Decision to exempt Vukovar from bilingualism reversed

The Croatian Ministry of Justice has halted the implementation of the recently changed statute of Vukovar, that declared it "a place of special reverence."

True, but not only that. Even more absurd is that a town assembly can make a decision that obviously is against a general state-level law? What kind of country is that?

You Serbs are really something. 500,000 or more Chinese people live in Toronto so should Toronto be including a city sign with its name in Chinese?
(Toronto Croatia, 23 November 2013 16:46)

Well if Canada had a law that included city signs to be in both English or Chinese then yes. You are aware that this is an EU requirement? You already have signs in Italian and Croat in Istria.
Don’t they have signs in French and English in Canada????? So according to your logic there should be no signs in French because the French speaking Canadians are a minority.
Yes Serbs are something because they are not savages like Croats.

"If Croatia wants to be a part of the European Union, it will have to learn to behave like an EU member. EU states guarantee protection of ethnic minorities. That's something Croats should have thought about thoroughly before joining the EU. Unfortunately for them, they will now be politically and legally forced to protect the ethnic Serb minority in Croatia."

"Milosevic didn't need to stir up nationalism, Franjo did the job that well leading into their referendum that Serbs saw no other option."
(Miso, 22 November 2013 23:29)

No other option but what? To create the 'Serbian Republic of Krajina' and killing some 100s and expelling some 100.000s Croats who were living there?
That's the truth, unfortunately.

"Vukovar Mayor Željko Sabo commented by saying the decision was expected"

Why do Croats and Serbs consistently misspell Hungarian family names?
The correct spelling is "Szabó", not "Sabo"
And "Valkóvár", not "Vukovar".

Perfect example of why the Serbian population in HR rebelled against Tudjman in 1991. Milosevic didn't need to stir up nationalism, Franjo did the job that well leading into their referendum that Serbs saw no other option. That is the simple truth. Croats didn't want Serbs in the new HR, Franjo was the man to do it. The rest is history

Maybe they should break away and form their own country? They could divide the whole country into red and white squares, though what to do with the incomplete squares? Brussels will know what to do.

I don't think there is a lower limit on balkanization (hungarian MEP demands autonomy for Vojvodina, Bulgarian MEPs demand 'rights' for Bulgarian minority, same for the Romanian MEP - a lot of stupid amendments tabled to recent EP bill on Serbia's upcoming SAA).
