It’s a bad news for Russia as well coz we’ll become a sieged camp mudded by everybody. Also I expect bloodshed in the Ukraine. So we’ll have to destroy them first. I believe that after the hysteria is over Poland will become our close ally in the Ukraine.

You really must try to calm down. I know the Ukrainians are in control of many nuke sites, but I doubt they will use them on you Russians, after all, who will they be able to sell all their wheat and grains.

You know Russians are fed up with wars. But this time we talk about our own lands. Before 1953 Russia was ruled by the Georgian (though ethnically Stalin was an Ossetian) and then mostly by the people born in the Ukraine. Everybody added to this country some lands. Father of the Ukraine was Lasar Kaganovich who included here several central regions with Kiev. Later in 1919 Lenin added 9 more regions “to increase proletarian element in the Ukraine”. In 1923 Stalin added Donetsk and Taganrog (later was back). More than that USSR supported Grushevsky’s demand for Tambov, Voronezh, Belgorod , Briansk and other regions. Later they asked for Rostov-na-Donu ect. So their appetites has always been high.

In 1956 Khrushev granted them Crimea while there’s not a single document saying that Sevastopol was also passed that last 100 years was a separate region. If I am not mistaken Poltava has also been passed by Lenin. So it depends on how to count and some of the central regions still hesitate. Time will show the if they still feel themselves Russians and if they have Russian balls. We are lacking leaders in the south-east. Also local elites belong to Regions of Yanuk and may play a Trojan Horse role. Moscow had only a couple of day to get involved. So it’s a big question what regions will split. Besides Ukraine may face territorial problems also with Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Romania , Moldova and Turkey. Let’s see the events to develop especially in Crimea.

It's not bad news for Poland which terms of Ukraine remain part of an independent Ukraine and which ones would be rejoined to Russia.

From the traditional East-West divide of Ukraine, 9 regions could be considered pro-Russian and if Ukraine were to split peacefully ala Czechoslovakia then I don't see why it would be a problem. Which others did you have in mind if not Kharkiv, Donetsk, Lugansk, Mikolaiv, Kherson, Odessa, Crimea, Dnipopetrovsk and Zaporozhia?

What is most important for Poland here is peace. We do not want a war at our doorstep. I believe Russia also does not want to send troops there.

Serbian media is reporting that ukrainian people with albanians are hunting for serbs in Kiev, because serbs are being seen as Youkanovich people.

They go to say that albanians are behind the revolution in Ukraina!!!The head of serbs in Ukraina Dragan Stanojevich is claiming that.
It looks like serbs are very delusional people.Wherever Russia is being defeted Germans, croats and albanians are behind.
Wake up man, losing Kosovo was primary your fault! And losing Ukraina is Russias fault!
You shouldn't be so uppset, because when Kososvo has gone and Serbia will recognise it officially,is going to be better for Serbia too.

Before today I liked most of your posts. But today I care not much about the toilets. Russian oligarchs as you know are nothing better. What I really care about is that we are inevitably approaching the margin line where we two will again stop to understand each other. This time I’ll try to be a gentleman. What I mean is that Putin has got very little tactical maneuver and we are close to the hysteria the West will start as soon as Russia is involved. The thing is Russia will take the historical chance to return our lands back home. You know how the Poles will react. So when it becomes evident please don’t call names but for a minute imagine yourself a Russian. We have to bite away at least Malorossia and Crimea. I mean 12-15 regions out of 28. All Russians think so.

Others are inhabited by the Ukrainians and they will be free to decide where to beg money from. I am not sure the south-east will join us de jure but de facto Putin will be at the command here by the end of the year. I know it’s a bad news for you but I can see no way of how Putin can escape such an escalation. This year the merely hidden new cold war will become open. It’s a bad news for Russia as well coz we’ll become a sieged camp mudded by everybody. Also I expect bloodshed in the Ukraine. So we’ll have to destroy them first. I believe that after the hysteria is over Poland will become our close ally in the Ukraine.

