"There is not an inexorable move towards Islamisation in Bosnia, if anything people are turning away from religion altogether."

Actually, ned, there've been some recent deaths of Bosnian Muslims in Syria. They are fighting with the terrorist factions there.

What you have to come to terms is that Richard Holbroke is dead as the dodo bird. Secondly, we are no longer living in 1999, but a very different 21 century where the west is faltering badly. Here is a prediction, if the Russians lose in the Ukraine then all you have said is true about Serbia losing Kosovo, but if the Russians win then all is lost for the Albanians in Kosovo.
The Russians have all the cash Ukraine needs but the EU and US don’t.
The EU is now starting to print money.

Mr.Andreas Melzer expressing some very interesting views "Mejor stumbling block is the Kosovo issue and its resolution, which does not depend on Serbia but on the Europeans Partners"This was obvious to many observers including this one for some time.Another one is economic sustainability of Kosovo.Projected 10 years time for Serbia to join EU is not realistic in my opinion.Serbia should concentrate and intensify effort to achieve full democracy through entrepreneurial market economy. Its hard and it takes time to over come decades of communism, economic mis-managements,bad habits and social dependency. As long as Serbia is allowed to trade freely (without embargo)I have no doubt Serbia would be Balkan's leading Country in all area of worthy human endeavors.Russia's Federation could be the place to market some of Serbian products.Serbia is in Europe and belong to Europe. However, should never accept dictate or agree to change theirs borders except through UNSC.European experiment can be successful, but largely depends on World's dynamic, which are fast moving these days.

Serbia is no more retarded by economic process than Germany was after its time spent under, first the Third Reich, and then East Germany under communism. Serbia suffered more than anyone else in the SFRY, especially economically.

If we were to place Kosovo under local authority based on economic contributions in the SFRY, ignoring demography, the Serbs would still win.

The late Richard Holbrooke told serbs:
There are two choisces in front of you Kosovo or EU.
If you pick Kosovo you will lose both.

This is the truth.Serbia can not enter in EU,without making peace with its neighbors includin Kosovo.
Corruption and other issues are secondary issues, and I am pretty sure of Serbia recognises Kosovo,it will enter in EU in 2015.

The problem lies with serbs themselves and serbian politicians. Can they move forward and enter in EU or be slave of moyths and legends?

Everyone who has 1gr brain, knows that Serbia can not rule Kosovo anymore even if EU and West decides to leave Kosovo alone.
So the best strategy is cut the losses and move on.
But I dont know if sebs understand this.
In 1999 if the cut the losses and moved on they still would have had Kosovo within their sovregnity.
in 2001,they would have had Noth Kosovo
in 2006 they would have had North Kosovo authonomy etc.

As you see when the time goes by,Serbia is losing more and more on the bargain with nothing to gain.

"I know that Serbia has to largely overcome its pride, but on the other hand, the Europeans should also view this issue realistically. Kosovo must not be allowed to become the center of Islamization of Europe, which would only serve the interests of the U.S.," stressed the Austrian politician.

The bigger problem is Kosovo being allowed becoming the center of mafia and drugs in Europe. This would serve no one. Oops, why would? No need for future tense, it's already reality: Kosovo is the first mafia state on European soil. Mafia state here doesn't mean there are influential mafia groups (like in Italy), but the mafia groups and the government has very close ties (or the figures are identical).

The problem with Islamization in Europe I see being more present in Bosnia where Mujahedins and other religious fighters from the Arab world got citizenship granted.

Comm,
I think the article is about Serbia has to change to join the EU,
"We need a true democracy where decisions are made by citizens and not by mafia, big business or foreign powers. A country vying to join the EU should also achieve economic prosperity and secure employment"
but once again you put the blinders on and try to point the focus on Kosovo.
Kosovo has its own issues to deal with in its course toward the EU but Serbia will not get in because it is maybe a step further along than Kosovo. Trying to make yourself look better by making others look worse only goes so far, eventually you have to admit and correct your own issues with corruption and criminal ties. Which by the way seems to about to go warp speed in the wrong direction with your current political agenda of ridding Serbia of any opposition.
