That's been the case ever since Yugoslavia opened borders and allowed people out.

(Peggy, 17 February 2014 23:14)

Peggy, I really doubt that the level of people wanting to leave has ever been greater than now.

No one wants to say.

You have no idea how many times I've been approached by some lame attempt to get me to participate in some sort of immigration scam to get them out of there.

It's the biggest dream of the majority of people under 30. This isn't "bashing", this is simply the truth. It was also the truth for your parents. They didn't leave Bosnia for Serbia, like 200000 did. No, they decided to go somewhere better. You should thank them for that everyday.

(Peggy, 17 February 2014 23:14)
Since you are speaking from personal experience, I can only say it is a shame you were unable to take advantage of the great opportunity afforded you. Australia is a progressive country with many opportunities for those with the capabilities to make their life a success. I know many refugees from all over the world who have come to America and made great success in the lives of themselves and their families. Some as you say are destined to menial jobs the same as some who were born here in the US, that is life, everyone cannot be a successful Doctor or Lawyer.
But take pride even cleaning toilets is an admirable profession if you can live without oppression.
But aren't you one of the ones who says that the reason you have not taken advantage of the wonderful life in the Russian paradise is that you have established you life and family in the west. If it is miserable as it was in Eastern Europe, I don't see why that would stop you from moving as it did not stop you (or your parents) from leaving before. Maybe it isn't quite that bad, you think???

People from Eastern Europe think that once they leave their country thier lives will be something like out of a UN sitcom, but we, who live in those countries know very well that nothing could be furthr from the truth.
How many Poles have left in search of a better life. How many Croatians, Bosniaks, Albanians etc.?
Please don't make this into a Serbia bashing exercise. All are the same and all would rather clean toilets in the west than stay at home which is what a lot end up doing.

Over 60% of Serbs - probably more now - recognize Kosovo as an independent nation. A ballot on a new consitution that removed Kosovo would pass overwhelmingly as the pro indepenence government is going to be reelected.
(Brian, 14 February 2014 10:56)

Stop lying, I live in Serbia unlike you and every poll that has been made on the issue shows that 80-95% are opposed to recognizing Kosovo as independent. The Pm and the president have stated at least thousand times that Serbia will NEVER recognize Kosovo independent and yet you come up with the same crap every day. Of course it is, even UN1244 says Kosovo's status is temporary until a final, mutual agreed solution is found. And until now, such a solution has not been found. In fact, whole Kosovo is based on a bad compromise.
(Comm. Parrisson, 13 February 2014 17:12)
Again with the "Mutual agreed solution" mind highlighting this term in the official text of the UNSC 1244 (not the one dreamed up by you and many other Serb posters). It does not matter how many times you write it, that will not make it true. UNSC 1244 does not predetermine the process that is to determine the final status of Kosovo, it says it is the mandate of the international presence to determine a political process.

Serbia's position towards Kosovo's status is very complicated and complex. The fact is that Kosovo is not under the control of the Serbian state, and not the result of the current government, but this government and future newly formed after the early parliamentary elections, will have to negotiate and attempt to reach those negotiations such a position that does not fully indicate acceptance of Kosovo's independence but on the other hand will not affect the process of European integration and international position of Serbia in the world.

Funny this guy doesn't mention the ever growing number of young people in Slovenia wishing for an EU "exit". I recently watched a program on Link TV which airs in the U.S. Not sure if it's available in other countries. But very interesting on how many youths across all of Europe wish to exit the EU. I am unsure why so many Serbs are brainwashed to jump onto a sinking ship, AKA the EU.

Why not take a status neutral stance of that the DSS wishes to take. Play both sides. Don't bow down to one master as you are doing now.

"Considering you have been a country for how long? Robbed all the former Yugoslav nations during wars yet you're still broke and printing money devaluing your dinar."

Serbia did not rob the other nations: they robbed Serbs. So much of Serbian property has now been taken by those statelets.
Serbia has the burden of hundreds of thousands of refugees and displaced for DECADES.
These people have had their homes and property STRIPPED and USURPED by Croats, Bosnian Muslims and Albanians.

Slovenia's banks KEPT the non-Slovene depositors accounts and have never returned them to this day.
Slovenia companies also took out HUGE loans just before they seceded, stashed the money in German and Austrian banks, and then declared bankruptcy.

Serbia is the one STILL PAYING on KOSOVO'S Debt. Only the World Bank part of loans was forgiven. So SERBIA HAS BEEN PAYING FOR MANY YEARS CONTINUOUSLY ON KOSOVO'S DEBT STILL.

And it was Serbia which financed the building in Kosovo. It was Serbs who financed and built the airport, the underground military airport, the hospitals, the schools, the universities, etc.

Give the German run EU the middle finger, tell them to go to hell. That's the only way to deal with these people.
Oh, and Kacin, before you get back to daily duties such as getting coffee and strudel for the portly Merkel, remember this - I am Serb and I am telling you, Serbia will never, ever, recognize Kosovo. You should have known from June 99 moving forward the Serbian constitution was due to change its constitution. No country can enter EU without making sure they have no beef with anyone around. Serbia has serious issues beyond recognizing Kosova. Well done Jelko Kacin, I thank you for telling the truth.

@Robert

That's the problem with you Serbians, you want the goods and bail out as soon as possible. Well, not this time not so fast... IDK about becoming a magnet for investments that is a bold statement to make. The important matter is that Serbia removes Kosova off the Serbian constitution and just deal with this issue internally. We honestly can careless what happens after wards. Just remember that EU members will be firm on their requirements, which are for Serbia to completely withdraw itself from Kosova in every aspect. This is a clear statement made by a member of European Parliament. What else do you need to fully understand what Serbia needs to do in order to join EU? I noticed Dacic has lied "shocking I know" but that's life.

