I believe Serbia should work towards pure neutrality in every way possible and not be "closer" to either EU or Russia. Under the EU, Serbia would lose their sovereignty, be subjected to outside subsidies, laws and regulations, suffer from worse unemployment and debt than they do now and suffer an enormous braindrain, while under Russia, probably nothing will change, since Russia and prosperity are two words which never should be used together in one sentence. Neither are good for the average European country and all European countries should fight for their own interests and sovereignty, while maintaining neutrality and best possible trade relations and economic relations with all sides.

While I agree that the EU is a sinking ship, soaked in debt and pretty much screwed for all intents and purposes in terms fo future demographics, but this "rising Russia" crap is just laughable. They may not be printing paper currency like there is no tomorrow and have enough gold supplies to weather the upcoming political meltdown, but Russia is a corrupt, oligargh-run and ultra-polarized state (in terms of economic disparity) which has nothing to offer to Serbia either.

Serbia, be as you always were: free, independent, unaligned and stubborn, yet friends with everyone. This is the best path to take.

What has Russia done for Serbia? Dacic is beginning to show the dangers of overblown ego by trying to pit sides with superpowers. He's a hamster in a cage of lions.

Serbia should look forward to a better life as a democracy functioning as a member of Europe, rather than be part of the continuing culture of corruption and cronyism that still exists in Serbia, as well as Russia. Why do you think your young, educated people flee Serbia? Do you think aligning with Putin will keep them home? Think of your children's future instead of the dead past. It's your responsibility.

Serbia and Serbian people are in Balkans, in Europe, and not in Russia.
The sooner this ties are broken the better for Serbian people and Balkans.

Political games by Dacic but the West only have themselves to blame for this. For years they have been playing the 'stick and carrot' game where the stick was always bigger and the carrot kept on getting smaller. You cannot blame Serbia for looking for other places for investment and friendship. I don't like Russia too much but the West has really lost an opportunity to secure Serbia.

I hate to say it, but Dacic's position is appropriate. Serbia has been treated with the stick and carrot (heavy on the stick, light on the Carrot) by western governments while Russia has treated Serbia with friendly business relations.

If it weren't for western businesses, that are interested in doing business in Serbia, Western Governments would have continued their anti eastern approach. Businessman think in terms of money and opportunity, Western governments think in terms of power and hegemony. I think the West should consider their relations with Russia, instead of missing business opportunities across the east simply because Western Diplomats have not progressed from an us vs them mentality. In this economy, they can no longer afford this additutde.

There will always be these attitudes in the West. No one is glad that Serbia cooperates with Russia. Those (in the West) who criticize Serbia for its closeness to Russia and for our partnership with Russia, should ask themselves why they have not offered such relations to Serbia?

No, not 100 years, Ukraine has the experience of how it was to be part of the Soviet Union, dominated by central Russia, not so long ago.

And somehow funny that Serbia now is trying to become a Russian vassal state, after YU sucessfully managed for decades to stay block free and outside of the influence area of the Warsaw pact.

West >>> don't worry, it's only 3 more years and Nikolić is gone forever. As for Dačić he is the most pro-western member of the government don't worry about it. He is pro-Nato to the bone.
I recommend that SNS get another person to run for president next time, a man who is not "Russian", there are many competent SNS members.
Nikolić please avoid the embarrassment and leave politics as soon as your term in office expires. Maybe go have a tour of Russia and come back in 2020?

But not so quickly for Serbia with the current government.

Serbia is only one country away from a union with the East. Who will give first? Romania or Hungary? History has shown Romania to be the weakest link. That will cut Europe in Russia's and China's favour with Turkey and Albania on the wrong side. Oh well ;)

Russians and Ukranians are the same people like Serbians and Montenegrins. Good day my friends.

Good luck to anyone choosing the misery of the East. I noticed that B92 didn't have a story on the protests in Ukraine over the weekend: over 100,000 taking to the streets in protest of Yanukovich canceling the SAA, and only about 10,000 rallying in support. To align with Russia and her dictator Putin is to step into a Tardis taking your country back 100 years in time. Just think Greenpeace, Pussy Riot, the recent anti-gay legislation...ugly stuff.
