Peggy dear, why should I have to say that Serbs are not "blood thirsty savages"? I've never said that they are. When have I condemned Serbia? No, I don't get what you're saying. I just disagree with Serbia on some political issues. I disagree with the UK on some political issues too, that doesn't mean I hate the UK or all British people.

I've never told you to stay away from this. I've never told you to do anything.

I'm not here to make friends. That is why I talk about politics, religion & money. If you don't like these subjects, then don't read the news.

Peggy dear, nothing what happens in the Balkans concerns you personally. Regardless of what happens, your life in Australia will be exactly the same. Just because you're partially an ethnic Serb doesn't mean it somehow affects your day-to-day life.

I don't particularly talk about politics with any of my mates, ethnicity has nothing to do with it. I don't have any Albanian mates either. My Serb mates used to be on the same football team as me when I lived in Wales, we used to talk about football. I go on a lot of cruises & I've met a lot of Serbs who work on cruise ships, they're very friendly kind people; however I wouldn't consider talking about politics with a cruise ship employee; it wouldn't be appropriate for either party.

"In Australia we make friends with many different nationalities just like in the UK" What's that got to do with the price of cheese?

Mick

Peggy if you want to make friends in life, then you don't talk about Politics, Religion or Money because you'll just fall out with people; I apply this principle.

==========================================
Ian, writing how you would like to go to Serbia is not what I had in mind. Saying somehting like Serbs are not the blood thirsty savages as my fellow Albanian friends say, not condemning Serbia at every opportunity is being positive towards Serbia. Do you get what I am saying?
Maybe you should take your own adivce and not talk about politics, religion or money, especially when the politics descussed here don't concern you personally. You tell me to stay away from this and then you are here day after day discussing the very thing you tell me not to do in order to have friends.

This tells me that you don't discuss politics or religion with any Serbs you may come across. Do you or don't you? Do you wish to make and keep friends or are you happy enough with Albanian friends because I would bet that Serbs would not appreciate your views.

I can see that you are completely twofaced. One face for Serbs who come your way and another (true one) for the Albanians and Croats.

One last thing. I do have friends and we do discuss politics but guess what, they actually share my views and they are not Serbs. In Australia we make friends with many different nationalities just like in the UK.

Your many contributions (about Serbia and your 'personal issues') in the following blog reveal so much about you. smile.

Just one small example about Serbia you write...

"Doot commented...

Your 'personal issue' comments (the stranger.com) Danilo/Doot ... fool.

I see you've completely failed to understand my point.

You're people aren't as primitive as you imagine them to be, at least not all of them :)

Peggy

pre 10 godina

I have taken your post and added some to make it more believable and answered a couple of questions.

I don't hide my thoughts too much from my friends in Serbia.Only the part where I hate Serbia and admit to it. Am I ostracized? No, Peggy. Most of my friends here are Serbs and most of them agree with me on general matters. General matters. What are they? I don't include my hatred for Serbia as a general matter nor do I include my thoughts about how Serbs are genocidal maniacs. Again. This might surprise you, but Serbs don't all think the same way. It's not a brain disorder; it's not a cult. It's also not in some church basement in Australia.
-----------------------------
When have you been to a church basement in Australia? What do you about that and what makes you think Serbs here congregate in such things?
----------

You, however, seem to think you know what "Serbs" (all of them? lol) would think if they REALLY knew what Ian thought. Again. Maybe he'd get lynched at your Serbian club in Australia. Thankfully, there's a touch more pluralism in Belgrade :)
------------------
I never said that he would get lynched. That's you putting words in my mouth but they certainly would tell him to take a hike.

Well I think I have corrected enough errors in your post.

Danilo

pre 10 godina

Oh, Roger, Are you going to make that same post every time you log on now? sigh.

You're not paying attention. Since when did I claim to speak Serbs?? Only hobby-Serbs have this habit :) I was just pointing out where Peggy was being silly - saying that Ian would get lynched or something if people in Serbia knew what he REALLY thinks (as though what he thinks is in any way outrageous).

Roger7

Ah Danilo aka Doot, as you state in your blog, "English-speaking foreigner living in Serbia, writing anonymously about everything that makes Belgrade, Serbia the worst place on earth."

Danilo the cowboy in the wild-east.

Danilo

pre 10 godina

Heh... You make it sound like being Serbian forces you to think a certain way, like it's a neurological disorder or maybe some kind of cult, or that people's thoughts are somehow tied to their biology. Is a Serbian brain different from a non Serbian brain? Very strange (and revealing) word-choice.

What happens is obvious - you're not in Serbia. Not being in Serbia, the issues are abstract to you. You care about them in an abstract way and think about them in ways that are not in any way connected to your day to day life. So, diaspora Serbs tend to be more concerned with things like Kosovo, which has no bearing whatsoever in most Serb-Serbs' life, except for it being an open issue dragging the country down.