How about Serbia stop listening to well known Serb haters like Kacin, who is just a shoe shine boy to his German EU bosses. He did basically say everything in this piece, and when he refers to the Serbian 'elites' we all know he iis talking about Ceda Jovanovic, Tadic, Canak, Dacic, and perhaps even Vucic and Nikolic. Who the hell to these outsiders think they are, dictating that Serbia must change its constitution?? Only an enemy would talk like this.
Forget about it :). It is ours, legally, morally, historically, and spiritually, and will always remain that way.

Cheers!!

@Albanian;

'You albanians' to use your crude terminology, are pre-occupied with the Kosovo status issue yet you ignore the disastrous state of your 'country.' You have no viable economy to speak of, unemployment is catastrophic, and your society is riven with extreme corruption and cronyism. War criminals are lauded as war heroes in some warped adulation fetish, and clan mobs run your major towns and cities.
Albanians are not a homogenous body politic and have widely divergent opinions and views. Most would prefer a decent job and education.
Most Serbs probably view Jelko Kacin as a pathetic EU functionary from an irrelevant little nation on the periphery.
A majority of people in the UK are sick and tired of Brussels and of small men like Kacin pretending to be more important than they actually are. Hopefully by the time Serbia sells its soul to Berlin, we'll be out of it.

I wish Serbia would continue with the reforms so it becomes a magnet for investment, and abandon negotiations with the double talking European Union!

"However, that solution is a temporary compromise, Kacin claims."

Of course it is, even UN1244 says Kosovo's status is temporary until a final, mutual agreed solution is found. And until now, such a solution has not been found. In fact, whole Kosovo is based on a bad compromise.

If my intuition serves me it will be like this

There will be about 1 year of propaganda how Serbia could be the next Switzerland if we could just join EU completely. Than once the people have been soften to te idea that Kosovo is no longer Serbian for their prosperity they will vote to let Kosovo go in a referendum(which Serbia will organize)

So no government is responsible but the result is why is expected

Well there you have it, Kacin, former minister of propaganda for Slovenia is the most powerful man in Europe, at least in his own mind. To be fair, a lot of his colleagues in the European Parliament are also quite deluded about their own worth. If only Europe got MEPs who weren't member state cast offs, just treading water until they can return to proper politics in government back home.

Over 60% of Serbs - probably more now - recognize Kosovo as an independent nation. A ballot on a new consitution that removed Kosovo would pass overwhelmingly as the pro indepenence government is going to be reelected.

No she doesnt, Serbia funded Everything in Kosovo just like Slovenia for example financed everything in their republic. Money was only administrated from Belgrade as Always from a countrys capital. Obviously you dont know about the political and financial structure of sfrj.

Well, that's what EU wants. Now we find out what Serbia is willing to give.
I don't know why Serbia's politicians keep insisting that Kosovo recognition is out of the question when they know well that recognition is mandatory before they enter EU.
Who do they think they are fooling?

It seems to me that they have given their word they will recognise Kosovo because why else would they waste their time entering the process.
Let's see what the people will decide when they finally wake up and realize they have been lied to all along.

I cannot for the life of me think that those families who were killed by NATO bombs in 1999 are counting down the days to rub shoulders with the UK, Germany and Austria.

Questioner

pre 10 godina

"Now the EU is involved in the negotiations on the Stabilization and Association Agreement with Kosovo, and the EU can enter such negotiations and sign such an agreement only with a country, and not simply a group of people," Kacin noted.

Like the UN accepts only countries as members, and not a simple group of people (here: an ethnic minority)?

ISIDOR

Serbia's position towards Kosovo's status is very complicated and complex. The fact is that Kosovo is not under the control of the Serbian state, and not the result of the current government, but this government and future newly formed after the early parliamentary elections, will have to negotiate and attempt to reach those negotiations such a position that does not fully indicate acceptance of Kosovo's independence but on the other hand will not affect the process of European integration and international position of Serbia in the world.

Dejan Pavicevic is a LIASION officer and not an ambassador, if he is an ambassador where is the ksovo embassy in belgrade? Tell me the addresse? And there were no ballots whatsoever only blank papers.

Such generous people, you gave all your money to build a life for the Albanians, right,
One has to wonder what happened to all the taxes collected in Kosovo?, Did the IMF and WB not declare that Serbia was not responsible for the millions of loans that had never been repaid for infrastructure in Kosovo???
So in other words you took other peoples money and spent in Kosovo minus your "political overhead" or as another article calls it "corruption", and then destroyed everything built, closed the schools, all the factories, shuttered the hospitals, barred 95% from the Kosovo students from attending the university built there, and once it was all destroyed you say but we paid for it.

To make it easier here is a link to the original document.

That's been the case ever since Yugoslavia opened borders and allowed people out.
All are the same and all would rather clean toilets in the west than stay at home which is what a lot end up doing.

you think

pre 10 godina

(Peggy, 17 February 2014 23:14)

Peggy, I really doubt that the level of people wanting to leave has ever been greater than now.

No one wants to say.

You have no idea how many times I've been approached by some lame attempt to get me to participate in some sort of immigration scam to get them out of there.

It's the biggest dream of the majority of people under 30. This isn't "bashing", this is simply the truth. It was also the truth for your parents. They didn't leave Bosnia for Serbia, like 200000 did. No, they decided to go somewhere better. You should thank them for that everyday.
