"Aye, only the Serbs wanted to live in a Greater Serbia aka Yugoslavia"

No, Yugoslavia was a Croat's idea and Croatia and Slovenia wanted Serbian help to get out from under the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and they both wanted territories controlled or threatened by Italy, such as Dalmatia & Istria.

It was Serbian troops which did secure Dalmatia at the end of WWI. Croats and Slovenes were on the Austrian side and fought against Serbia and Serbs.

Serbs were actually foolish to join in a state with those who'd been enemies.

Both Croatia and Slovenia became the GREATER when they joined up with Yugoslavia.
Croatia got lands it didn't have before. Besides Dalmatia, Croatia got Slavonia (which had a large Serbian population), and part of Istria.

If Serbs had stayed independent after WWI, they would have had a greater Serbia, for the Serbs in Dalmatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina wanted to join Serbia. Plus Slavonia would have been independent or divided between Serbia and maybe Croatia or Hungary.

So, Serbia was cheated, and during Yugoslavia under Tito, Serbs were very underrepresented in the government. Slovenes and Croats were overrepresented and they worked to weaken Serbia by carving out autonomous areas.

There were no autonomous areas carved out of Croatia or Bosnia and Herzegovina. Slavonia, Dalmatia, Istria or making Herzegovina autonomous never happened.

Wonder no more,
If you remember it was the Serbians that wanted to live in one country with all these other peoples they didn't want to break it up.

They just wanted the others to know that Serbia was in charge and they could stay on their land if they agreed to a submissive presence.
It is your attitude that makes me wonder WHY would anyone in their right mind want to seek asylum in Serbia.

I think the answer is that they believe once granted asylum in Serbia it would open the doors to the EU, not that they really expected a better life there.

Keeping these people in Serbia is a violation of their human rights; it is a form of imprisonment. Serbia should allow them to travel to the EU. They are not Serbia’s problem and Serbia should not be their problem.
(Michael Thomas, 19 December 2013 14:54)

If these asylum-seekers are in Serbia by their own choice, then how is it a violation of their human rights? Which human rights exactly are being violated?

And why should they go to the EU? They're not the EU's problem either. Also, are you some how implying that their human rights will be restored if they leave Serbia for the EU?

Just wondering why are you just wondering??? Why on earth should Serbia put up with these imbeciles who often bought the disaster upon themselves by political infighting.Do you remember Yugoslavia? Now there's a good example of how stupid intolerant people can be.By that I mean the Slovenes.,Croats,Bosnia-ks,Macedonians,Albanians,and some Montenegrins who broke up an internationally recognized state just because each ethnic warlord wanted his own patch. If you remember it was the Serbians that wanted to live in one country with all these other peoples they didn't want to break it up. Actually most Serbians I know and I know thousands of them are to a man and woman fair-minded and tolerant of just about anything. They might not agree with it but they will tolerate it.The one thing we don't like to tolerate is idiots like you telling us how we should run our country and what borders we should live within and how our morality is defined. I have nothing against asylum seekers. These people are having many problems, no one left their home country because they were bored, but because they are forced to do that. Number of asylum seekers in Serbia is growing rapidly, although Serbia is not their final destination. Our asylum law must be changed.

One has to wonder just who is seeking asylum in Serbia? Must be a country that has no flow of information in or out. Really to flee to a country that has a history of oppression to others, is still about 90% one ethnic group that resists diversity of anything else.