Tymoshenko is indeed same shady character as Yanukovich. I personally would have left her in prison to rot for her fraud crimes. It's that same mafia that robbed the country after state property became privatized and whether they are from the East or West, they are the same thing.

I am not personally aware of how corrupt next two politicians are, though knowing how ridiculously corrupt that country is, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Also of course, I am not saying president and high-placed politicians should not have nice, big house, but having nice big house and having several nice big houses - complete with private zoo, golf courses and toilets made of gold are two separate things, I am sure you will agree. Some moderation would not hurt Ukraine today.

As to your "historically speaking Russia has more reason to have involvement" comment; that'd be like me saying "historically speaking Britain has more reason to have involvement" in Ireland or any former British colony.

Let’s put you in the picture. The east, which takes in all of the land along the Black Sea is the rich part and it’s occupied by Russians considering that part was transferred from Russia to Ukraine in the early 1960s.
The western part, who favour closer ties to the EU are dirt poor and they are Catholics . Russia will never allow NATO any near there, so take of that pumpkin you call a head and put on brains into gear and give it some thought.
Actually this is a fight for control of Europe. Mate you can Kosova all you like it belongs to Serbs and always will. Let’s make stakes !

I bet this year the new Russian state border will run over Dnieper. There will be bloodshed but not much. Happy end is also guaranteed. Russia will have back it’s 6 industrial regions presented by Lenin to Malorossia in 1919 plus Crimea plus Sevastopol city presented by Khrushev in1956 plus Odessa plus Nikolaev ect. The West will have back the 4 Nazi regions joined by Stalin in 1939. Kharkov city will again become the capitol this time of Malorossia. Russia will have it’s industry and chrnozem black earth while the west will have the beggar Nazi regions they had trained for the Ukrainian Spring. Everything will happen this year coz Putin will have no other chance. He cannot afford leaving these Russian lands within this mad land. Azov will become internal sea before the new year. Maybe not de jure but only de facto. After the Olympics are successfully over a lot of energy will be emitted in Russia to realize this idea fix of Mr. Putin.

Ian's comments are among the most daft and incorrect revisionist versions of the situation in Ukraine, typical Russophobia often seen in the UK. Many people here seem to compare Russia's involvement in Ukraine to that of western actors, historically speaking Russia has more reason to have involvement, even though the west is interfering far more. Any of you people heard of the Kievan Rus? It was the first Russian state with Kiev as it's capital ruled by Russian monarchs, the founders of Russian Tsardom before Ukraine even existed as a state, let alone have it's own identity. But all you Russophobic morons here wouldn't have a clue about any of that would you. Russia will always have influence over this part of the world despite this crisis at the moment.

The "mess the west created in Ukraine"? That has to be some sort of sick joke.

It is Russia which has neo-colonial aspirations over Ukraine. It is Russia's puppet Yanukovich which caused the 2004 Orange Revolution with his corruption and trying to cheat the election. It is Russia which caused the 2008 gas dispute. It is Russia which elevated Yanukovich to power in 2010 after Putin publicly endorsed him in the elections. It is under Russia's puppet Yanukovich which corruption thrived and the economy declined. It is Russia's puppet which passed all the anti-Ukrainian/ pro-Russian laws. It is Russia's puppet which had the political opposition arrested and imprisoned. It is Russia's puppet which tried to isolate Ukraine and make it dependent/ enslaved to Russia. It is Russia's puppet which turned Ukraine into a Police state where civil liberties decreased. It is Russia which sent "advisors" to co-ordinate the Ukraine Police recently, which resulted in unarmed people being slaughtered by Sniper and Assault rifles. It is Russia which is trying to divide Ukraine into two. Ukraine would be in a lot better position today if Putin and Russia had just left Ukraine alone.

