"It's never about helping a country out, it's always about making it comfortable for corporate interests. I know there are many 3rd world countries that are suffering from corporations that invest in their countries for the sole fact that they don't have the same laws and restrictions and environmental policies that the developed western countries do."

Companies who invest don't do it for charity, for sure. There are many reasons to choose a location, less laws and restrictions are much less important than other factors like cheaper workforce or, epecially important, being closet to the target market. But most important is security on investments and property, guaranteed by a stable political system without extremists and radically changing direction of economical and political policies when a new government comes to power.
