I don't know if Serbia is the master of the universe but it's certainly the master of your universe since you spend days and nights on a serbian site

Well my Albanian friend you can be as ironic as you want, you can even brag about your smartness with your friends in your hometown cafe, but that doesn't change the fact that you need Serbia's consent in order to join organizations of which Serbia is already a member. What a pity!
(thanasis, 15 January 2014 18:24)

That's not correct. For example, Serbia is a member of IMF, still Kosovo joined regardless of Serbia's wishes. Sorry dear for shattering your dreams that Serbia is the master of the universe :)

As for Kosovo, it is a self-proclaimed independent country and its partecipation in international organisations (at least the ones that matter) has to have the consent of Serbia.
(thanasis, 14 January 2014 20:35)

Ha ha, I guess the new definition of "important international organization" is the following:

"An international organization is considered important if, and only if, a country can join it with Serbia's consent."

thanasis

pre 10 godina

Wales Scotland and N. Ireland play football on an international level even though they're not independent countries but parts of the UK, because they and England have had separate football federations virtually since the beginning of football. The UK case in football is unique and it is owing to the fact that they invented football. It doesn't have much to do with politics. As for Kosovo, it is a self-proclaimed independent country and its partecipation in international organisations (at least the ones that matter) has to have the consent of Serbia. Now that doesn't mean that Kosovar Albanians are prevented from playing football on an international level since they can all play for Albania. I think that Lorik Cana is from Kosovo, am i wrong?

icj1

But if there are general rules that only internationally recognized states (i.e. UN member states) are allowed to send football teams to international matches, then Kosovo is out, Kosovo is not an UN member. No more else to say...
(Comm. Parrisson, 10 January 2014 18:22)

I guess you just meant "UN member states" since it has nothing to do with international recognition of states. Indeed, there is not a single state which has been recognized by the UN, so far.

You're missing the point here quite badly. Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Gibraltar are not independent states but part of UK and non UN members. Therefore, following your own logic, this shouldn't be a barrier for Kosovo to join FIFA and UEFA as non independent state or UN member?

The problem with the Serb Federation is that they're badly trying to delay the decision and bizarrely contradicting themselves. Such a mess!

Although I understand people's frustrations, sport cannot be separated from politics. Politics is not some self contained concept for the amusement of the 'elite', it is life itself and affects every facet of our daily routines. We have a Minister for Sport in the UK as I imagine that Serbia does too, that must tell you something. There is clearly more at stake here than the occasional game of football.

If it is like that, why discuss it at all? Are the football teams from Taiwan or Northern Cyprus allowed to participate in international matches?
(Questioner, 10 January 2014 18:17)

No but Gilbartar was just allowed despite protests from Spain. It is coming and Serbia knows it. It's a matter of time. Initially it will be international friendlies. At a later time, membership. That is why there are discussions and this is not a closed case issue. The more Kosova Albanians play for big clubs in Europe the easier it is to make the case. Everyone sympathizes when they see ManU players and Bayern Munich players not being able to play for the national team they love. It paints FIFA, UEFA and Serbia in bad light and as antagonists. I don't know about Serbia, but FIFA and UEFA care about their image, especially after corruption scandals. It costs them nothing to grant international friendlies even without official membership status. It's simply a matter of time.

Today, there are many gifted soccer players playing at the highest levels all across Europe.

As far as FIFA's decision, I personally like the idea of K Albanians playing for Albania.

Nobody stops Albania from playing football. And Serbia is in no position to stop anyone at all. But if there are general rules that only internationally recognized states (i.e. UN member states) are allowed to send football teams to international matches, then Kosovo is out, Kosovo is not an UN member. No more else to say...
(Comm. Parrisson, 10 January 2014 18:22)

Gibraltar and Palestine are not UN members either and yet they are allowed to play. Kosovo is not being allowed to play because of Platini and Blatter. The first one is a filo-serb a good friend with the ex-president of serbian federation, and the second one is a Swiss whose national team is made almost all of Kosovo albanians that would choose Kosovo before Switzerland if they had the chance.

But is this right what FSS is protesting? If you think about it politics and sports don't mix.

Majlinda Kelmendi - she is from that mafia family for sure and all the wresting bouts were arranged, or to be more precise, all her opponents were threatened by albo mafia - everyone knows what those talibanians are capable of - where there is an talibanian there expect blood, crimes and the tears - whether the other normal people or their own (since the Kanun prescribes that). it is wise not to invite talibanians to play in other countries - once they stole a wrist-watch from G. Bush then one may only guess what will happen to others - so called ordinary mortals?

Albanians who live in Serbia can play for Serbian national team.
Just as is the case in EVERY member of FIFA.
So why a special deal for Kosovo province?

No, don't!

Herman Hose just to correct you. There will be many Serbians playing at the World Cup. If you hadn't realised Croatia and Bosnia-Hercegovina have both qualified. Those teams are almost completely made up of descendants of Serbs who were either forcibly converted to Catholicism or Islam. They can deny it all they like but just look at them they all look the same to me and the genes don't lie.

Interesting to note that none of the players born of Albanian heritage want to play for Albania. that tells you something.

Thats strange because I have never seen Gibraltar or Palestine play in the World Cup or European Cup qualifications, let alone the later stages.

You don't have to be a UN member in order to be a member of Internationale Federation.
me
Well according to the UEFA and FIFA statute you have to be a UN member to be a member of those organizations, what does football have to do with Judo? These are completely different organizations.

LOL what an ignorant comment, you do realize that Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Gibraltar are a part of the United Kingdom right? Owned.

Well, maybe he wonders why Kosovo, as a province of Serbia, is not allowed to have an own team while provinces of the UK are allowed?

Well my Albanian friend you can be as ironic as you want, you can even brag about your smartness with your friends in your hometown cafe, but that doesn't change the fact that you need Serbia's consent in order to join organizations of which Serbia is already a member. What a pity!

"The UEFA statute clearly states that the membership in this organization is allowed to national football associations only if the country is recognized by the UN as an independent state"

If it is like that, why discuss it at all? Are the football teams from Taiwan or Northern Cyprus allowed to participate in international matches?

Although I understand people's frustrations, sport cannot be separated from politics. Politics is not some self contained concept for the amusement of the 'elite', it is life itself and affects every facet of our daily routines. We have a Minister for Sport in the UK as I imagine that Serbia does too, that must tell you something. There is clearly more at stake here than the occasional game of football.

thanasis

Ha ha, I guess the new definition of "important international organization" is the following:

"An international organization is considered important if, and only if, a country can join it with Serbia's consent."

FIFA has authorized the Kosovo national team to play friendlies. Shaqiri Behrami and other Xhaka, international Swiss far will they change jerseys?
But the Kosovo case progresses, and it should cause some questions in the minds of some players - and leaders - of Swiss football.

Serbia was able to cause a big delay in the decision afterall they waited through the WHOLE weekend to announce that Kosovo mens teams could play friendly games with members of the FIFA.

That's not correct. For example, Serbia is a member of IMF, still Kosovo joined regardless of Serbia's wishes. Sorry dear for shattering your dreams that Serbia is the master of the universe :)

I guess you just meant "UN member states" since it has nothing to do with international recognition of states. Indeed, there is not a single state which has been recognized by the UN, so far.