Article is not about Serbia, but if you have to mention Serbia, you could at least make informed comment. In Slovenia, Slovenians resorted to violence attacking border posts of JNA. First burning homes in all of Yugoslavia were Serb homes in Croatia. Hundreds of Serb homes were burned in Zadar and Sibenik on May 2 , 1991 - first torching based on ethnicity of the owner. First massacre in Bosnia was in Sijekovac on March 26th 1992. Some 60 Serbs, including 17 children were slaughtered. KLA started its campaign on Feb 17 1996 by thorwing hand granades through the windos of the motel that was used to house refugees from Krajina. 8 refugees, 2 of them children died.
These are the facts!
And each time, those who were starting violance had EU and US backing...

Funny that we are now seeing countries favouring western domination fracturing. First Georgia and now Ukraine. No more easy games for those dictators in Washington and Brussels.

The part of Ukraine that is populated by ethnic Russians was part of Russia once upon a time so it should just go back to where it belongs. It should be fairly obvious to all that the country is irreconcilably divided.

Yes, the Olympics are over and what a great event the Russians hosted. A big congrats to them for leading the medal tally both in total medals and the number of golds. Now that it is over, Putin can focus on cleaning up the mess the west created in Ukraine.

Granted, the woman has a shady history and should not be allowed to take power in Ukraine at all, but Yanukovich is even worse.

With B92's permission, I would like to post a link to an article, which shows how lavish this man lived (and to think this is just ONE of his houses!!!), while the rest of the country lived in poverty:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/ukraine/10656023/In-pictures-Inside-the-palace-Yanukovych-didnt-want-Ukraine-to-see.html

This creature also has lost his right to rule the country.

I suggest a fresh start with a totally new government, one that could perhaps even reunite Ukrainians as a nation again, because both parties that have been in charge the last 20 years have done nothing, but bleed the country completely dry for their own benefit, while the country is in a worse economical state than any other country in Europe.

Regarding expensive Russian gas, this is indeed a problem for the Western part of Ukraine, but cheap Russian gas will not solve the problem of corruption and poverty in Ukraine either.

EU representatives are running to Kiev to try and calm things down because they are very afraid that if there is a split the wealthy eastern side will go with Russia while the millions of mouths to feed will be hugging the EU, much like what has happened in Kosovo where the EU got stuck with funding a failed and financially unsustainable state. The people of Ukraine are made up of Catholic west and Orthodox east and they don’t like each other, very much like Serbs and Croats.

What happen in Ukraine over the weekend is great news, a dictator was overthrown, but this isn't the end. Now the Olympics is over, we'll see how Putin responds & there will most likely be more bloodshed unfortunately. Putin won't stand to having his puppet Yanukovych kicked out of power in Ukraine. Putin views Ukraine as Russian land with an identity crisis. Putin will now agitate & mobilise the ethnic Russians in Eastern Ukraine and in the Crimea to engineer a succession, then he'll try & send in Russian forces to "protect" them & many Ukrainians will probably lose their lives as a consequence. But this is nothing new, Russia has historically been a ba***rd towards the Ukrainians. Putin will try to Annex Eastern Ukraine & in the Crimea as a consolation prize, but he'll have the Black Sea which he wants.

Putin & Russian media have already tried to portray the ethnic Russians in Ukraine as victims of Euromaiden which according to Putin & Russian media is "fascist" just because Svoboda are nationalists & some of them admire Stepan Bandera. But this is typical of Russian media, Euromaiden has support across the political spectrum. Batkivshchyna are centre-right conservatives whilst UDAR are Liberals; however Putin & Russian media would have you believe that they're all "fascists", it is pathetic really. The Democratic Alliance aren't fascist, nor are the Ukrainian Greek Catholics & the Orthodox Kyivan Patriarchate. If anyone is a fascist, it is dictator Yanukovych.

I think that all of this will lead to a total stalemate situation ala Transdniester or Kosovo, though substantially larger in terms of population and area.

There is no way for the country to remain unified when the Western part of the country is in the hands of the revolutionaries, while the Eastern part is either split or loyal to Yanukovich (especially Crimea and the Donbass). Neither side wants a split, yet there is no more divided country in Europe today. What is next? Who will be the authority in Kiev? I can't even say "central authority", since there is no way in hell the Western regions will submit to the Party of Regions, nor will the Southeast part of Ukraine (especially Crimea and Donbass) submit to a pro-Western government in Kiev.

