Poll finds Macedonia's "best friend" to be Turkey

While these people are deciding their identity, the Albanians are making sure the Macedonians wont have a country to govern by the time the they figure themselves out.

The majority Slavs of this country have two stark paths it can take going forward. They can either do some "soul searching" and rediscover their "long lost" (since 1945) Serbian-ness...OR they can continue on this destructive path of identity theft of Greek culture, and watch their country be wiped off the map.

This region in the Balkans along with Kosovo i Metohija are the oldest parts of the Serbian state. Vardar and Kosovo i Metohija make up the foundation of Serbian culture and national identity. That is a proud history. Not as glamorous as Alexander the Great, but that's simply not your history to claim!

The servey dos not suprise me, considering half of population of macedonia consists of Albanian and turkish population, it is expected they lean towards their brothers.

@Ari Gold...Brother, why do you even bother to point out the obvious too these Fyromanians? Look in Afghanistan they have uncovered all sorts of treasures from Alexander's time and the writing on the treasures was Greek. The name Alexander is a Greek name , Alexander wanted to be in the Olympics( a place only reserved for Greeks) Alexander slept with a copy of the illiad under his pillow. Recently in Bulgaria they uncovered Thrasian graves everything in the Graves had Greek writing on the treasures ... The only place that they try and remove the Greek texts and obvious Hellenic Culture from history aside from Fyromania is Turkey. They mutually don't even allow religious freedom for Orthodox Christian Minorities. I'm not surprised with the survey ,why are you?

Great news. Muslims unite. Soon skopje will be part of albania, and whoever is not muslim will have to go Bulgaria or Serbia. I find this a realistic approach. Less than 10 years.

Their language is a mix of Serbian and Bulgarian not closer to Bulgarian I wouldn't say as I can understand them fine but cannot understand a Bulgarian that easy. Before communism, people there considered themselves to be Serbian. Skoplje was the capital of the short-lived Serbian Empire. This region along with Kosovo i Metohija is the very root of the Serbian nation and considered "Old Serbia".

It wasn't until the communist era where groups of people were being branded as "nations" did these people start to believe this Alexander the Great nonsense. In an attempt to create the illusion that Yugoslavia is this great multi-ethnic paradise, and given the fact that the tyrant Tito was a vehement Greco-phobe, he gave them this identity that they still adhere to today.

I am not even saying Bulgarians don't have any ties to the land either. Its probably mixed by now. I am just saying that if they are doing soul searching as to who they really are, it would make sense to ally with Serbia given the similar threats to our countries' borders that we both face.

If this poll is accurate, it has everything to do with the naming dispute and apparently nothing to do with history.

I don't know why the serbs rate so highly... I guess 80 years of serb/yugoslav propaganda has had that effect.. We were taught the Albanians greeks/bulgars/turks were bad, heck everyone was bad except for the Serbs, now we have Serb love..

Because of Yugoslavism and communism which Belgrade is still occupied by to this very day. Before this cancerous ideology, these people considered themselves to be Serbian. It was a real mind f**k this communism, our people lost so much of its identity and culture by agreeing to this existence.

Bulgarians have real claims to this territory too I am not denying that. But it is Serbs who share the common national security threats as the Macedonians which is of course Albanian separatism.

They should pick whatever they want but the status-quo. If they continue down this path, they are digging their own grave.

What a ridiculous comment. Talking about not being friends with someone that invaded them 600 years ago, when Serbia is doing everything it can to join a group that invaded them 14 years ago and permanently severed a part of their country away.

Albania has been frank to the ancient people of Macedonia since 1991, especially during the 2000 conflict, no wonder it appears on the top list.

Macedonia is an artificial creation. Macedonia will not exist in about 10 to 15 years time frame. At least 50% of the population are Albanians, so half of the FYROM will unite with Albania so at the end will be Great Albania (Albania, Kosova, half of FYROM and Presheva Valley)! Clock is ticking.

Wow this is like news to me,I had no idea that Turkey is considered a "best friend" nation to Macedonia so does that mean that they could be staunch allies to one another? When some of us think of nations that have a "special relationship",staunch allies and what appears to be best friends what comes to some of our minds are Great Britain & United States and to some extent Canada & Israel.
