in the Balkans? Wasn't the total failure of Romania and Bulgaria, or the economic lifeline (as Leonidas put it) of Spain, Greece and Portugal or the enormous funding into developing the Visegrad countries, Baltics and former Yugoslav states already in the EU enough for them to show that unionizing Europe doesn't work?

Close the borders, deport all illegals, stop welfare and stop further enlargement (for the time being). This is the way to lower unemployment in the long-run, not austerity measures.

There's a few (like the negative posters here) who can only complain.

Usual clueless comments from pro-US,pro-EU and anti-Russian trolls.

Usual anti-EU anti-West rubbish comments.

Don't believe them - the problems are cyclic, and not permanent.

Recessions are a fact of life - and so are recoverys.

The EU is big enough to sustain one way or another.

Small countries like Serbia can only sustain on the coat-tails of others.

I heared them outside my window a while ago.

Unfortunately quite a few western states have problems implementing what they preach. Police here were censured recently for anti-homosexual abuse right next to the Grand Place. They now have to follow a course about how to behave and hid their opinions.

Come to Brussels and see Belgian pensioners and the poor digging in the rubbish put out by supermarkets in the evening. It's and advanced democracy!

Our message is that austerity measures do not work," said the general secretary of the European TUC Bernadette Segol.

It seems to be that Mrs Segol is oblivious to the nature of the crisis afflicting several EU countries The present crisis in EU is a clear indicator that she hasn’t got any more aces under her sleeves to deal with it. The policy of cheap credit fuelled economic expansion in Europe during the boom years. And now that the credit steroid has been removed, growth not only has has stalled but some countries are moving to deflation territory which in turn will exacerbate the debt/GDP ratios. Without growth, even the wealthiest nations will struggle to service their debts. Put in a nutshell significant parts of the world economy have run out of both money and credit. Countries can and do go bust. And there are several of those, like Greece,Portugal and Spain that are on financial life support machine. If one of them collapses there may be a domino effect which could indeed get very nasty. The problem, though,is people in positions like Segol still believing they can fix the system. But the truth is both the economic and the democratic system are broken and our elected representatives have become shills for corporate interests, a bunch of greedy piss taking pillocks and mindless avatars for the elite controlled media. But people are starting to notice the nature of the future that is being slowly set before them. Belgian government responds with water cannong to peaceful assembly?
What a mistake! We all know what will follow...
West will banned them from traveling anywhere, and their assets will freeze.
In addition crowd will radicalize and start using Molotov's and fireweapons on Belgian police.
Russian officials will come to join them, hold hands and have speeches, all until they finally storm the Parliament and swinging baseball bats over their heads, have MP's (by their own free will, of course) appoint thier representatives to ministers, premiers, etc. etc.