As is pretty clear from posters on this site, and also my own encounters with people who consider themselves Serbs yet, like you, have maybe spent just a few weeks there, that diaspora Serbs tend to exhibit very black/white thinking about how Serbs do and should think - as though they are some sort of unified, uniform block that thinks in the same way.

Good example of this is one that you provided yourself. You asked Ian if his friends know what he really thinks and if they did they wouldn't give him the time of day. LOL. Peggy.... your people really aren't that simplistic and childish.

I agree, but I don't see these things happen. They can choose between 'politicians' which are either corrupt thugs, dubious 'businessmen', mafia heads, people listed on older CIA terrorist lists, local clan leaders, former KLA 'freedom fighters' and extreme nationalists who advocate a greater Albania. Unfortunately, there are no political parties who are free from these persons in Kosovo.

You can say the same thing about Serbia with The likes of Dacic, Nikolic, Vulin, Kostunica etc. etc. The sad thing is that Serbia has been a state for so many decades and the level and type of politicians are as you say are either corrupt thugs, dubious 'businessmen', mafia heads, people serving sentences on crimes against humanity sentenced by international tribunals, local clan leaders (Zemun), former wormongers and extreme nationalists who advocate a greater Serbia. Well, its Serbs who consider it the clearest act of statehood. Which is weird, because that way Serbs are saying that Serbia was not a state until 1945. That's really unpatriotic.

(icj1, 23 November 2013 00:44)

Today a seat in the UN is generally seen as the most basic element of statehood as it entitles you to the same rights (theoretically) as every other country in the organization which makes up the entire world. Switzerland for a while didn't want to join the UN and really didn't need to. But I think its safe to say that was because they didn't want to but knew they could meanwhile the regime in Pristina wants too but knows it can't.

icj1

pre 10 godina

As far as the UN goes, this is an easy one that even raging Serbophobe Ian could explain. Russia & China hold veto power at the UN and would never allow the regime in Pristina to have a seat as a member.
(Ari Gold, 22 November 2013 12:02)

Ah, OK, thanks for clarifying; so it's Russia or China. It's not Serbia, despite its dreams of grandeur, of being the master of the universe and of having the power to be able to determine which countries are allowed to become UN members.
----------

And UN membership is considered the clearest act of statehood. Without it, you are simply not a state.

Well, its Serbs who consider it the clearest act of statehood. Which is weird, because that way Serbs are saying that Serbia was not a state until 1945. That's really unpatriotic.

On the other hand, history has shown that UN membership means nothing in regards to statehood. Ukraine was a UN member for 45 years from 1945 to 1990 but Kosovo would rather not be a UN member than having the type of "statehood" that UN member Ukraine had from 1945-1990.

It is true that Russia and PR China can veto Kosovo's full membership in the UN Security Council. However what Russian and PR China can't veto is Kosovo's membership (with full state symbols) in the UN General Assembly as an Observer Member as membership is determined by a 2/3 majority vote in the UNGA. This would clarify Kosovo's statehood under international law (and the UN would no longer consider Kosovo as being apart of Serbia, it only does by default anyway) and give Kosovo access to even more UN associated Organisations, as Kosovo is already a full member of some. Kosovo should have done this already but their politicians are incompetent, pathetic, hopeless, useless and inexperienced. Kosova's statehood has been recognized by 105 countries already. I don't think Kosova's statehood lacks recognition based on its recognitions. Serbia wants international community to stay in Kosova for their own personal save of embarrassment. Serbia would never again dare attack Kosova, or a repetition of 1999 will be even worse. Serbian government is told what to do by EU, so is Prishtina no doubt. You have failed to realize that Serbia and Kosova are being forced to cooperate. Serbia cannot do anything on its own. The puppet regime in Belgrade has already forced the Kosovo Serbs to take part in the recent separatist elections. And perhaps more scandalously, they have allowed the KLA statelet to have its own international dialling code, which will be requested by a country that has recognised its so-called independence. Therefore, UN membership is certainly on the cards because Berlin demands it. After all, whenever the quislings say something, they usually mean the opposite.

Actually, a lot was asked of Serbia in order to try and legitimize the occupation. Sadly, the Serbian government agreed to a lot of these thigns but it still doesn't take away from the fact that they had to agree themselves. Serbia allowed EULEX to come in and replace UNMIK. Serbia had a draft before the UN that was going to be passed that was still softened at the request of Western powers. It was Serbia that decided to give legitimacy to KLA terrorists by meeting them in an official capacity.

Hahahaha.
(Albanian, 22 November 2013 11:00)

Actually, a lot was asked of Serbia in order to try and legitimize the occupation. Sadly, the Serbian government agreed to a lot of these thigns but it still doesn't take away from the fact that they had to agree themselves. Serbia allowed EULEX to come in and replace UNMIK. Serbia had a draft before the UN that was going to be passed that was still softened at the request of Western powers. It was Serbia that decided to give legitimacy to KLA terrorists by meeting them in an official capacity.

