Ukraine's Crimea votes to join Russian Federation

.lYes well done Putin the world needs more leaders like you. Crimea and Kosovo are not the same. Kosovo was Serbian for thousand years Crimea was Russian for thousand years, Ukraine only got it because of goodwill from the Russians in1954 but these leaders basically wanted their cake and eat it.
If the West wants Ukraine to remain then the Turks should get out of Cyprus , Kosovo back to Serbia , Falklands back to Argentina, Guantanamo bay back to Cuba, British out of Northern Ireland and Scotland .

Even Frau Merkel must be impressed with the efficacy of the orderly, disciplined, patient, thorough, impeccable, precise, conservative blitz of Putin's "Operation Crimeariver".

to Lenatd, 97% of Crimeans speak Russian as first language, the Crimean Tatar minority have been promised their language will become an official one, which is more than Kiev ever gave them in the past. You've got to hand it to Putin, he does not "waste time". No long "talks", no search for consensus between the parties or at the UN, no backing off, get the maximum that you can in the short term. Send troops, referendum, join Russia, all within a month. Completely the opposite of these "p.ssy" other Western countries with their "Kosovo won't join Albania", "let us talk with Kostunica", "let us send Ahtisaari", "let us compromise at the UNSC", "let us talk in Brussels", "let us drag this for years". Serbs should consider themselves lucky for not having to face a Putin-style diplomacy :).

Yet again the West shows its ugly face. When it is something they don't agree with, it is the wrong kind of democracy. When it is what they want, however low the turnout (Kosovo for example), then it is good democracy.

It's sickening hypocrisy on show for all to see.

Most amusing is that 95% of Tatars do not know their language. Tatars boycotted the vote only in the villages cause Mejlis people stood there and watched them. Another thing is that they are much closer to Balkar and Karachai peoples that live in Caucasus. In fact both of them are Crimean Tatars that came here in the 16 century. Another truth is that most of the Ukrainians and Tatars came to the polls and they voted for Russia too. One more thing is that Ukrainians in the east and in the west differ as much as Jews differ from the Arabs while difference between the Russians and the Ukrainians in Crimea is seen only under a microscope. Also last 23 years in mixed families they usually chose Ukrainian nationality for registration. It’s quite was natural for a chauvinist country like Ukraine. In any case Russia has got a lot of experience making peace in such a multinational space like it is for centuries. All nations have here more or less equal rights. So Tatars will be no problem to say nothing of the Ukrainians that are considered to be just a sort of the Russians. Half of the Russian elites have Ukrainian roots.

Only Northkorea's Kim Yong Un achieves better results.

But at least the Ukrainian people sees now clearly that their enemy is in the East. my suggestion: Since Moscow voided the Budapest Memorandum re-develop your nuclear arsenal and target Moscow. Your striking distance is perfect. It will be only a matter of time until Russia disintegrates and then you can take back what is rightfully yours, plus interest.

It's very good. Crimea takes its EEZ with it (to Russia) and can allow South Stream to take a shorter and much more direct route under the Black Sea.