I see nothing else, but a split as a solution to this problem. What other solutions are there? Force? There has been enough bloodshed already and neither side will give in to the wishes of the other, like it has been in the past.

On one hand, Yanukovich is the democratically elected president and the rightful one. On the other hand, he is a corrupt scumbag that has robbed the country dry. Anyone seen his home in Kiev (inc. the private golf course, zoo etc.)? How can you do that when you have the poorest country in Europe, apart from Moldova?

It is a total Catch 22 situation and I do not see a way out of this, other than a Yugoslav/Czechoslovak split. The only problem is: where will the border be?

Putin.

Translated into "Anti-Corruption Protests demand the Release of a Corrupt Oligarch".One has to take his hat off though to Tymoshenko who's been described in the French press as 'Machiavelli in a skirt',an epithet that sums up her crooked political career perfectly.By manipulating people and processes ,changing sides and making and breaking alliances as circumstances demanded, shows exactly why she has never been far from power and that makes her a dangerous political animal. With Tymoshenko pulling the invisible strings of power the next step will be to ensure they have a EU backed president who then, let the oligarchs take over as many companies as possible, open up black sea to oil and gas exploration by EU and US companies and open up the country to nuclear related businesses.

The next crucial question is how Russia will respond to the events taking place in Ukraine. My hunch is Russia will respond after the end of the Olympics in Soshi. They will find a way to get even and in the meantime the EU/US will keep subsidising the fascists and anti-semites that have led this "coup".

I hate to break it to you, but Kievan Rus wasn't the first Russian state, it was a state belonging to the Rus' people. The Rus' people were Varangians, which is what the Greeks and East Slavs called 'Vikings' aka Norsemen originating from Scandanvia/ the Baltics.

As to your "historically speaking Russia has more reason to have involvement" comment; that'd be like me saying "historically speaking Britain has more reason to have involvement" in Ireland or any former British colony.

Also, I'm not Russophobic, I'm a Russophile. Russia is my favourite country in the world, I love Russia; I just don't agree with Putin and his cronies.

Watch and learn my little Albanian sheep herder, just watch and learn. Ahhh, Russia has blood on it hand, but the west murder with democratic feelings in their hearts eh?
Well let’s look at the democracies that your great friend the US upholds – Saudi Arabia, a beacon of democracy, Kuwait, Bahrain, the Yemeni democracy, the new government in Egypt, Libya. Perhaps you have forgotten the murderous regimes in the Philippines such as the Marco family, or South American dictators, eh?
Russia will secure Ukraine one way or another because this is really a battle for control of Europe. Once Moscow win, Thaci will be looking for a nice big rock to crawl under in New York while your rabble will seek new accommodation in Albania.

if what you wrote is true (it isn't, your imagination is getting the better of you again), then Russia is directly responsible for the chaos in Ukraine. of course, since i have come to believe that you suffer from FPP, i choose not to laugh at you any more.

For such an expert on cut & paste like yourself it wouldn't be difficult to open my link.Basically Ron Paul gives an answer to all your nonsense about who caused the orange revolution in Ukraine and the rest. One would think-irrespective of which side of the fence he's sitting on-that since Ron Paul's opinion is mentioned in various media outlets around the world carries more weight than the propagandist and revisionist versions of the situation in Uraine yu air on this site.

ZZZZZZ, I said its my opinion and I don’t base that on any fact.
A new leadership is on the way – oh it seems the US is in the process of drastically reducing its military, but disguised as BS about being able to buy better equipment. Enjoy it while you can.

Putin.

Much has been said about Yanukovych's estate. But I'd like to know, did he actually build it for himself or take it over from Tymoshenko? Where did Tymoshenko live? Most countries have some place of residence for the president. That's not what this place is?