All those things are sad indeed, but they prove that the Albanians only get as far as the Serbian officials allow them to. As far as the UN goes, this is an easy one that even raging Serbophobe Ian could explain. Russia & China hold veto power at the UN and would never allow the regime in Pristina to have a seat as a member.

And UN membership is considered the clearest act of statehood. Without it, you are simply not a state. As long as Serbia's government does not continue to bend for EU membership (which will never come anyway), you are nothing more than a occupation.

You think its plausible that Belgrade would be bombed today if it were to defend Kosovo i Metohija? You are delusional, you saw the response people in the West gave its leaders over involvement in Syria. Most people have absolutely no appetite for any sort of intervention like it or not.

Slowly the discourse is changing and so is the reality. What was possible 14 years ago is not today. What is not allowed today will be possible in 14 years.

Don't be so foolish to confuse Western strength with your own. And do not ever think the luxury you had of receiving external backing (as your people have always tried to do) is cemented. And finally, don't let Ian's lib-dem extremism fool you. Most people in the West don't know where the hell the Balkans are and do not care about Albanians. Increasingly, Ian is fringe in his own country for wanting to give away his country's independence to another capital.

@Ari Gold

They will not dare interfere in our path of joining UN. After all it is one of the agreements mr. dacic himself has signed at the Brussels agreement.

Ultan

pre 10 godina

The puppet regime in Belgrade has already forced the Kosovo Serbs to take part in the recent separatist elections. And perhaps more scandalously, they have allowed the KLA statelet to have its own international dialling code, which will be requested by a country that has recognised its so-called independence. Therefore, UN membership is certainly on the cards because Berlin demands it. After all, whenever the quislings say something, they usually mean the opposite.

Please produce one quote (if you can) from me which can be deemed as 'Anti-Serb'.

On the other hand, history has shown that UN membership means nothing in regards to statehood. Ukraine was a UN member for 45 years from 1945 to 1990 but Kosovo would rather not be a UN member than having the type of "statehood" that UN member Ukraine had from 1945-1990.

He says he will keep Kosovo out of the UN? Big deal. So what? How will that get the returnees the right to go back home?

Lets not forget that mr. Milosevic's former aide recognized the Pristina Government and forced our people in Kosovo to adhere to an unconstitutional authority in Pristina. Now suddenly he has a plan that will make things better.

The Seperatists will likely get observer status before Mr. Dacic leaves office. Dacic should concentrate on improving the lives of Serbs in Kosovo instead of just making more promises to make him look like he cares about anyone other than himself.

I don't hide my thoughts too much from my friends in Serbia. Am I ostracized? No, Peggy. Most of my friends here are Serbs and most of them agree with me on general matters. Again. This might surprise you, but Serbs don't all think the same way. It's not a brain disorder; it's not a cult. It's also not in some church basement in Australia.

You, however, seem to think you know what "Serbs" (all of them? lol) would think if they REALLY knew what Ian thought. Again. Maybe he'd get lynched at your Serbian club in Australia. Thankfully, there's a touch more pluralism in Belgrade :)

Do you think you have the monopoly on Serbs?
-----------

Nope. why would I think that? (if I understand what you mean. not sure what 'the monopoly' on Serbs mean. maybe you left out a word or something)

OMG, now I've heard it all. Did you say that with a straight face? You like Serbia and Serbs!!! You are a bigger liar than Dacic.
Show us just one positive post you have ever made here towards Serbs or Serbia. Really, just one will do.

Do the Serbs you talk to ever see what you write here? Do they know?
I am sure they don't because if they did thy would not have anything to do with you any longer.

Just one? Ok then Peggy, here you go: http://wap.b92.net/eng/news/comments.php?nav_id=67318

I just don't feel the need to worship Serbs or Serbia from a computer screen in Australia unlike you.

Do my Serb mates know I write here? Yes, in all walks of life I always introduce myself as "Ian, UK from B92" *sarcasm*

Peggy if you want to make friends in life, then you don't talk about Politics, Religion or Money because you'll just fall out with people; I apply this principle.

Yes, and more.

Like what? Like saying, "OMG, YOU'RE THIS 'DOOT' AND HERE'S ANOTHER SITE WITH 'DOOT'" in response to when the grown-ups are trying to have a conversation?

Go ahead, it's just that it's a little boring, you see?

Personally, I find this guy pretty funny, and it looks like I'm not the only one.

Prime Minister Ivica Dačić said on Thursday that Serbia will "never give its consent for Kosovo's membership in the United Nations."

Doesn't he know that no consent of Serbia is needed? procedure is as follows:

1. The UNSC has to propose a new member state (to remid you: the 5 permanent members have a veto power there
2. The UN general assembly can decide about the membership with a qualified majority.

Danilo said, "You are completely out of touch from Serbia. Have YOU spoken to many Serbs who live in Serbia?"

Ah Danilo aka Doot, as you state in your blog, "English-speaking foreigner living in Serbia, writing anonymously about everything that makes Belgrade, Serbia the worst place on earth."

YOU are the last person to speak for Serbs in Serbia. You have no objectivity. YOU hate their home.
